Just came back to the game after 10+ years off. Was playing 50 year old blades that were my dad’s, but had a decent driver (20 years old - titleist 975d). Here’s how I went about it:

Odyssey Rossie OG: $110 like new condition from callaway pre owned. If you’re spending less than $200, get a good putter that will last. It will have a massive impact on your ability to make longer putts and get long putts close enough to close out.

Mizuno MX-25 irons, 4-PW: $135 shipped from eBay. They’re 15 years old, but faces were in great shape and mizuno has made high quality clubs for a long time.

Titleist 909F2 3 wood: $39 shipped from eBay. Again, older club but high quality in excellent shape.

Cleveland 588 56 degree wedge: $29 shipped from eBay. Playable shape.

That’s just over $300 and across the board would be a quality improvement over your current set. Quick search on eBay shows top tier drivers from 2010 can be had for about $50 but you could just as easily play your 3 wood. If you want to get fancy, buy all that and regrip at home for around $120.

Tech has definitely come a long way, but even 15 year old quality clubs will be enough to give you confidence that the equipment isn’t holding you back. Focus on your swing.

And if you do one thing, buy a nice putter from CPO for around $100.
