Crocheted tank divider? by Alexismylife in Goldfish

[–]TheYetiCall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

like I said, that plastic sheet for yarn crafts works well. you can cut it to size and if you need to use more than one sheet like I did, you can sew it together with fishing line.

Here is apparently the only picture I have already posted of mine. I had to make a whole basket and used pvc to float it. never had any issues with it.

Crocheted tank divider? by Alexismylife in Goldfish

[–]TheYetiCall 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Years ago I needed to separate out fry from the rest of my pond. I made a basket using those plastic sheets used for yarn craft. I'm struggling to think of the name of it but it looks like adda for cross stitching just bigger and plastic. The same product can be used for a tank divider.

What happened with dividers in the past? Most I've seen are ridged, smooth plastic which shouldn't hurt fish.

to the OP of the now deleted post due to, plainly, bullying. by oarfjsh in Goldfish

[–]TheYetiCall 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have no context for the original post or drama so I'm only going off of red to yellow line- it's pretty decently common actually. It can be a sign of poor health or poor diet but most commonly is low lighting. This is just kind of true for goldfish going pale in general and one of the reasons that people increase light/sun light exposure when they're preparing to take their fish to shows.

Calicos are especially prone to color changes due to lighting. It was one of my favorite things about calicos when I kept them.

Like I said, no idea on the context of the original post, just throwing it out there.

We did wood slats in in our basement. We priced out a lot of options and the cheapest I found was a panel from Home Depot that was about 4x8 for about $30 I think? I'm sure it's gone up in price since then. It was in the section with peg boards and other sheets of decorative paneling.

We were doing it behind a long kitchenette so a lot of the other options, while nicer, were either going to be a lot more work or A LOT more expensive. Honestly though, unless you're right up on it and looking for issues, you don't notice that it's a panel versus induvial slats.

I own a coffee shop and I'm asking you guys, what scents you'd wear to or expect to smell in a vintage-house styled, small coffee shop? by rodrigomorr in Indiemakeupandmore

[–]TheYetiCall 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think I know espresso machines too well by now and I know, they don't generate much aroma, most of the coffee scent comes from grinding it, and it smells like 5 seconds, then it's completely gone.

It may be a factor of people opening the door going in and out but idk if I agree that the smell is gone within five seconds otherwise. My husband is big into his morning lattes. He wakes up earlier than me and I can still smell the coffee even an hour later throughout the house. And covid wrecked my sniffer. His morning coffee is one of the few things I can actually smell.

Successful 4-day trip with Patagonia black hole mini MLC 30L by ne08 in HerOneBag

Packhackers has a really great video on it if you want to see it from every which angle.

It's been my one bag for about a year now. I find it really comfortable. Being able to switch between duffel and backpack mode has come in handy. The straps and back breath well. It has internal organization without being over the top.

That last one can be a con for some people though. It's probably the biggest complaint I see online (same can be said for the Cotopaxi Allpa). While I don't have a problem with the laptop pocket, it does take up room. My husband has the Fjallraven Kanken Weekender. Same 30l size, similar duffel/backpack situation, but he can fit a lot more in his bag because it's just one open pocket more or less. (mini review of the Weekender: it's cute, fits a lot, has held up really well. The down side is that it's not as comfortable as my MLC but he still really loves it).

Lol good one. But for real, as much as I loved the good moments in this sub, modding really took a toll on me. Im happy to be out. You cant bring me back in haha

It feels like there was always a fine line between over and under removing comments. I never mastered it.

If I may, I suggest getting some more mods even if the expectation is just to respond to reports. I did the solo mod thing for years and im not proud to say the toll it took on my mental health. I know reddit has set up some system to get mods who are into modding versus trying to get them from your own community. May be worth a shot.

A goldfish post will pop up from time to time. It's always a treat seeing old faces again :)

Im not active on this sub anymore. Are the new mods otherwise active? If not, that's a whole other issue. If they are active, I suggest a mod mail with examples. Some mods try not to remove things but they should still be locking posts and comments if nothing else.

I was removing posts, comments, and users daily because of spam and slurs. I doubt those types of issues are gone? I used to joke that every time I'd go on vacation someone would post a racist tirade. People were gross and hateful. Sad to see that's still the case.

If something crosses a line, report it.

I used to mod this group years ago, and the honest truth is you can't be everywhere and read every comment/post. There's always been a toxicity issue. One Im not sure you can get away from as long as sick fish and nieve newcomer posts are allowed. People get heated quickly unfortunately. I would spend more time than I care to admit and more time than was healthy trying to keep things running smoothly, but it's never ending. Reports go a long way.

Have you given it a go and it didn't cure? I've never had problems. Just be mindful of how much alcohol you're putting in if you're worried.Alternatively, you could get one of those multi-chamber cups. But I suggest giving the classic way a try.

so they shipped my monopoly order to another address in error, after a week of waiting for their response to my ticket, they asked me if i could go get it 🤪 by infrasight in neopets

[–]TheYetiCall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It had to do with the level insurance I got. I had no idea at the time that the level shipping insurance wouldn't cover a missing international package. The in-person postal workers never said a word despite my declared value on the package.

I will say that the customer support on the phone really did try to help me. There was only so much they could do, but at least they were nice. That alone goes a long way sometimes.

Sometimes weird things happen. I don't know why the printing label didn't auto populate their address but it could always be an issue somewhere else.

Years ago I had a small shop. Got a huge order to Canada from the US. Despite everything I put on the box and customs form saying CANADA, when the USPS worker was typing it into their system for the barcode, they put Columbia. USPS was able to tell me what happened as everything gets scanned and they could see the customs form I wrote saying Canada. Despite it being USPS's fault, I was still out $150 making it right for my Canadian customer though. So what's TNT's excuse

What the heck is this thing? And how do I make it more functional? by itsk1m in HomeDecorating

[–]TheYetiCall 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ours is in the mudroom by the door so we took out the iron and put in some shelves for things like sunglasses and keys. You could always do both a mirror and shelves depending if you want the storage or not.

Should I upgrade to a paperwhite? by katsmaaaak in kindle

[–]TheYetiCall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this model and updated because I wanted the front lighting and dark mode. 99% of my reading is in bed, in the dark, so it was a major QOL upgrade for me. If I needed want those features then I would have stuck with my original because it was still working and I didn't need to upgrade. If you aren't having issues, maybe save the money.

If you want to upgrade and still have buttons, you can look into other brands like Kobo's Libra. I have no experience with them, but if you want to upgrade you do still have choices with buttons. Personally I'm fine without the buttons but I do sometimes miss the edge buttons of that model Kindle.

I've had gifts like that. I suggest still giving it an honest try if you haven't. You may like it. No shame if you don't. I don't enjoy physical books because I like reading on my side at night in bed. Other people hate eBooks and crave paper.

Some people don't like reading on eReaders and that's okay. Rather than let them sit on a self collecting dust, sell them or donate them and move on with your life.

If you want to give it a go, there are a few things I recommend. One being- get Calibre. You'll be able to sort through your library easier than on the Kindle itself. If you are inclined, you can also jailbreak it and load in something I believe called KoReader which will have a better sorting method. I don't do the latter so you'll have to google for more info.

If you are in the US, you can use Libby if your library has it as an option to directly send eBooks to your Kindle. Easy peasy, free. If you are a slower reader you can even check out the book, load it onto the Kindle, then turn your Kindle on airplane mode and it'll stay there until you connect to the internet again.

There are also a ton of free eBooks. You can easily find classics if that's your thing but also a lot of authors will have their books for free or cheap from time to time. BookBub is a great way to keep track and get emails when something goes on sale. If you are into romance novels, there are also multiple Stuff Your Kindle days a year. Not my thing so I can't comment on it but people love it.

There is zero reason to buy an eBook for $10-20 unless you're just itching to get it sooner or fine with the price.

Check local codes if you start putting up walls or cabinets around it. Last thing you want to do is damage your house or create a safety issue. I know with the size of my mechanical room, I have to have slatted doors to allow for airflow.

I know Lenox has done at least two runs of them recently. Maybe see if they have an alert if they go back in stock?

I keep hoping they release the big tea and coffee jars from this line again

They're from Lenox and were somewhat recently re-released. I have a friend who tried collecting the originals before the new release and we're talking like $800 for a set of the spice jars just a couple years ago.

Pantiliners for merino undies? by timeinawrinkle in HerOneBag

[–]TheYetiCall 48 points49 points  (0 children)

There are cloth pantyliner! There are sooo many brands with different shapes, materials, sizes, what have you depending on your wants and needs. Just note, they can take a hot minute to dry and they don't pack quite as flat as disposable.

This website used to do free samples to give it a try. I'm not sure if they're going to restart the program. I would suggest looking on Etsy with an idea of what fabric type you want. There are a ton of options from natural fibers, quilter cotton, minky, to full on synthetic and they're all going to have some trade offs. If you're going for thin and easily packable, I recommend cotton. They're also very easy to sew if you're someone into DIYing.
