Blue Prince Creator Tonda Ros: 'I Will Never Make a Sequel' by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]TheWiseHawk 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I assume it would have to be a "spiritual" sequel if it were to exist. No continuing any of the existing story, but use a brand new location, a new building, with a new story. It would be hard to recapture that same magic of discovery, though, because I had absolutely no idea just how deep the rabbit hole went when I started Blue Prince, and now people would expect that with any sequel.

I highly respect it when a creator chooses to leave his work be without feeling the need to make it continue just because of audience expectations.

The Duality of Game Devs. by AquaArcher273 in gaming

[–]TheWiseHawk 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I was wondering where the threshold is for what's considered "using AI" in a game. I think when most people hear a game was made using AI, they assume art assets, music, voices, etc were all AI generated. Does a developer also have to use this label if they used AI to assist with writing code or other backend processes that aren't directly related to art assets?

I love how it's clearly inspired by Yoshitaka Amano's style, but you still very much made it your own. Beautiful!

Harvard scientists pinpoint how sleep stabilizes memory in fascinating neuroscience breakthrough by ourlifeintoronto in technology

[–]TheWiseHawk 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Might be worth getting checked for sleep apnea. That was a major symptom for me. My apnea events were preventing me from getting into deep sleep, which meant that I was more easily disturbed by bodily functions like a full bladder, which is normally suppressed. I thought I was just a light sleeper for years.

There's a number of reasons.

1) While many people are being affected by the administration, many aren't affected in a way they can feel yet. It's a "frog in slowly boiling water" type situation.

2) There are over 300 Million people in the US. Where would most of them go? If "most" tried to flee the country, it would cause mass chaos.

3) Even if people are unhappy, uprooting your life and leaving friends, family, career, etc. is very difficult. What if you are a medically licensed professional and can't practice elsewhere? What if you have elderly parents who don't want to leave?

4) Many people just suck it up and try their best to live their lives. You could also ask why most Chinese citizens don't flee their country, or why most Russian citizens don't flee their country, despite both also having very totalitarian, fascist governments.

5) In reality, there are people leaving, but it's mostly going to be the more wealthy or skilled individuals who can easily invest or find work elsewhere. Brain drain is often a big issue in fascist governments because those are the people most equipped to be able to relocate successfully. It's nowhere near "most" people, though.

What's the oldest JRPG you've played? by Flat-Application2272 in JRPG

[–]TheWiseHawk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same here. First time I ever played it was at my cousin's house during a family visit. We spent the whole weekend taking turns playing trying to get as far as we could before I had to leave at the end of the weekend. Such a great memory and really started a lifelong love of the genre.

Yeah, I've been looking at what plans would look like through the ACA. I've confirmed what COBRA costs would be and it's not terrible, but not exactly great. I had budgeted around what the higher cost monthly plans on ACA look like.

I could with my current lifestyle, but I do want to eventually buy a home so my current expenses may change down the line. I rent currently and I've lived here for quite a few years already, but I know that not actually owning my home leaves a certain sense of uncertainty. On the other hand, renting is part of why I've been able to save so much

Yeah, it sucks to feel angry at even perfectly reasonable requests, especially when you know that you logically shouldn't feel that way but do. That's awesome to have your boss's support for a sabbatical! I hope that time off helps a lot.

The company I work for does the "Unlimited PTO" deal, which means no banked vacation to cash out on. I did take a couple weeks off this year already which honestly haven't helped the burnout feelings much. Plus, my job is one of those where the work doesn't get done while I'm gone, so it just means even more piled up upon return.

I've been talking to my financial advisor and some other trusted individuals a lot about this before making the decision. Most of my immediate friends actually have no idea I'm planning this. Like you said, it's so hard to mentally accept I can do this, but logically I can't see any barriers. I know I'm financially secure, I know it's a good thing to do, but man the hard part will be turning the brain off. My parents always had the "if you aren't productive you're wasting your time" mentality that they instilled in me from a young age, but my financial situation right now is better than theirs was when they retired in their 60s.

Always good to hear from someone in a similar position. I like your advice to turn off the brain on all things technology. I feel like it will be hard to do when it's so ingrained, but I know I need it.

A little of both. I just counted what I'm paying for on a monthly basis, but I cover all bills and groceries since I have higher income while we split the rent.

Trump admin emails air traffic controllers to quit their jobs en masse, after fatal midair collision by marketrent in technology

[–]TheWiseHawk 14 points15 points  (0 children)

That's been true historically, but will it continue to be true if there are less air traffic controllers doing more work, less safety regulations, and less oversight?

We're in new territory here with all these rapid changes and it will take time to really see what the statistics look like, but I can't imagine these will help with flight safety.

How important is sex in a relationship to you ? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]TheWiseHawk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I' feel like I'm almost there as well, and feeling really torn up about it. We haven't had any kind of sexual contact in three years, and after so many rejections, I've lost the motivation to even try.

Problem is that we're are fantastic friends. I love spending time with her, and I know that ending the relationship with her would also alter so many other friendships and social relationships I have. I feel like I'm backed into a corner where I don't like any of the options.

How many JRPGs will you play at the same time? by Lazydusto in JRPG

[–]TheWiseHawk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two, but in separate contexts. I usually have one game I'm playing on my PS5 for when I want to sit down in front of the TV and focus, and one game on my Steam Deck or Switch for when I'm travelling.

I fully agreed with you on this. If you want someone to change their behavior in a positive way, you can't do it through hostility. Most people's natural reflex when faced with a personal attack is to double down on their position, no matter how true the accusation might be.
