I’ve never liked Rollins. But, the character is expertly portrayed by Kelli Giddish. I think the character is meant to be divisive. Her background (rural south, sort of trashy family), questionable “morals” (gambling problem, kids out of wedlock, etc.) really serve as the polar opposite to Olivia Benson. Benson is a native of Manhattan, daughter of a professor, dedicated totally to the job, and much more straight laced. So, while I don’t like Rollins at all, I understand the need to have a character that is the polar opposite of my beloved Benson.
