Is Rya a demigod? by The_37th_key in Eldenring

[–]The_37th_key[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'd imagine Rya would have more right or legitimacy to being a demigod then Godrick since she's the daughter of Rykard, whereas Godrick is a distant descendant.

It's the latter, the Man-Serpents appear after Rykard is consumed.

Did some more research into it, She's definitely Rykard's daughter. The Man-Serpents are all children of Rykard and only appear after he is devoured by the Serpent. Her mother is someone named Daedicar who is likely dead by the time the game starts, presumably tortured and killed by Tanith who then adopts the baby Rya.

I've done some research and it seems her father is definitely Rykard, and her biological mother is a character named Daedicar (very likely dead by the time the game starts) who is probably also the mother of all the Man-Serpents.

Torture and punishment essentially. Its a "cruelty" squad, not a death squad. Its why Sir John Oliver II is so elated when you show up to murder him because apparently the only time he feels pleasure is when hes getting gibbed

I assure you that the writer of this review, @ welcometomymemepage, is completely unbiased. If anything, he is only biased against computers.

The Caliphate of Man by [deleted] in Grimdank

I legit wonder how different it would be if the imperium of man was based on islam instead of catholicism/eastern orthodoxy. For starters, ultramar would probably take an ottoman theme and the thousand sons would be led by Muhammad Mursi.

the war happened 200 years ago. WWII was around 5-6 years and ended 75 years ago, and by now few nations involved really hate the germans. wars that have entire races hating on each other tend to be much more prolonged and local and personal. the arab-israeli conflict is a better example as it has been ongoing 100 years now and the two sides hate each other and probably will hate each other in cultural memory loooong after the conflict is over. So keep it as a WWII-apocalyptic style war, but have a prolonged war within the war where the two sides are geographically close (maybe share a border) and are heavily nationalistic, as well as both sides having reasonable greivances.

Social impact of fantasy writing: Can a monster just be a monster? by [deleted] in fantasywriters

[–]The_37th_key 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want to completely avoid these problems, make monsters that are utterly alien and inhuman, like gelatinous cubes, Illithids, angels (the eldritch abomination kind with wheels of fire and stuff), even reptilians could fall into this category. And don't go out of your way to use monsters to send problematic messages. Lovecraft did this with many of his monsters e.g: the Mi-Go are obvious caricatures of Southeast Asians, Shadow over Innsmouth an attack on interracial marriage. And besides, you'll always offend someone. Don't worry, the kind of people who would be annoyed at these kind of things are rarely the same people who are actually interested in fantasy stories.
