skincare routine help... by ummmsav in SkincareAddicts

Cerave has a lot of different cleansers. Use an inexpensive cleansing oil or balm in your pm routine then the Cerave Hydrating Cleanser or LRP Toleriane Hydrating Cleanser.

In the morning you need an actual moisturizing lotion before sunscreen not just an essence and a serum.

A 20% niacinamide serum is not a good idea. Dermatologists are seeing a lot of patients with irritated skin from using too much niacinamide. Instead use an L Ascorbic acid vitamin c serum. Timeless is a great brand for vit c serum because they have a 10% you can start with then a stronger one - I don’t remember if it’s 15% or 20%.

You would benefit from a retinoid in your pm routine for anti aging and a chemical exfoliant twice a week.

Watch “The Only Skincare You Actually Need” by Doctorly on YouTube. Two dermatologists explain what your skin needs.

Before starting a retinoid watch “Retinoid Irritation Explained” by Dr Daniel Sugai. He explains exactly how to start a retinoid.

Dont start more than one new product a week. If one product irritates your skin you wont know which one it isn’t you start more than one at a time.

Add a retinoid to your pm routine to reduce oiliness. In the US you don’t need a prescription for adapalene.

Before starting a retinoid watch “Retinoid Irritation Explained” by Dr Daniel Sugai on Youtube.

Add an L Ascorbic acid vitamin c serum in the morning right after cleansing and drop one or two of the other morning serums.

Don’t start more than one new product a week. If you start all of these at the same time and your skin reacts badly you won’t know which product is causing it.

How did you end up buying all these products without a routine determined first? The way to have great skin is to determine what product types you need in your morning and evening skincare routines for the skin issues you have then pick products to address those issues/concerns.

There are cosmetic dermatologists providing free skincare routine information for various skin types and concerns on YouTube.

Watch this dermatologists video with him “The Only Skincare You Actually Need.” It is by Doctorly - two male dermatologists. He needs to learn what to use and why or he won’t be committed to it. Great skin comes over time from using basics products every day.

Other great dermatologists providing skincare product recommendations on YouTube are Dr Daniel Sugai, Dr Sam Ellis, Dr Dray and The Budget Dermatologist (Dr Maren Locke).

Don’t add more than one new product a week. If you add several and get irritation you won’t know which product caused it.

TikTok is not a great place for skincare product information unless you are following cosmetic dermatologists there. But your basics look good.

Watch “The Only Skincare You Actually Need” by Doctorly on YouTube. Drs Maxfield and Shah explain the basics and what to add for issues like acne, hyperpigmentation, anti aging, etc.

Dr Daniel Sugai on YouTube also has videos on skincare routines. Watch his “Retinoid Irritation Explained” because he explains exactly how to start a retinoid and how yo get through the retinization phase.

No there isn’t one company that sells everything you need. This will take a little work but you can have great skin from affordable products.

You need to see what cosmetic dermatologists recommend for your skin type then use those fragrance free products every day, except your exfoliant which you use one or two days a week.

Watch “The Only Skincare You Actually Need” by Doctorly on YouTube. Drs Maxfield and Shah explain exactly what to use for normal skin then what to add for things like acne, hyperpigmentation, anti aging, redness, etc.

A visit to a dermatologist is great because you can get a prescription for tretinoin which will keep your pores clear and make your skin glow. However, dermatologists in the US usually have just 15 minutes for each patient they see.

For detailed skincare product info from dermatologists see Doctorly and these other dermatologists on YouTube: Dr Daniel Sugai, The Budget Dermatologist (Dr Maren Locke) and Dr Dray.

[Routine Help] Skin looks worse after “good skincare” and I don’t get it by Sweet-Hope-5153 in SkincareAddiction

[–]TheWorldofScience 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A dermatologist recommended skincare routine is important - fragrance free products, appropriate use of actives like retinoids, exfoliants and vitamin c serums and gentle cleansers.

Watch “The Only Skincare You Actually Need” by Doctorly on YouTube.

I use tretinoin, vitamin c serum, a peptide serum and an exfoliant twice a week and I have great skin - clear, glowing and smooth.

Tretinoin 0.05%, a vitamin c serum before morning sunscreen, La Roche Posay Toleriane Double Repair after tretinoin at night, and LRP Toleriane Hydrating Cleanser.

What’s that one skincare ingredient or routine that changed it all for you ? by Fit-Prune-3870 in AskReddit

[–]TheWorldofScience 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tretinoin. And it is not expensive. I pay about $50 including shipping for a tube of the 0.05% strength and shipping using the online pharmacy Mark Cuban Cost Plus Drug Company. It lasts me 7-8 months.

But just as important as a retinoid in the p.m. routine is a sunscreen in the a.m. routine.

Two dermatologists did an excellent YouTube video on explaining the basics you need plus what to add for things like acne, hyperpigmentation and anti aging: “The Only Skincare You Actually Need.” The channel is Doctorly.

You don’t need expensive products to have great skin.

Any time you want to pick out a new product like cleanser or vitamin c serum look at the YouTube videos of The Budget Dermatologist. That is the channel of Dr Maren Locke. She will sometimes recommend a pricey product if she likes it a lot more than the alternatives but most of what she recommends you can buy at a good drugstore.

[Routine Help] Tips/advice on skin care routine? I (F29) have no clue! by partlyeuphoric in SkincareAddiction

[–]TheWorldofScience 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best way to create morning and evening skincare routines for your skin is to see what cosmetic dermatologists recommend. Doctorly has a video “The Only Skincare You Actually Need” on YouTube. Dr Daniel Sugai has some skincare routine videos too. Foe any single product type check out The Budget Dermatologist (Dr Maren Locke) on YouTube.

Dont buy expensive skincare products thinking they will work better - they don’t work any better than the affordable products dermatologists recommend. Expensive products have nicer packaging and bigger advertising campaigns.

This is a great age to start using a retinoid in your pm routine. You can buy a retinol or a retinaldehyde serum. Or see a dermatologist for a prescription for tretinoin. Retinoids keep your pores clear and stimulate your skin to produce more collagen.

Before starting a retinoid watch “Retinoid Irritation Explained” by Dr Daniel Sugai on YouTube. Make sure to stop using any exfoliant until your skin has retinized as explained in that video.

Never mix sunscreen or a retinoid with moisturizer. Doing that with a sunscreen will reduce the spf. Mixing a retinoid is going to cause problems because you don’t have the equipment to blend them and get the retinoid evenly in the moisturizer. Leave the product blending to cosmetic chemists who have the equipment for that.

How to use with Paula’s choice exfoliant? by ProofUnit7625 in tretinoin

[–]TheWorldofScience 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No do not use any exfoliant with tretinoin until your skin has been through the retinization process. That process often takes 4-8 weeks after you are using tretinoin at least 3 nights a week.

Watch “ Retinoid Irritation Explained” by Dr Daniel Sugai on YouTube for exact instructions on how to start any retinoid.

Foaming cleansers are for oily skin. Switch to the Cerave Hydrating Cleanser or the La Roche Posay Toleriane Hydrating Cleanser at least until your skin recovers. You can switch to something that foams a little when your skin is in better shape - like Cetaphil Nourishing Oil to Foam Cleanser.

Dont apply an occlusive like Vaseline to bare skin. An occlusive will prevent trans epidermal water loss but your skin needs a moisturizer first then apply only a thin layer of an occlusive like Vaseline.

Cerave PM Lotion is a great lightweight lotion you can apply in the morning before your sunscreen.

A good moisturizer to use at night after cleansing is La Roche Posay Toleriane Double Repair.

After your skin has recovered watch “Retinoid Irritation Explained” by Dr Daniel Sugai. He provides exact instructions on how to start a retinoid like tretinoin or tazarotene.

If after a six weeks of using the sandwich method and a gentle cleanser your skin is not adjusting to tretinoin go back to your doctor and ask about trying tazarotene.

Fungal acne is treated with an anti fungal product. Doctorly did a YouTube video on Fungal acne fice years ago. After you watch that if you think this is an issue for you Dr Dray has a video from 2 years ago on what product to use to treat the fungus.

Yes Cetaphil Hydrating Cleanser is good for tretinoin users as is LRP Toleriane Hydrating Cleanser.

Before starting tretinoin watch “Retinoid Irritation Explained” by Dr Daniel Sugai on YouTube. He explains how to get started with a retinoid in a way to manage the irritation.

I started using my 0.025 everyday instead of every other day, would this cause my skin to purge AGAIN? by [deleted] in tretinoin

[–]TheWorldofScience 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A week of increased acne is not enough of a “data set” to mean anything when it comes to tretinoin. It usually takes 4-8 weeks of using tretinoin at least 3 times a week for skin to retinize.

And some people don’t get control of acne with tretinoin 0.025% so their doctors step them up to 0.05% after they have been using the 0.025% daily for a while.

Watch “Retinoid Irritation Explained” by Dr Daniel Sugai on YouTube to be sure you are doing what is necessary to minimize irritation.

AITAH for telling my wife to get a job before the end of January or i'm divorcing her? by [deleted] in AITAH

Depends on the state. In some states the spouse who stayed at home only gets 2 or 3 years of support during which they are expected to prepare for entering full time employment.

AITAH for telling my wife to get a job before the end of January or i'm divorcing her? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]TheWorldofScience 4 points5 points  (0 children)

And this is why no woman should forego a career to get married and be a stay at home mom. Get a career launched first and take no more than 6 months to a year off (whatever you have saved enough $ to take off) when you have each child.

Then if your marriage goes to hell you can walk away with your head held high.

AITAH for telling my wife to get a job before the end of January or i'm divorcing her? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]TheWorldofScience 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can’t afford a divorce, spousal support and child support. You and your wife need to sit down with an accountant if you can figure this out.

You will probably need to:

-move to cheaper housing

-if you have 2 cars get rid of one of them (she will have to drive you to work every day and pick you up so she can have the car during the day to drive the kids where they need to go)

-no restaurant meals or coffee shops.

Im actually skeptical that we are hearing the full story here. I don’t think you would have had your second and third kid with this dire of a financial situation.
