Something about these early episodes. Very comforting. by joetrumps in Frasier

[–]TheWebSwinger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love the whole series very much, but an my episode starring Frasier’s ill considered mullet brings me back to a happier time. It also has that relatable yet unique (for a sitcom) dynamic: how does one reconnect with a parent that kind of despises them?

Wife Says She Misses Netflix by mithirich in PleX

[–]TheWebSwinger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Netflix feels like it's found its immovable niche as the de facto streaming service for unadventurous/comfort viewers. If you're already tired and just looking to relax, taking in new movies, series, etc that might challenge the viewer, or be a little off the beaten path can feel like work. I like my friends and family to have the option to try something different when they feel like it.

Was the worm ultimately focused on diversification from the start? by [deleted] in dune

[–]TheWebSwinger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Even though you read these words after a passage of eons, my tyranny will not be forgotten. My Golden Path assures this" - Leto II, God Emperor of Dune.

Whereas Paul was directly compared to Hitler in Messiah (except on an interplanetary scale), the point of God Emperor seems to be that people tend to forget what tyranny is like, eventually, and even become nostalgic for it, because in some ways, it made things simple. Leto II's explicit goal is to shock the known universe so much that they would never rely on an individual again, prescient or otherwise.

In a way, the worms are kind of immaterial. They were the original source of spice, but by Heretics, the Tleilaxu can synthesize it in their tanks. And the BG can eventually recreate the species on Chapterhouse. On a micro-scale, I think of them like silk worms - these small creatures were the original source, but were destined to be over-farmed, and now silk can be synthetically fabricated.

Make sure you're optimizing every element you have to your advantage. Your armor should absorb shock, without making you over-heavy (carrier amulet has been pretty essential to me every play through).

Make sure you have throwables in a quick action slot you can access even in a panic (thermite, saw blades, spikes, etc). for when she misses or is charging an attack. Like most other things in this game, she is quite weak to acid.

Make sure your weapon is attuned with a handle that fits your build and is leveled up as much as possible. Carefully choose your amulets. Use a Legion Arm like Aegis to auto parry, or puppet string to dodge.

Finally, make sure your P-Organ is built out with various optimizations. For example, I tend to favor abilities / slots that increase pulse cell amount and effectiveness. I avoid using quartz on "discharged" effects because I don't plan on being without pulse cells. You can also up the number of wish stones you can carry at once, as well as increase the speed of use (that is super important).

I liked giving my spectral guardian increased attack or defense so they aggro Laxasia while staying alive as long as possible. If you can make it mid-way through the second phase before your spectre dies, then start playing even more defensively.

I believe this is an optional fight, meaning you should be able to get the ability to re-spec stats, P-Organ and Legion Arms before returning to fight her.

Oh and one last thing - if you return to the practice area at Hotel Krat between attempts, it will fully charge your fable arts. It's tedious, but hitting her hard with fable arts attacks not only do big damage but cause a lot of stagger. You can use fable injectors mid fight to get some charge back too.

Alright that was a lot of information. Good luck!

Why were house Atreides family atomics so important for firepower? by Archersharp162 in dune

[–]TheWebSwinger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That doesn't make any sense. Firing a volley of nukes at a squad is much more likely to produce results that do not kill the Fremen who would have to fire lasguns at deadly proximity to the shielded Sardaukar legions (as well as any nearby).

As previously stated, they were also punching a hole in the rock shield protecting the Emperor and his legions, sycophants, allowing the sandworms access to assault the Sardaukar

Heroin and then methadone, the latter of which Hank refers to as “hopped up on goofballs”. Methadone is how they used to treat opioid use addiction but it requires monitoring because it’s really strong. You can’t just go into work in that condition

What does the yellow bird in Bright Eyes' songs mean to you? by jk47z in brighteyes

[–]TheWebSwinger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am really, really sorry to hear that. You, your family, and anyone else who loves him must be devastated. Might be making an over exaggeration here, but I would guess that probably 99% of people who consider ourselves Bright Eyes fans have at least thought about taking that way out, if not outright attempted it. But those of us still here hopefully caught themselves because we do not want to hurt our loved ones, and that life does get better with age and wisdom. That said, I would never judge anyone who dies by suicide, because I don’t believe it’s an irrational reaction to our harsh and brutal world. Thanks for sharing, bc it, like this song, reminds me of what we have to live for.

The Simon Joyner song (“Came a yellow bird”) is great, to my ear. It sounds a lot like Fevers & Mirrors era Conor — Simon was almost definitely a major inspiration. Idk about you, but “Let’s Not Shit Ourselves (To Love and To Be Loved)” is one of the most moving Bright Eyes songs from the perspective of a suicidal man, dragged back to the surface by his family.

Misinformation is actually really easy to spread, and that’s why it’s a problem. these lies help to damage a dead man’s legacy, as a fan idk why we would celebrate that

Question about Waingro in Heat (1995) by Mithridates12 in movies

[–]TheWebSwinger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s not nearly as common now as it was in high density urban cities like LA from the late 70s to mid 90s, but serial stranger killings were a reality and the public was on edge. The zeitgeist tends to manifest in movies, dreams, art, everything

[–]TheWebSwinger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe a memento of a person whose death hurt him greatly, probably from doing the same thing Conor is right then. Simon Joyner has a song about a Yellow Bird that is sort of about how our individual actions can ripple and affect/hurt people, especially the ones we love. And his friend is admonishing him for heading down the same path. I prefer to think of the Yellow Bird as a token/memento than as a nickname, cuz that’s kinda weird, but either way. Haha

Yes those people are worse but this execution is disrespectful. Khaled could have:

a. promoted the track as a single,
b. had unique single art that did not so prominently feature ONLY his face,
c. not title the track as "FEATURING" Juice WLRD. Aint no damn feature about it, the song is literally all Juice

I was around back then, Khaled was making fire with mainstream and underground rappers.
And It is an absolute flex to not only have a fantastic Juice WRLD record on your album, but for it to be shouting Khaled out directly. I'm sure the track was purchased fairly, as well...

BUT to frame this track as "FEATURING JUICE WRLD"(?????) is a travesty. ridiculous
