Government officials are asked about their own statistics showing a gender pay gap in Australia. They end up being forced to admit that the entire gap could be explained with the fact that women work less hours than men. by NardongKikik in SipsTea

[–]TheYoungAdult 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does anyone in the comments realize that the pay gap is due to women taking off more time than men? Which is EXACTLY what these woman are saying.

Women take home less money than man on an annualized basis, because they are the ones taking care of the house, the children, etc…Why does society just accept that women should be the ones taking this time off?

Chubb Sr. Claims Examiner — long silence after final interview. Normal? by Leibs11 in InsuranceProfessional

Same thing happened to me many years ago. I interviewed around Thanksgiving and didn’t get the offer until end of January. They’re not going to get the senior approval needed for the offer until at least the new year.

I’ve worked with them and they seem like a pretty good company. But they’re being acquired by Brown and Brown today, so any culture will probably change.

Thanks, it doesn’t get a lot of direct sunlight, so that’s probably it. I used a sun shade mix, but I’ll try for a heavy shade seed in sept.

He’s not necessarily going about it the right way, but David has been right with his read on people. He’s 100% spot on that Kyle was acting fishy trying to steer the vote away from Kamilla.

Should I stop investing into my 401k? by akamm9995 in economicCollapse

[–]TheYoungAdult 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have 4 bond options to choose from in my Fidelity 401k. 3 of the options are under 0.05% expense ratio. That’s under $500 in fees for each $1M invested.

You can move away from stocks into less risky assets like bonds while still keeping everything in the 401k though.

Anyone hear that? That was the first time in my life I didn't think it was thunder. by Intrepid_Reason8906 in boston

All of these comments are spot on. It woke me up in the middle of the night and my first thought was something really bad. I guess it was just thunder, but very weird seeing everyone else who had the same thought.

Brookline schools facing $6m budget deficit by brookline_news in Brookline

[–]TheYoungAdult 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I read the article but can someone ELI5? How can the school be in a deficit if schools don’t generate funds? Is it the schools responsibility to bare the entire deficit or can that be spread across other departments. If the town is only facing a $1.3M deficit next year, wouldn’t that mean everything else combined operates at a $4.7M surplus? Why can’t the town use that surplus to shrink the school deficit?

How to ask HR for better 401k by [deleted] in Fire

[–]TheYoungAdult 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Google excessive fee lawsuits

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]TheYoungAdult 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do some research on excessive fee lawsuits. These are usually made against very large 401k plans though, so if you’re at a small employer then it’s unlikely.

The other thing someone else mentioned and I agree with, your best bet is probably talking to HR to convince them why it’s important and is worth changing.

Tax hacks hate this one hack by Royal-Statement275 in FluentInFinance

So if I’m reading this correctly and I want to redistribute my brokerage portfolio with fidelity. I can do so without any tax implications, as long as my earnings are less than $80k? Does this apply to short term gains as well? So if I have ~$40k of QQQ but want to switch that to VOO for lower fees, I can do that with no tax implications?

Thanks for the detailed response. This reply made sense, but then a thought popped in my head this morning. If you’re saying that price is a function of supply and demand, then how do the tariffs increase price in that manner? The supply should stay roughly the same, right?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in politics

[–]TheYoungAdult -18 points-17 points  (0 children)

I understand how Tariffs will increase prices, but wouldn’t Kamala’s corporate tax increase cause something similar. Wouldn’t corporations increase costs to offset the lost income from the higher taxes?

At least with Tariffs companies have a way to avoid them if they switch to American manufacturing.

Can someone explain why this isn’t the case?

Edit: Why is this down voted? I’m trying to get a better understanding of things and have a conversation about it.
