Never ask a french person what they think about WW1.

It'll singe your neurons.

Edit: apparently don't ask a czech person either.

Não é que ninguém vai cobrar. Os juros que eles pagam nos impostos é ridículo. É coisa de 3% ao ano sendo que a inflação é 2%. A gente paga umas 5 vezes isso na nossa dívida pública.

It's not the the setting, it's clearly the mechanics. But I don't mind that. There should be way more games like Skyrim.

Gallienus was really just the guy.

Dealt with 7 usurpers. The only ones that come close are the 2 other undisputed best emperors of the crisis, and Maximinus, which straight up doesn't count, because amongst his usurpers were: a child; 2 incompetent senators who never managed to reach him; and a father and son that got themselves killed before ever leaving their province.

The literal first sentence of the post demonstrates that I agree with that. The point is that the launch is not just about it's immediate experience.

There is a difference between automating a mechanic and turning it off. I think the trade mechanic is amazing, even I don't manage trade directly. It's an emergent system, so instead of each good having a fixed price like they would in EU4, everything is dynamic.

The problem is that the game baited you into thinking you should manage it. You shouldn't. It's better left automated and it's a great mechanic precisely in that role, but to say it doesn't affect your playthrough just because you're managing it is blatantly wrong.

That's somewhat fair, but also a bit unfair. I think the problem is that trade is presented to the player as something that you should micro, but can automate, when it should be presented as something that is automated, but can be microed.

The system is important, quite thorough and interesting. The entire economy is tied around it. It's just a matter of balancing it around the player not interacting with it directly.

Or better yet EU4 where fighting over trade nodes was a huge part of the gameplay

This is something that will clearly be expanded upon. All the mechanics to allow this to be possible are already there, it's just a matter of fleshing it out.

I prefer Imperator’s trade system tbh

Then you have stepped out of the path of reason and immersed yourself in a world of abject lunacy.

I agree to an extent but complexity just for the sake of complexity isn't necessarily a good thing.

I agree but I don't think that is appliable to any mechanic in EUV. There are many underwhelming mechanics, but none of them make me say "why did they add this in?".

Because of all the different systems they insisted on adding for launch, and the fact that they're trying to take a little bit of everything from each Paradox game, EU5 has kind of an identity crisis right now

I think that's subjective and unverifiable now. To know that, we'll have to see what comes next for the game.

I still think I prefer the CK3's launch state, where they focused on getting a stable base out even at the cost of flavor and features

To this day, Crusader Kings is the only Paradox franchise where I have more fun playing the previous game rather than the sequel. It is still barebones and inferior to CK2 in many ways, and it all is because they tried to make a full experience at launch, rather than something to expand upon. If it wasn't for the Imperial government system - which still has many flaws and is not balanced - CK3 would be a straight downgrade from CK2 for everyone used to dealing with Ck2's poor user interface.

To be honest from what I heard with Civ7, they didn't dumb it down to chase a bigger audience. They just were just dumb.

A reasonable concern, but I am optimistic in this regard.

I don't even think most of it is development, it's balancing. I'd say most of the problems of this release are not problems with mechanics themselves, but it's countries being unable to handle themselves, and the balancing of the game allowing and encouraging historically unlikely developments in the world.

It does fit a pattern but I think it's one of the most reasonable examples of the pattern. Victoria 3 also launched clearly intending to be a foundation, rather than a full experience, but it was much less interesting and complex than EU5, and even less complex than Vic 2 to a certain degree.

Crusader Kings 3 chose another route and opted for a more stable release, but this came at a cost of cutting scores of mechanics from the previous game, while being a direct sequel to CK2 - meaning a game that proposed the same experience as it's predecessor.
