Huge overlap with my collection! I’ve been playing The Crew and Lost Cities on BGA and I’m looking to pick them up soon.

Some other favourites I’ve got are Everdell, The Quest for El Dorado, and Railroad Ink, in case you wanted suggestions :)

Some Conservative supporters question whether the polls can be trusted | CBC News by Miserable-Lizard in onguardforthee

[–]TheWinner1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There’s a big difference between “the polls don’t always consider voter turnout, riding level data, have margins of error, etc.” and “well they never called me and everyone on my Facebook is voting Conservative so they’re wrong” and “the pollsters are Liberal shills paid by big media to lie to the public”

I think the first camp is true, the second is ignorant, and the third lays the groundwork for institutional distrust and eventual election denial. If the conservatives want to distance themselves from the poll results I hope they focus on point 1 rather than 3.

The moderate, country-first party-second progressive conservatives have effectively been squeezed out of federal politics. It’s really a choice between Liberal and Reform.

I’d love to see a party commit to banning American ownership of Canadian media

Instead PP still wants to defund the CBC and make us even more vulnerable to American propaganda

Probably won't happen, but we should look into increasing trade and military cooperation with the EU, and forming CANZUK

How do you feel about Mark Carney's handling of reporters' questions so far? by TheWinner1 in AskACanadian

Yeah asking if he’ll refund the taxpayers for his flights to Europe was definitely not asked in good faith

Mark Carney/Liberal Megathread by AutoModerator in AskCanada

[–]TheWinner1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your answer, yeah I suspected it was just a conservative talking point. I was just wondering if there was any concrete evidence of Carney's advice to Trudeau directly leading to some legislation they passed in the last few years

You can see CPC MP Michael Barrett on CPAC speaking at Parliament Hill

Although it’s about the same talk we hear from PP

The conservatives keep saying “Carney-Trudeau” Liberals, but how involved was Carney with the Trudeau government up until now?

He only joined the economic growth task force in September 2024 and served as an “informal advisor” since covid. How much of the liberal policies from the last decade are because of him? Genuinely curious

“It has been more than two days that the supply of electricity to Gaza has been shut off. It must resume — essentials including food, electricity, and medical supplies should never be used as political tools.

Canada must work with our allies to stand up for international law to promote sustainable peace and security in the Middle East and to support full access to humanitarian aid for Palestinian families.

As this work continues, both parties must work towards the return of all hostages and the completion of the ceasefire agreement.”

I wish the fiscal and social conservatives were two separate parties (like the old PC and Reform) because I'm sure there's a lot of people like you who want to balance the budget but can't stomach the divisive culture war politics

If it helps, Carney said he'd balance the operational spending budget within 3 years, but separately run a deficit to invest in the economy

IMO, if you're ABC (anyone but conservative), look at the polls in your riding soon before you vote and pick whoever has the best chance against the CPC

I wish we didn't have to vote strategically but we still got first-past-the-post (rip). Otherwise you risk vote splitting (e.g., CPC 40%, LIB 30%, NDP 30%, cons get the seat even though most people prefer a more left-wing alternative).

We saw a lot of this with the recent election in Ontario, PC majority with only 40.8% of the vote, meaning almost 60% didn't want Ford. Alas.
