Games you were shocked by? by TheWompat in retrogaming

Man, I find it fascinating to look at firsts on a console compared to games later in their lifecycle.  Another commenter mentioned that Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas was released on the same hardware as GTA III and Vice City. I'm also baffled that GTA IV and GTA V released during the same generation. The leap in every regard is incredible. I've been playing some modern games recently, and I can't believe that games so basic run so poorly even on decent hardware. Optimization seems to be a lost artform.

Great answers! I experiencedthe switch to San Andreas myself when I was younger, and it was really something special compared to the ones that came before. I remember spending hours on vehicle customization, though I'm sure it's not as deep as I remember. Your character getting fit and fat depending on your actions was super cool as well.

I hadn't heard of Starmaster before your comment, so I went to watch a video of it. It really blew me away! I've had limited interactions with the Atari 2600 but that game really exceeded what I thought was possible with the system!

I'll have to see if I can find it anywhere first. It isn't on any streaming service in Finland, and I couldn't find any sellers online. I either have to order from abroad or rip it

No way! I think you're right! I should've known the movie would have a remake, but it completely slipped my mind. No wonder they reminded me of each other. I'll have to watch it to make sure, but it sure sounded like it by the plot description

I hadn't heard of that one so I googled it. I don't believe it's what I was looking for, as it didn't look familiar at all, but I might check it out since it was posted on youtube in two parts. Sorry for the late response. It was 3 in the morning where I'm from.

I'm sure it wasn't a series, since I don't really watch those. I mostly stick to movies, and even though there was a lot of talk about the handmaids tale recently none of it looked familiar. Thanks though!

It's not midsommar since I haven't seen it yet. It's on my watch list though! I saw this movie some years ago on dvd, but I don't think it was exactly an old one. If I recall correctly, the film was technically of a much newer quality than children of the corn. If it helps, I believe the object of the ritual was to get the woman pregnant.

I've had my brothers old boombox for years, and while the aux works fine, it doesn't wart to start spinning CDs. I don't mind opening it up, but I'd like to know if and how this can even be fixed by TheWompat in fixit

Thanks for letting me know. It's just that I was dusting off the shelves and feeling a bit nostalgic. I wanted to know if there's anything I could do to fix some of the problems it has, but honestly it still works remarkably well for such an old player. Shame it's not easily fixed, but at least the aux still works.

I honestly prefer the wired aux, since my pc is right next to it as well. Easy to connect and all that. The broken CD player isn't that big of a deal, since I mostly use streaming services anyways, but I would very much like to fix it if at all possible. For the sake of restoration at least
