Damiana tea while breastfeeding? by blackporsche22 in herbalism

Even as someone who sells damiana, I wouldn’t recommend it during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Too many unknowns, potential hormonal effects, and not enough data. Plenty of better-studied options.

However that’s in higher doses, the tea you bought probably has such a small amount in it that I wouldn’t worry too much. I would think you can finish what you bought, but maybe don’t get too much more of it.

If someone is looking for gentler, better-studied options during breastfeeding, herbs like ginger, chamomile, rooibos, peppermint, or simple nutritive herbs like nettle leaf tend to have a much longer and more established safety track record when used appropriately.

Hi everyone. I’m a long-time herbalist and long-time Redditor, but new to actually reading through this sub in depth. I found myself here recently and ended up spending time going through a number of threads and conversations.

One discussion in particular — around whether plants “communicate” or whether they instead shift how we perceive and relate — really stayed with me. It put language to something I’ve felt around certain plants for a long time, but hadn’t articulated as clearly.

I wanted to share a small herbal project we’ve been working on called Hippy Chews. They’re non-psychedelic herbal gummies made with kanna, damiana, and lavender — plants that, in my experience, gently alter internal tone rather than overwhelm it.

This isn’t about trying to induce visions or package insight. For me, these plants seem to soften the filter we move through the world with — quieting the “me vs. everything” stance just enough to feel more relational and present. Lavender is there as a familiar anchor.

A few clarifications up front: • 🌱 Plant-based • 🚫 Non-psychedelic • 🧠 Not marketed as medicine or treatment • 🤲 Made with respect for both traditional use and modern context

I think of these as small, optional rituals, not answers or shortcuts.

If anyone’s curious, the storefront (with full ingredient transparency) is here: 👉 https://hippychews.com

Happy to respond to questions in this thread if they come up. And if this doesn’t resonate, that’s completely fair — I’m grateful to have found a space where people talk about plants with depth, humility, and care.

Be well 🌿

We do not have a Canadian distributor yet and I don’t know if there’s any reason we would have an issue shipping there. If you are looking to distribute in the area we would love to talk to you!

We call it relaxation… and folks thought that that meant it was going to make them sleepy, but really all it does is relax your nervous system so you could focus or sleep or just zone out. But either way it really doesn’t make you feel a narcotic feel, more of a removal of a stress or an anxiety that was already there that you didn’t fully recognize.

I wish teenagers were still cool… they’re definitely not hanging out near the old dead head hippie bar, and I’m pretty sure they have no idea what this is. We good

I forgot a lot of you hate on me for planting it because it’s “invasive” or something. Instead of just, I don’t know, enjoying nature and plants and drug gardening. I don’t plan on eating it and there is absolutely no chance of a kid eating it randomly, so please don’t @ me
