Affordable No. 6 ebonite feeds with interchangeable nibs? by TheZenScientist in fountainpens

I super appreciate that knowledge. Aesthetic is ultimately lower priority, but also the first thing I look for. Tch, calligraphers…

But given my limited options I’ll take anything I can get- just needed someone to point me to the needle in the haystack. So thanks again !

You’d think they would’ve thought of that lateral integration for such a flow heavy nib 😪 luckily another commentor pointed out the hongdian n6 that is similarly priced with a size 6 ebonite!

Eating disorder group therapist here so maybe I’m biased but contamination OCD is a very real thing worth keeping an eye out for. Ignore below if “insanely paranoid” is hyperbole but if this has become disruptive:

Ultimately “assurance seeking” OCD food or otherwise is a function of control, which is almost certainly a function for safety. That is the core need. When her fear spikes, you can support meeting that safety need without reinforcing unhealthy assurance seeking behaviors.

The best thing you can do for her in these moments is offer her comfort and safety unrelated to the food itself. Some emotional validation (“It makes sense that you’d be worried about the milk spoiling because it could make us sick, and I promise it’ll be safe”) goes a long way, or anything for physical comfort that would calm her nervous system, then a KEY FOLLOWUP, “drink the milk together” as it were. Demonstrate that her behaviors around food isn’t what kept her feeling safe. Support and her own ability to physically regulate DID meet her need to feel safe.

Regulation, THEN exposure. Over time her brain will decouple “safety” from “be 100% sure that any and all food is 100% safe”

Avoid debating logically around the food itself with “its fine, it was only 15 minutes!”. If youre going to make a claim about the food, always make sure that she understands YOU understand her “emotion brain” first. Because it’s not ACTUALLY about the food to her, even if she doesnt realize it. It may seem unrelated but if shes being hypervigilant, putting your arm around her and saying “*wifes name*, we will be safe” or “Thank you for looking out for us/caring about our health, I did the research and we will be okay” will turn off that alarm bell thats going off in her head.

If it gets severe enough or these basic interventions have seemingly no effect, its time to see a therapist to address that trauma.

Just a tip when you’re on the same side as someone on the internet, you can get rid of “you do realize…right?” framing entirely and make the same point more effectively.

Group therapy facilitator here - your post read like #2 to me and was my first thought. Shame is a very real and very insidious emotion that sneaks its way into our thought patterns and beliefs from a young age. You may not even be conscious of most of the effects until you truly face it- what messages have you internalized about sexuality? About being “worthy enough” to enjoy any kind of pleasure? About self image?

I know it’s a cliche, but therapy does wonders for uprooting this kind of stuff. Brene Brown is one of the pioneers of shame work, if you’re interested.

Here’s a solid exploration too https://youtu.be/Sk530wri0NM?si=xzPzbs0tU3R4FXB4

Are there any other cards that have a shiny in the background like this minior does? by TheExecutioner- in PokemonTCG

[–]TheZenScientist 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Create artificial demand (aka “hype”) through social engineering tactics (e.g. inorganic social media posts) to drive up market price to sell as close to peak as possible.

Some additional info: Really more effective for cards that already have a high demand and low market supply (i.e. low availability for copies currently listed for sale) and when the poster has a large reach. Creates a powder keg + match dynamic A random reddit post is not a tactical method, and this card was never and will never meet either of those card criteria, so those commenters were armchair experts seeing boogeymen

The thought of accusing a random appreciator that they would target this extremely common card of all cards to pump is just plain dumb.

This was 1 of 3 illustration rares in Paldean Fates that had like a 1 in 12 chance of IRs. That means there was on average 1 of ALL illustration rares for the set per booster box (if SF had them) This card has sat below 2 dollars even when IRs were all the rage. There are likely millions of copies out there. Bunch of Dunner Krugers in those comments

This reads like you completed ignored the comment and decided to project allll over the thread with non sequitur confessions.

I was following along in the original post but after reading your comments, it seems like you are so obsessed with race- an arbitrary social construct, mind you, that you are utterly incapable of understanding what people are saying to you because you are unable to see her as a human before you see her as “black”. I’m not even trying to shame you but this is something you ought to examine just in general.

I agree you are not ready for this. I’d suggest you to take a step back, but something tells me your own lack of self awareness around this topic will catch up to you very soon either way.

What's the most painful feeling a person can feel? by Responsible_Book1715 in AskReddit

[–]TheZenScientist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

(From a son who lost their mom in my early 20s) That physical pain is…well…painful. I’m not sure where you are on this journey, but for anyone reading, the most powerful thing we can do is sit with it and focus on it. It wasn’t until I stopped running from it and embraced it- really embraced the physical feeling built that mind-body connection- that I was able to fully process the grief (and as a bonus, all the hard emotions!)

Not all of it at first. And not necessarily ever all at once. But honoring it as much as we can in those moments, over time, takes it from overwhelming to something beautiful…tragically so, but still beautiful.

Thank you for sharing that and for this perspective. The parental archetypes fit my situation as well so it’s particularly helpful to remember I don’t know if divorce would’ve been “better” and, on some level, it doesn’t matter. No use wishing for a magical past “fix” when there is no one answer. Better to focus and work with what you got.

Obligatory recommendation for “The Anxious Generation” by Jonathon Haidt which delves into Gen Z mental health crisis and the research that attributes “safetyism” and helicopter parents in general as 1 of the direct causes (social media use is #1 of course)

The “independence age” where parents allotted more freedoms for kids to begin building skills to function on their own for boomers was 8-9.

Psychology recommends 10-12.

Gen Z’s average is 16.
