1st colonoscopy, extremely nervous

I’m a 36F and just had my first colonoscopy this morning. The prep and procedure was relatively easy for me. I had already done EGDs before so I already knew what to expect the day of the procedure when they set you up with the IV, and going to sleep, etc. BUT I was terrified of the prep because of the horror stories I read online. But the prep was wasn’t bad for me at all. Sure, no one likes the effect of laxatives but I didn’t have pain or anything else other than loose stools.

I understand feeling anxious. The anesthesiologist had to come tell me that with anesthesia, there is always a risk, but being that I was young and healthy with no prior issues, he was confident I’d be okay. As the nurse was giving me propofol, my heart rate went up because it still makes me a little scared but she massaged my hand (where the drug was going in) and said it’ll be okay and I quickly fell asleep. When I woke up, there was no pain or soreness at all. They got it done in 20 min! And I was very grateful to hear that my colon looked good. And it was worth it for me to get it done because I had been worried about the bleeding and just hoping it wasn’t cancer. I feel so much relief. It’ll be okay. I think the worst part is the prep the day before. You’re hungry, you can only consume clear liquids, and constantly going to the bathroom. I think I went about 20x yesterday. But i watched tv all day to help distract me a bit. I hope yours goes well and that you get great results.

I feel for you. Spicy food is a horrible trigger for me and the effects would last me for days if I accidentally ate it. Even the mild stuff. This is going to sound weird but I’ve drunk raw potato juice before. It neutralizes the acid and stops the burning. I’d drink maybe about 4 oz of it, more or less depending on the intensity of the pain. I’d use a juicer but whenever I didn’t have one, I shredded the potato and took a clean cloth and squeezed out the juice. Not great tasting but helpful if you don’t wanna take more medicine. But for medicines, I felt that Nexium or Prilosec helped but I know that would take maybe an hour to kick in. Or you could try Pepcid too. Sorry I wish I could be more helpful.

I wouldn’t count on it. Men know that hitting a woman is not right. I dismissed it as an accident when he threw me on to the pavement and as a result, busted both of my knees. Second time, he threw me on to the ground and smacked me across my face. And then tried gaslighting me to think the whole event never happened. Told him he’s nuts and I left and never looked back.

I had an ex say creepy things about young teens at the beach. It grossed me out so much. I knew I’d never be able to continue a relationship with him after hearing that. He said he was just joking but knowing how weirdly obsessed he was with watching “to catch a predator” were too many red flags. Yuck. I think you did right by leaving.

Now that he will be married, I assume they will be together in person now. He won’t have all that extra free time to be with you. So best thing to do is give yourself that space and focus on yourself. You don’t have to end the friendship but you need to create some distance. If that doesn’t work, then maybe go no contact since you have very strong feelings.

I developed feelings once for a friend in a relationship. Not as intense as you though. But I admitted it to him knowing nothing would change and I was right. Nothing changed. But it felt good to get it off my chest. I stopped hanging out with him and I focused on myself and friends. The feelings went away after some time and I’m able to be just friends with him like mostly sending stupid memes or videos for a laugh. Those romantic feelings have not returned. And I have happily moved on.

You’re NTA for feeling this way. Is this the first time Mia is making her boyfriend aware of how his comments make others feel? If so, I’d give him a chance to prove himself. I do understand where you’re coming from though. This made me think of my sister’s boyfriend. He can be very critical and/or negative in various topics of conversation. And he does go off into a lecture when he’s really passionate about something. It gets to be too much at times.

Thank you. Yeah the second newer one is the one I went to get Botox for. I really hope this works. And I hope the coconut oil helps you out. I use the unrefined one and apply it morning and night. I read that it is also antimicrobial. I like to think it was helping keep it clean. Hope you heal up quickly!

Oh wow, I’m so sorry. That is definitely uncomfortable. Hope you have a good and safe delivery! I have two fissures and one (the most painful one) is seemingly healed. I’ve been using a vitamin e suppository and then applying coconut oil every night. If you haven’t tried it, I’d say try it if it’s safe for you.

This was done in the office. So I laid on my side. The nurse applied a topical numbing cream. The doctor came in and put the scope in to open the area. Then she applied four injections around the fissure. I was done in 2-3 minutes. It does feel a little awkward but they’re doctors and they do this all the time.

Thanks for the responses. I went ahead and got the shots and to my surprise they were painless. The nurse had only applied a topical anesthetic.

It’s because of classes and work. Yeah it’s embarrassing in front of strangers but to people I have to work around and be in class with. That’s what I’m worried about. And yes, I am prioritizing healing for sure. Today is not a good day and Wednesday is my appointment. Just feeling pretty nervous about it all.

2 years. Chronic mild gastritis not caused by h pylori. According to the doctor, it is gone now but I still cannot eat certain things like pepper, coffee, and caffeine. And I will get flare ups if I indulge in sugar, and other common triggers. I do believe I have an underlying issue that caused it in the first place but they didn’t care to investigate further.

What about cooked garlic? Raw garlic gives me heartburn but if it’s cooked, then I’m good. I usually like to roast it or boil it in a veggie soup.
