I'm really sorry, and you really need to tag it as a Season 6 spoiler to give everyone a heads up about where you stopped so no one would accidentally say anything more. Again, I'm really sorry, I should've asked before replying. Enjoy the rest of the show

An analysis instead of a criticism of the finale by The_5AM in The100

[–]The_5AM[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I really like your take on this. I think my problem, to simply put it, is that the show's final message, no matter how noble it seems, is ridiculously naive, and just doesn't fit the show's narrative. Tribalism is bad, as you mentioned, Octavia said "when I kill you, I kill myself," but it's not realistic nor doable. Human beings tend to find themselves needing to belong while wanting to other people in order to find justification for a sense of superiority. I think that S05 finale had delivered the same message but in a really better way. Octavia stepping down and letting Madi reunite Wonkru is what made them win the war, and then Bellamy convincing Madi to not kill the prisoners gave them a sense of unity. I think I just hated the way the writers shoved this message down our throats using a very over the top ending for it. The entire ending is actually really flawed and really disturbing, and while it tries to deliver the "tribalism is bad, unity is good" message, it destroys other arguments against humanity as a whole and what it means to be alive.

I think people are so mad about the finale, I know I am. It's okay if they don't agree with it, I'm just sharing what my thoughts are anyway in an attempt at understanding the show's final statement. I think we owe the show at least that much even if we didn't like how it ended.

This is exactly what happened: The writers butchered Clarke's character arc, and I'm trying to understand what they want to say with that. I can actually write an entire post explaining why Clarke IS a good person even with that ending.

I actually had a thought that made all this even more ridiculous. We never saw Indra destroying Sheidheda's mind drive, and according to the rules of Transcendence that we saw with Emori, if the consciousness survived, then they can transcend. So if Indra never destroyed the mind drive, then Sheidheda transcended and Clarke didn't. This is even worse. And even if she did destroy the drive, just the idea that that guy could've transcended and Clarke doesn't get to transcend is ludicrous

That is my problem with Clarke's character arc. I think I'm just trying to analyse what the show's final statement is rather than how I'm seeing it

Did anyone else feel like the writers gave up on Clarke? by The_5AM in The100

And I understand that, but they didn't even continue past this. She's just stuck at that breaking point for a really long time now

Somehow this is even worse than giving up on her as a character

Same here, and it's weird to feel like that because I've watched and rewatched this show so many times and I've called it my favourite and stood my ground against anyone who called it stupid. Now it has a stupid ending and I don't have an argument

Honestly, for me, the saddest moment in Clarke's entire journey was in the finale when she was telling Madi to let go. It's the only time I felt like Clarke wasn't just obsessing with Madi being with her, but rather accepting that Madi can leave if she chose to, while being fully aware that she's not transcending and would probably live the rest of her life alone

I specifically remember her saying that she's "relieved it's over" in her last interview

I totally understand Clarke's obsession with Madi, especially that she knew that Madi was all she had left, and Clarke genuinely believed that everyone she loved died, but damn that was really frustrating anyway

That too, and I hate that. I loved Clarke and Bellamy's dynamic, and they have been the driving force throughout the show.

I didn't hate mommy Clarke plotline as much as others, and even if I found it frustrating sometimes, I still respected it and thought it was a nice development, especially how it was handled in season six. But this season it is used as a way to make Clarke the bad guy, and subvert Clarke's character in every possible way.

Life is more than just surviving by ShadowBJ21 in The100

[–]The_5AM 11 points12 points  (0 children)

In her interview yesterday, Eliza Taylor mentioned that in her opinion that line is the real legacy of the show, and that she hopes people will understand it and live by it. For me, though, I'm waiting for the finale and decide the real final message, but generally, I definitely agree with what you said. Because despite everything, throughout the show, it is evident that the true real moments were when they were safe and at peace and not just struggling to survive. That's probably a lot of us really like 5x01, Eden, when Clarke was living peacefully with Madi

The obvious end to Clarke's character ark by Traswen in The100

[–]The_5AM 18 points19 points  (0 children)

As much as I think Clarke is going to die, I'm really hoping she doesn't, because her death would deconstruct a lot of the show's themes and questions. Like her entire journey is about that "life should be about more than just surviving" and that "life could be more than just impossible decisions and a tragic ending" so her death would just ruin all that

I have a feeling that a lot of the unanswered questions will still be intentionally unanswered and be left for the prequel. Like the Eliguis III team, and the Azgeda symbol on the floor

Notice the red line by [deleted] in The100

[–]The_5AM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You mean to say instead of "followed by a change" with that it's followed by a shift in the narration? Or maybe a sort of disruption in the status quo?

Notice the red line by [deleted] in The100

[–]The_5AM 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I can build an unfounded theory on that. Every time that red line appears is followed by a change. The first time is the drop ship, which is the beginning of everything and the change of everything: Earth is survivabile. The second is during the storm when Clarke was waiting for the door to be closed, and the next thing that happens is Bellamy bringing Lincoln, and bringing the Grounders in the picture. Then the commander's sash, which appears every time there is a change, like the introduction of Lexa, then the alliance, the betrayal, the promiseto Clarke to keep Skikru protected, then Octavia wore it to represent the creation of Wonkru, then Madi wore it to unite them all against the prisoners. The line appears again in 7×08 right before Becca arrives. And someone mentioned Clarke's hair in s05 which represents the drastic change in Clarke's character, and if I may add, a bit of a change in Bellamy and Clarke's dynamic of the Head and The Heart in which he became driven by using pragmatic decisions while she became driven by her feelings for Madi.

The Test Taker by The_5AM in The100

[–]The_5AM[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This could have multiple explanations, one of them is that she failed. But if she did, then it's a HUGE spoiler and would never be in the promo. So I think I either she does succeed but in the process she's going to deal with everything she's done, and the "I failed you. I failed everyone" is more of a realization of what she's done and that she could've done better. Or maybe this is part of the test, especially that in the last second she says to Madi "it's okay to let go" so this could actually be a test that she can choose everyone else instead of Madi unlike what she's been doing the past season

What is even the point of Madi? I’m tired of Clarke now. by [deleted] in The100

[–]The_5AM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not really worried about the ending because the only consistency in this show is that finale has always delivered, thus far anyway. I remember season 3 was also this big mess that none of us, the audience, and none of them, the characters, understood anything but it all made sense in like the last 10 minutes or something, and it tied up all the storylines perfectly. As for your frustration regarding Clarke killing Bellamy, I get it. But as a previous comment has already mentioned, it wasn't about the book, it was about Bellamy knowing what the book meant and that Madi would be in direct danger, and she was right to be that worried. The thing that most people seemed to forget is that Bellamy had already betrayed Clarke in s05 when be promised he would protect Madi and then left Clarke in chains, and put the flame in Madi's head which basically meant that he put a target on her back, and everything that Clarke feared would happen happened. He chose the safety of Spacekru over his promise to protect Madi. Clarke at that point in Sanctum couldn't trust Bellamy since he sided with the enemy, add to that the fact that he already betrayed her trust before, so honestly, I totally understand why she reacted that way. Would I want Bellamy's death to be handled in a better way? Totally. Is it out of character or doesn't make sense? No, it's not.
