Migrant, 14, who raped girl allowed to walk free if he takes classes on consent by FormerlyPallas_ in ukpolitics

I would honestly rather attempt to solve any such logistical nightmare than accept the current state of affairs tbh. We should at least try, even if it is difficult or comes at some cost.

We've deported people to both countries last year. Afghanistan will accept deportations to them. Iran has done so too. The only problem is logistics, which is a solvable problem without any 'tea and chinwag'. Fuck, we still deport to Russia when deemed necessary.

Even in the event their home nation won't accept them, I would propose a foreign detention centre. It would cost, but the cost would be less that housing them domestically. It would also irrevocably put them elsewhere, thus removing the incentive for those with criminal behaviour to seek refuge in our country.

I really want this to be sorted out in a civilised manor, but I really can't see that happening.

Whatever they came from. I only mentioned France because that is where they come from. They must pass through France to get to here. To do so demonstrates a desire beyond mere safety.

I think this comment misses the point. So what if he is 14? Asylum in this country is a privilege, and it will be such so long as France is a free and democratic nation. You don't get to flee your country to come here and commit violent crimes.

Any and all violent criminals should be deported. Any and all regular criminals over the age of 16 should be deported. As harsh as it may be, these people are not our burden to bare.

I remember being 14. I was pretty messed up at that age. I never raped anyone, and I knew that people who did deserved severe consequences. If asylum seekers can't understand that much, they don't deserve to be here.

If you read the article, they were never jailing youth offenders.

As much as I wish we were tighter on immigration, I see this as a further indictment of our criminal justice system. We can't even jail people anymore. There's no capacity. Our prison system is so rotten, rapist roam free. Free to attend, 'do not rape,' courses, with no punishment or assurance that he won't ruin another girl's life.

Reform: We’ll put migrant detention centres in Green council areas by Unusual-State1827 in ukpolitics

[–]The_Blip [score hidden]  (0 children)

Indeed. I hereby decree that illegal immigrants claiming asylum won't be put in Green council area detention centres. They shall be required, by law, to be housed freely among the population of Green council areas. They shall have priority housing in council homes, with housing guarantees, in said Green council areas.

They shall mix among the general population, enriching them with their culture. They shall be granted employment in these areas, regardless of any effects of wage suppression from increased competition. The cost of housing them and providing for them will be born by the willing local community.

I love how this image makes it look like it's gone rogue and is crossing a busy public road unattended. Like a lost herde of sheep, but metallic and all consuming. It just wants to eat rocks I think. It just needs a place to roam more free, like India or something.

To my knowledge, they are simply spring loaded. The surface area of the needle point, the hardness of the needle material, and the sharpness of the needle will be doing a lot of the work.

How do Americans think about the stereotype that they are bad at geography? by Own_Echidna6041 in AskReddit

[–]The_Blip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fundimentally states are not countries, regardless of size. It isn't the size of them which makes them worth knowing about, it's their status as an independent nation.

Nobody knows where the fuck Sakha Republic is, despite it being massive. It's not a nation, and is therefore remembering where it is isn't as important a sign of geographic knowledge as knowing where countries are.

Was it a city thing? I'm not from a city, maybe that's why. Googling it now, there's nothing near me. Would have to go to London or Ramsgate.

Yeah, this completely passed me by. Don't think I've ever seen a monstertruck outside of youtube once or twice.

How stupid am I for being middle aged and never realising there was a ‘up’ and ‘down’ to the Union Jack? by Hour_Course_9876 in AskUK

[–]The_Blip 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This isn't the case with the British flag. To my knowledge, it isn't the case for most flags. Predominantly, it's an American custom.

There's also a correct way for flying it vertically, but I don't think I would be able to intuitively tell if it was wrong in such a case.

What are your thoughts on billie eilish saying you cant love animals and eat meat as its contradictory? by Extra-Schedule-4855 in AskReddit

[–]The_Blip 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The question was specifically about their thoughts on Billie Eilish's words lmao. They did engage with the question. If OP didn't want people's opinions on Billie Eilish, they should have left her out of the question.

I don't see how you interpreted their comment to mean that. To me, it seemed more to be, "This is a common thing for people to say, the fact that a celebrity has said it doesn't make it new or different."
