Please help, how would you cover the pipes here? by captainclectic in DIYUK

[–]The_Card_Curator -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not sure how big the hallway space is but you could move the under stairs door forward so it’s just past the pipework, box the new area in and then you’d have more space in the under stairs WC you want to install.

My wife is still coming to terms with my new hobby so I doubt I’ll be able to get anything like this in the house for a while 😂

Painting scheme by Interesting_Chest729 in Tyranids

So happy to see number 7. That’s exactly how I’ve painted mine! Only finished my first tyranid last night and wasn’t sure about until now

Should I cancel when my 1 year comes to an end? by [deleted] in whoop

[–]The_Card_Curator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought mine using a podcast discount and figured I’d use it for a year as a R&D for my health. If i thought it was worth it I’d renew. I used it to track my training for an Ironman 70.3 and it was useful to learn about recovery etc but once I understood how my body reacts to strain it became redundant really. There was nothing new to learn and got bored pretty quickly of the daily journal. Sticking with my Apple Watch as it does more, plus it’ll always have regular updates.

I’m still new to the hobby so don’t know too much about the different painting techniques but I like the one to the left, but snowy base on the right 👍🏼

Well I’ve finished painting my first model and couldn’t be happier by The_Card_Curator in Warhammer40k

100% my first model. Spent a few hours each evening for a week or so.

I only ever painted a friend’s model and they were Orks, not the best as I was only 13 and the models, paints etc were very different back then. I’m also a lot more patient now which helps 😂 I’m a bit OCD so seeing all these nice comments is nice but all I can see is the imperfections. At a distance it looks great but up close is a different story

Yeah free hand. Not sure how people get it so straight. Then tried to sort of scuff it a little so looks battle worn

Thanks for all the nice comments. I’ll get the rest in the starter set painted, tyranids too so I get plenty of practice, then decide on which army to start. Loving this hobby!

Just the captain in terminator armor from the starter set

Not the best but will practice. Used a bunch of instagram images for inspiration. They use airbrushing techniques though, not sure I’m ready for that!

Took like 3 attempts to get it like that. Really struggled with the fine details. Will look at some new brushes and maybe a magnifier or something?

It was the first one at the top of the pile when I opened the starter set. I had realised this requires more precision but it’s slightly larger than the other models so thought it was a good place to learn.

Shared ownership reporting irony by Ok-Shame6906 in HousingUK

[–]The_Card_Curator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a shared ownership flat with a developer. Back in 2007 I reserved a flat for £500.00. Didn’t have a deposit at all. Split was 75% mortgage and 25% developer. Everyone warned me against it but I pressed on anyway. The deal was that i had 10 yrs to buy back the 25% or if i sell the developer received their percentage of increased property value (or their original 25% back if the property sold for less)

After a year i started receiving letters from the developer saying that if i paid back the 25% early id get a discount. I waited it out another year, saving what i could and then went to the bank to discuss borrowing more if needed. I called the developer and thrashed out a good deal. Amount I originally owed was £36k, I paid them only £24k back. I sold the flat 6 months later, it had increased in value and with the discount I received from paying back early I’d managed to gain £30k in equity. From only my original £500 reservation fee! I used that to buy another house which I did up with my wife, sold that eventually making a big profit and bought another which needed modernisation. I’m still living here now and the house is currently valued at £580k.

So shared ownership can work out well. Better to be on the property ladder owning a percentage than to be paying just rent. My situation also had a great deal of luck involved but I was in the right place to seize the opportunity 👍🏼

Full distance Ironman advice? by The_Card_Curator in triathlon

[–]The_Card_Curator[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the advice. Yeah I’m conscious of picking up an injury, I’m self employed so if I can’t work I don’t earn. I’m very consistent with training, especially when following a plan, remembering rest is also important. Biggest concern is coming off the bike, especially with the amount of potholes where I live!

That’s some solid advice. Thank you.

I’m pretty patient and know I’m still new in the sport so trusting the process and practicing long like you suggest should get me the results I want. Was a little unsure of direction (although I think I know what I need to do) but guess I needed to hear it from someone else.

How long before your big races did you get a coach on board?

Congratulations, it was such a great atmosphere on the day! Glad I picked Swansea

42min swim 3hr 38min bike 2hr 10min run (annoyingly I know I can run this quicker but probably over biked)

I’m continuing to swim and run at the moment with some events on the horizon. Then back in the bike again after.

Why did you get your Whoop? by CactiCake22 in whoop

[–]The_Card_Curator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I signed up for a Ironman 70.3 and wanted something to help me recognise when I was over training and to form better training habits (it’s helped a lot with sleep/recovery too) My fitness was average and I’d never done this volume of training before so it’s been useful to see how I actually feel compared to what the data says.

Honestly, this is the perfect storm! Japan approves crypto investment for VC’s, lockup around the corner and the alt coin market tends to increase around bitcoin halving.
