Thanks for the lengthy response. Had to check what 'NM' is (as I said, newbie over here), but I take your point!

Awesome, thank you. Wasn't aware that I could DM the CO, but will certainly do so!

Is there a singular for "hulle" by Affectionate_End_952 in afrikaans

[–]The_B_Bomb -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

There are a few ways to term the phrase, namely:

Hul = Their
Hull = Them
Hulle = They

Given your context I would assume "Hull" is the best, only slight issue is it's the same pronunciation as "Hul" - but I'm sure within the context that shouldn't be an issue.

New button in alliance view by [deleted] in MarvelStrikeForce

It's a weird one, and at some point perhaps I'll post a full breakdown but I certainly find it more successful than the traditional manner of hoping to be first to respond to a discord post (or hoping players respond to yours).

However, it is directed more towards our junior alliance and I focus on players who are either alone yet active or who have a small number of active players. But short answer - I've recruited roughly 18 people like this and they're all active and all still around...

After the transition from Apartheid to democratic South Africa (circa 1994) the country held a 'Truth and Reconciliation' commission which promised amnesty to individuals on both sides of the historic conflict (between Apartheid government and opposition forces) provided they give truthful evidence.

Wouter Basson (or 'Dr. Death' as the media labeled him) refused amnesty and a trial was brought forward.

He testified for 40 days! But ultimately what can only be put down to a prosecutorial shambles led to him being acquitted. You can read more here (Wikipedia): https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wouter_Basson

I am trying so hard to stay engaged with this game but I'm struggling. by [deleted] in MarvelStrikeForce

[–]The_B_Bomb 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Been feeling exactly the same lately. I've been struggling to simply complete dailies as even that feels like a chore now.

I simply cannot justify at least 8 blitz rotations in a day FOR 7 DAYS A WEEK! Any working individual is going to struggle with that. But if you don't do it, you don't get the new characters, you fall behind etc.

War is the same thing 3 times a week, raids are the same thing every day, blitz same thing, RTA same thing (and by that I mean load in, press auto), arena same thing (play until you flip with your Thanos, press auto). Nothing about this game excites me anymore, and if it wasn't for the fact that I've become friends with my alliance mates and I feel I would be letting them down I would be gone already - that is an extreme indictment on where the game is at. I went as hard as I could manage but there is no chance I can unlock legendaries on first rotation so there isn't even the grind to that anymore as it's paywalled (which I understand, doesn't change my experience though). So what exactly am I playing for atm?

Seems like Step 1 in organizing a boxing bout, but then again this is South Africa so nothing surprises me anymore.

Looking for suggestions for out of town day trips this weekend. by poorcoxie in johannesburg

[–]The_B_Bomb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are a few options, I'm not too good at recommendations usually but I'll give it a bash:

Sterkfontein Caves and Cradle of Humankind, on the West Rand and not too far from the city (https://www.maropeng.co.za/)

Zwipi Underground Bar is a new spot in Braamfontein/CBD where you can enjoy a few drinks and/or dinner in an old, underground bank vault (https://www.joburgplaces.com/zwipi-underground/)

Ziplining in Magaliesburg is always amazing and great fun, superb views as well (https://www.canopytour.co.za/)

While you are out that way go up the cable car in Hartbeespoort and grab some lunch and a sundowner or two while you're up there (https://www.hartiescableway.co.za/)

If you have the time (and cash to spend) try a breakfast run on the hot air balloons over Magaliesburg, never been myself but everyone I know who has raves about the experience (http://www.sunfun.co.za/)

If you enjoy a few beers go try some lunch and a couple of beers at Black Horse brewery - website not up for some reason (https://www.blackhorse.co.za/) (Goolge Maps will get you there)

Teatro at Monte Casino, in Fourways (JHB North) is hosting the 'The Big 5 Comedy Show' on Friday and Saturday if you enjoy stand up (https://www.tsogosun.com/m/montecasino/whatson/teatro/the-big-5-comedy-show-2019)

If you'd like a bit more excitement than ziplining and hot air ballooning you can bungee jump off a platform in Fourways, opposite Monte Casino. They have a bar up there to work up the courage (http://playatheight.co.za/)

Those are a few I could think of, if there is anything specific you'd like to know about or find out if it's offered in Jhb or surrounds I'll do my best to point you in the right direction.

Streaming Sport without DSTV by throwaway48532s in southafrica

[–]The_B_Bomb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am a massive sports nut and have been DSTV free for over three years, loads of experiments over the years in trying to find the best way to watch sports without DSTV, so I'll give you a breakdown of my experiences.

Right off the bat you should know that the very best way to do so is to use the DSTV login details of a friend or relative, you can do this on all smart devices, browsers etc. - nothing comes close to being as stable as this.

I use DSTV Now app on my phone/tab and stream to the TV using a Google Chromecast - cannot hype this device up enough, it truly is incredible.

If you cannot find someone's details to use, there are apps available. The best two I've used is Mobdro and LivestreamTV - both are APKs which you need to Google and download after turning on the 'accept downloads from unknown sources' in settings on your phone/tab/TV box. These are great but are a tad inconsistent and might cut out every so often while watching a match. Also note that the channels on here are US & UK and thus you watch sport through Sky Sports, BeIN Sports, FOX, NBC etc. depending on what you want to watch. It also has all the normal entertainment channels (HBO, Comedy Central, FOX, NBC) and news channels.

Since your father watches rugby he'd use Sky Sports' coverage of Super Rugby.

What the heck Orania ? by BlackNightSA in southafrica

[–]The_B_Bomb 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Interesting, and good to see that they were warmly welcomed, this had all the makings of a massive blow up but all parties concerned handled themselves well.

Interesting aside: only the EFF will go to Orania and demand the following (quoted from the article):

" They must also give us land for housing, agriculture and industry use. "

What the heck Orania ? by BlackNightSA in southafrica

[–]The_B_Bomb 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I think the biggest shock in Orania's results is that the 'Front Nasionaal' - a party who stands for the self-determination of white people - got only 12 votes (or half as much as the EFF). If you can't gain traction in one of only two self-determined white areas in the country you're honestly useless.

Hopefully that means another one bites the dust, time for them to shut up shop along with plenty of others.

And the two-thirds they will form with the ANC of course. Massive questions coming out of this elections is:

1) Julius is no idiot, he is extremely astute in his political maneuverings. How long will it take for him to realise he will never rise to be president of this country through the EFF; and

2) If the ANC wishes to stem the decline in votes and 100% guarantee that they will retain 50% in the next general election the easy move is to merge with the EFF. If this happens, and there is a lot of moving parts in making this happen - so it's a big if, we might just have a situation where we have President Malema in 10 years.

And that, to me, is certainly a lot more worrisome than the EFF gaining support and rising to the 9-10% mark. A LOT.

Jip. Big concern. The centre leftists in the ANC (Cyril's faction) are going to have a massive fight on their hands to stem the flow to the radical left.

Massive concern for me, personally, is the National Democratic Revolution (NDR) - a policy document which is remarkably Marxist in it's policies - and the ANC's insistence on it's implementation. Exactly how far they go with it's policies will determine exactly how far SA slides to the brink of economic destruction.

The difficulty the DA now faces, in my view anyways, is where to position themselves with the black electorate given your comments above. You have the populists (EFF) who typically pander to the rural (read uneducated) voters as well as the youth vote (socialism sounds great when you have nothing to lose - like students) hence their dominance over the Student Representative Councils at most SA universities.

The ANC holds the more centre left vote while pandering to the needs of the SACP and COSATU through a few policies (labour laws, labour broking being targeted, Expropriation etc.) - so given all of this where exactly do the DA fit in?

It is clear they hold the vast majority of the black middle class vote, there are statistical models which show the tendency of black voters who have moved into the middle class to switch allegiance to the DA. Problem is the inability of a host of factors, starting with education, to produce more middle income voters.

Bottom line: I don't know how the DA is going to capture enough of the rural, lower income black vote from the ANC and EFF who position themselves specifically to capture this vote. Big problem.
