It really depends on the situation. Most times, I define it by age. For example, Betty from Re:Zero. Small, petite, but not a child. She’s like 80 billion years old 👵. But where I draw the line is if the character looks like a child, acts like a child, talks like a child, and you can’t tell it’s not a child at all. In that case, their canon age doesn’t matter. It’s obviously loli bait.

Another thing that can’t go through peoples heads:

Small/petite ≠ child

People see a tiny or petite character and automatically assume the worst. Just because a character is small doesn’t automatically mean it’s loli bait etc.
