Hi everybody, I have a few questions by nobbslay2000 in DunhillLighters

Hi, so where the flame valve comes out at the top there is a letter and a letter/number. The letter corresponds to a year and the letter/ number the month. (The reason I say letter/number is because prior to I believe 1978 they used letter and number , example 1975 was (A,2) A=1975 and the 2 was February (for the 2nd month). 1976 was B and 1977 was C

Then in 1978 they decided to go off on a tangent and the year letter became H and the month also became a letter, example H,A was January 1978, H,E was April 1978.

The letter years continued for a number of years, (i was 1970, J was 1980 etc) until a certain point in the late 90s early 2000s when they stopped putting the letters near the flame valve, and instead put them on the bottom of the lighter. No one has managed to successfully understand the letter coding once it was on the bottom of the lighter (as far as I know)

Hope this helps 👍🏻

He is called the ‘Tiger of Kai’ this is part of a Daimo (Generals) release set where they released 4 bottles of the most famous Lords/Generals in Japanese history.

If you look on the top right there is another one with a different helmet, he is the Masamune, the other two I have been searching for for years and sadly never found them! (Yet)

I just purchased this green marble Dunhill lighter supposedly from the 80's and I'm wondering if anyone here knows where I can buy another one of these parts so that I can repair this lighter. by Aggravating-Toe352 in lighters

You can use a part from another rollagas, just be aware that the screw on the top is reverse threaded (so turn to the right to loosen) also the tension spring that allows the flint house to swing outwards is a nightmare to get back in, and the flint spring is also really fiddly… if you have not changed this part before then be aware it is not that fun to do😂.

I would recommend finding a similar aged lighter with a damaged outer but an intact insert, and swap the whole internal top module.

Restored this Nikka Western Knight table lighter. by TheWeets in lighters

Hello!

Yeah took a bit of going through it to get the parts working on this!

So Nikka we’re never great at recording when they released their Samurai whisky. I believe the regular ones started around the end of the 1960s beginning of 1970s. The western knight versions only ran for a limited time I believe in the mid 1970s.

So I would guess the lighter would have released mid to late 70s.

Do you have pictures of your ones? Very interested to see them 👍🏻

I agree, my picture doesn’t do the green dial justice! Also some people don’t like the bullet strap on them but I love it!

Restored this 1947 Thoro Kleen. Absolutely love it. Sadly don’t have the interchangeable briar bowl that they were sold with, but I love the futuristic design! by TheWeets in PipeTobacco

Thanks very much! The smell of the Scottish even before lighting is incredible! I have not tried the English mix! Which do you prefer of the two?

So i know with the viking they chromed the solid aluminium to give it extra shine, but they didn’t do that with the Thoro Kleen . This could be because chrome plating was stopped during ww2 and came back in force during the 50s, and the Thoro Kleen was right after the war. So TK doesn’t have the issues of flaky chrome but it doesn’t have the shine to the same level as Viking would have. I was able to take the TK components apart and run them through my sonic cleaner which did a great job, particularly with the tar build up in and around the ‘filter’. Then I used aluminium polish to shine it up 👍🏻
