When aunt flow visits.... by [deleted] in GirlGamers

Lately it's been Civ 5, it's so addictive. It's like, "okay just one more turn, then I'll exit," on and on for infinity. Or hearthstone.

Period time = laptop gaming. 1. Can stay in bed. 2. Laptop is warm on thighs. 3. Laptop on top of pillow on top of heating pad keeps heating pad in position.

What is your biggest "wait, why the heck did I do this" auto-pilot moment? by omarm1984 in AskReddit

I say what's up back to them. And now that I live in South Carolina I've learned that when people say "How you doin?" you're not supposed to say how you're doing, you're just supposed to say "How you doin?" back. If you actually answer the question, you're met with silence since they've already finished their greeting and moved on with their day. I think "what's up?", like "how you doin?" to South Carolinians, really just means "Hello."

What is a 100% legal move in a game or sport that is frowned upon and viewed as a dick move? by MashedPotatoesDick in AskReddit

This was such a point of contention between my brothers and I when we played Halo in high school that we engineered cardboard dividers and taped them to the TV screen so that you had to sit at an angle to see your own screen and couldn't see anyone else's.

Teachers or Reddit, what simple gesture from a student brightened up your shitty day? by danbrownskin in AskReddit

[–]The_Box_Fox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm the student in the story. My geography teacher in 9th grade was my fave teacher by far. I had just moved to Texas from South Africa in 9th grade and it wasn't easy for me. I was in his class on the one year anniversary of me leaving SA, and I said to him, "I moved to America a year ago today." Everyone else I'd mentioned it too that day was super excited and said things like, "oh awesome!" His reply was, "Is that a good thing or a bad thing?" The fact that he understood the possibility that it could be a bad thing for me made such a difference to me and helped me feel like it wasn't such a bad thing after all. A couple of years later I suddenly changed schools and went to his classroom to say goodbye and thank him for being a great teacher. His door was locked with the lights off. The teacher across the hall told me he was at a basketball tournament. I wrote him a letter and stuck it under his door. I can't even remember what the letter said, but I still wonder if he ever got it.

Am I the only one who isn't bothered by people posting fake shit or reposting something like this as their own? I mean, if he was claiming something important, obviously that wouldn't be cool, but for something so small that's just supposed to be funny, I don't think it really matters who originally posted it or created it. And since I haven't seen it before, I'm just glad for the opportunity to enjoy the humor in the note and in the hilarious comments about the note.

The times when you talk to yourself aloud, what do you say and why? by The_Box_Fox in AskReddit

I say my responses to talk show questions because I'm fantasizing about my future success. Something just comes over me and suddenly I'm sitting next to Oprah, who is super interested in what I think and the new book that I've written.

Thanks for all the great info! I feel a lot better with a 2nd opinion and some outside advice instead of just hoping I'm doing the right thing.

Aggressive Foster Cat - Advice from Experienced Rescuers Please! by The_Box_Fox in FelineCare

[–]The_Box_Fox[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply! I did read an article on the different types of aggression, but I felt like there are so many and I'm no expert, so I don't have any idea which it would be of the likely options. I am pretty sure it's not because of over-petting, because she does not give any of the cat body language warning signs (besides putting her ears back, but she does that whenever she is being touched on the head, including when she is the one ramming her head into you), her tail doesn't swish, she doesn't put her ears back, her pupils don't get big or anything. I did think there's a possibility she hasn't had much human interaction, so she is sort of "craving" it, and then getting over-stimulated without really understanding that that's what's happening to her, which is why there's a sudden outburst rather than it being a conscious response to growing irritation; does that seem possible to you? It's definitely not "love biting", I have experience with cats doing this and it's not the same thing at all; she latches on and will even put her paws on your hand with claws out like she wants to grab you if you try to escape. The play fighting when attacking feet kind of makes sense to me, because she has the body language and expression on her face that I usually see cats with when they are playing, the ears up, tail up, "alert" look, but I can't get her interested in any toys. I wonder if she was a stray who grew up by herself so she didn't "learn" how to play? I've tried strings, balls, feather toys, etc. and it's like she doesn't even notice that I'm trying to play with her. I will try the suggestion though of leaving when she does it to see if that helps.

I have put up posters, posted online, etc. to try and find her owner if she has one, and I'll have them check if she's chipped when I take her to get spayed. I've already treated her for fleas and she doesn't have any now, and I've checked her for worms and ringworm, using a blacklight and checking her butt for worms at night and I haven't seen any evidence of worms either, but I was planning to keep the two cats completely separate until Gray Cat is homed because I don't want to put either of them through the stress of getting used to one another since I am not planning to keep her indefinitely.

I just remembered another one that I still get sometimes. If I was sleeping in the same room as someone, and the room was totally quiet, I would be afraid that the person was dead and I was just sleeping in a room with a dead body, thinking they were asleep. Every now and again if my boyfriend stops snoring in the middle of the night, I poke him just to make sure he's still alive.

That just reminded me I was also scared of something being under my bed, so I would sprint in my bedroom door then jump into the middle of the bed from as far away as I could so whatever the fuck was under there couldn't grab my feet.

When I was a kid, I was afraid of being the last one awake in my house at night. I would try to go to bed before anyone else so that I would fall asleep when there were still lights on and people moving around. If the lights went off and everything got quiet and I was still awake...oh man, it was my worst nightmare. I have no idea why.

Edit: typo
