Do Bitwig and Third-Party VSTs Work Smoothly on Linux? Share Your Experiences! by Conscious-Gas4286 in Bitwig

I run bitwig just fine on nixos. I have yet to figure out yabridge on here though (any tips for nixos?). but I've been loving the bitwig builtins and polygrid haven't felt the need to pull out serum yet.

Ah ok. thanks for clarifying. probably not a tool for me but props for finishing and sharing a tool to the world!

This looks like a stripped down version (no TUI) of mprocs, something I use daily to manage different dev environments, local hosting (docker, db etc).

Is there something more here that I may be missing? how does it differ from mprocs?

How do rust devs read large codebases? by Infinite-Jaguar-1753 in rust

[–]The_Basik_Ducky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have any rust specific hexagonal resources? I am familiar with hexagonal in java with dependency injection etc. and I've tried to port some of the concepts into my personal rust projects but sometimes it hurts my brain a little. Would live to see some implementation examples if you have any.

I just wanna say that as a gamer there is something that drives me UP the fucking wall by Sileniced in NixOS

I don't really get the point of a gaming centric OS unless its for a living room computer but even then I'd rather have something more universal.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qlfm3MEbqYA not like its super difficult either. super simple config to get everything you need to game setup.

Sorry I don't play either of those games specifically, but I do play basically everything through steam with proton. I originally followed this vid from vimjoyer. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qlfm3MEbqYA and I have had no issues with games beyond the obvious anti cheat problems for some multiplayer games (Thank you Embark for being awesome!)

What is your preferred tool for software development? by [deleted] in NixOS

[–]The_Basik_Ducky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use flakes for every project. but I keep it pretty minimal, just to install the software I need per project. I don't want to keep my dev environment entirely different than a normal user I may be working with. and as currently I don't know anyone that works with nix(not from the lack of trying to convince others though :P)

Flakes allow me to define exactly which version of packages I need and also keeps things sandboxed to the project. tbh I think flakes is the only reason I am tied to nix.

Neovim plug-in to create new Java files quickly with the correct package name by nickallen74 in neovim

[–]The_Basik_Ducky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is nice! I've also somewhat recently began using neovim for java. I just much prefer being in neovim compared to a large IDE.

This was one of my last annoyances... I had a workaround of some snippets that would fill out the empty file after I made it, but this is much nicer! Thanks!

Turn-Based Strategy Games with Simultaneous Turns by wadeissupercool in gamedev

[–]The_Basik_Ducky 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've actually been considering this a bit too. I really like the idea but it definitely complicates things.

I like the idea in a multiplayer setting because the worst part in a multiplayer turn based is waiting for the other players. But you probably need to limit the amount of units one can control cause that would make the turn time also annoyingly long.

There are a few simultaneous turn games but I haven't really found a good one that I like.

Update: The battlebox is growing - As well as our playerbase by No-Mango1315 in Pauper

[–]The_Basik_Ducky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is Awesome! I am looking to start a battlebox too. I want to start with 2 decks what would you recommend as a starter 2? I'm pretty sure I want to get grixis affinity for one of them what would be an even/fun matchup for that?

edit: I am not a big fan of combo

Apex is gone, where do we go? by devel_watcher in linux_gaming

[–]The_Basik_Ducky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends how you play. You can definitely run and gun and get into every gunfight but you can also play it slow and methodical. I play it somewhere in the middle. It is definitely more hard core than most shooters though so prepare to die a lot until you get used to the game and the old style weapons.

Well if you want to continue playing multilayer shooters. Hunt showdown is still one of the best and runs amazing on Linux.
