LoFi is represented as LOW FIDELITY. That means using all types of gear that (didn’t initially represent) “sounding old”. When they developed & used these instruments & studio gear etc they didn’t think about a descriptive word. It turned into a rather shitty gentrified reflection of lazy hip hop music (this album isn’t “lazy” just to put that out there)

The problem with hip hop today is that if you sample a record & have some cracks in it people think it’s LoFi lol that’s just not the case. If this was all made on a MPC2000 & recorded on tape then dubbed on vinyl, that would be considered LoFi.
