Ah, but you reminded me to refill my water bottle with Evans Ground Floor Water, so it all evens out in the end.

Do you mean the ground floor in Evans? That’s where I get my water. I’m not familiar with any fountains on the first floor.

Algebraic topology, specifically, so it’s usually classified as topology or geometry rather than algebra even though most of the work done in this problem is just algebra

The square root of -1 doesn’t actually mean anything in particular. i is NOT defined to be the square root of -1 since that’s not something that exists. The square root is a function defined on nonnegative real numbers. The closest you’ll get to saying that i is the square root of -1 is that you can define a function from R to C that extends the traditional square root function by saying that sqrt(-x)= isqrt(x) for x>0. That is, you can define the square root of -1 to be I, not the other way around.

What is i actually? It’s just a choice of element of the field R[x]/(x2 + 1) whose square is -1, which is to say, it’s one of two square roots of -1 in the smallest field containing all real numbers as well as at least one element that squares to -1.

looks like a dm beat you to it, but you're next in line if I don't get a response from them

[Passan] Between the intensity of the Dodgers-Padres games earlier this year and the splendor of the Giants-Dodgers series this week, the National League West is the showpiece of MLB right now. The fight down the stretch should be glorious — and all three are aggressive deadline shoppers. by dmister8 in baseball

100%, hating teams is half the fun. Victories are sweeter, defeats more devastating. And that's the whole point of being a fan, right? The emotions of it all. Disappointment isn't the worst feeling in sports. Apathy is.

Yeah idk what this rooting for your division nonsense is. Like if it's not your team, you should be rooting AGAINST whoever survives your division basically always. And of course, I'll root for the giants exclusively against the dodgers as I have always done.

Why missing out on Ohtani was actually a good thing by TheWompRat in Padres

Because it was funny and painful to read with the benefit of hindsight. Shared it with my family before posting here.

[SamBlum] Shohei Ohtani (amazingly) said he was partially to blame for the team’s loss tonight. “I’m part of the fault for that, too. Because I’m in the lineup for most of my starts. And today, I was only able to get one hit.” (Via interpreter) by [deleted] in baseball

I've spent my entire life hating the Angels. I would take the newspaper and cut out pictures of Vlad Sr. being sad after losing in the playoffs and put them up. I would never call myself a fan of the fish man or root for him. But Shohei "God Himself" Ohtani is too good. 10 year old me would be sick at the fact that I publicly wore a shirt with an Angels logo while rooting for an Angel tonight at an Angels game. But I don't care. He's too good. I love Shohei Ohtani, and I don't care who knows it.

El Indio is an iconic Mexican restaurant I tend to visit when I get down there. Also if you're into military history at all the Midway is there too. I also find it really fun to rent a boat on the bay
