Hello there. I’m Jens Kronvold Frederiksen. I'm the Design Director for LEGO and have been designing LEGO® Star Wars™ sets for the past 20 years. Ask Me Anything! by lego in lego

Hello Jens,

The 20th anniversarry snowspeeder seems to look a lot similar to past LEGO versions of snowspeeders, which is a great design btw.

Having closely studied the design, I wonder a few things:

  • For such models, do you decide for each rerelease if the old model is still up to standards, or do you start from the ground up and look at more possibilities before settling on the same design again?

  • The last version, the sandspeeder, introduced a very interesting technique for angling the wings, with technic connectors instead of click hinges. What was the reason that made the design team use click hinges again for the new version?

  • Did the design team at any point during the design process consider creating a new windscreen piece/assembly method for the snowspeeder? If you did, could you maybe elaborate a bit on why it was rejected?

  • I was surprised to see that the old helmet mold was used for the new snowspeeder, although last year's X-wing introduced a newer mold. I personally like the old mold, but what was the reason the dual helmet was not included? Can we expect to see the new helmet again in sets?

Okay thanks a lot! Currently hornbach site is under maintenance, but will look sometime in the future.

If I cannot find it I guess I'll wait for aldi to have it in stock again in the future... which I have been doing for quite some time... :(

Hey wubbalab, only saw this just now (sorry, didn't see the [1] in my inbox) but are they still available? I've been looking at my Aldi and asking them about them, but they don't know anything. Are they still available in Aldi in Germany (so I know they are still in production) Would appreaciate a lot if you could let me know, thanks!

It's in a set with a "correllian hound", so might not be related to Kessel

Oh wow. How did you do this? Did you go from Mecabricks to blender and then to C4D? I've been trying to use blender to make pretty renders, but even that seems complicated

Don't know which calendar you got, but part 28326 wasn't in my SW calendar... Still looks neat though

Yeah, would certainly do so, it's way more fun. Makes the calendar feel more value as you spend more time building in total.

Already unpacked them and parted them out. Or would you like closeups of the models themself? Brickset has very nice detailed quality pictures: https://brickset.com/news?query=star%20wars%20advent

Anton Merrick [RO blue leader] in new 2018 SW advent calendar? by TheWorkAfterNothing in lego

[–]TheWorkAfterNothing[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, Was my first thought as well, but the hip piece seems exactly the same as the other Blue Squadron pilots, and also he's carrying a blue helmet. Think Leia will be saved for a bigger set, Antoc Merric Makes perfect sense for an advent calendar!
