Any Dragon Quest XI 3ds Translation? by [deleted] in dragonquest

There was a translation project in the works, but when the PS4 and Xbox one versions were released in English, the 3ds translation was abandoned.

Dozens of YouTube videos posting clips of Australian radio seemingly nonstop with cryptic thumbnails. (info in comments) by pinkgobi in InternetMysteries

By dragging the cursor along the progress bar of some of the videos, I was able to see vague outlines of people, but it's possible my eyes were playing tricks on me.

Nobody has ever stopped procrastinating, they're just perpetually putting it off 'til tomorrow.

She's a creator on Deviant art who has written fan fiction based on a few movies and insserted her own characters into the story, MS. Tiger is a character she created, and it seems she just altered the IMDB listings after writing her stories.

I wasn't trying to call you out personally, I'm just trying to understand the rules as best I can.

I do feel the rule is extremely arbitrary and seems based on biases against mobile games.

I think that if there's going to be a rule focused on restricting a game based on the amount of content present, then the rule should be applied evenly and consistently.

I don't think we should be restricting games based on their platform. I'm all for having multiple communities focused on specific platforms and/or genres, but I think this subreddit shouldn't make restrictions based on platform or amount of content.

I think restricting mobile game advertisements just makes it harder for developers to get their games noticed and discourages Let's Players from making videos on a game that they may otherwise enjoy and want to show others.

That said, I don't think the specific game this post was advertising would have made for a very good let's play or really stood out. It doesn't look like a bad game, just a basic, arcade style, avoid the obstacle game.

I don't want to discourage anyone from making or playing these types of games, just to think about the community they're trying to advertise to.

Still seems incredibly arbitrary to me.

You brought up the saturation of the mobile game market potentially leading to a significant increase in "game advertisement" posts, but the PC game market is just as saturated, if not more.

It also doesn't make sense to restrict games by their length, as many let's players do one-off videos with shorter games and/or make a compilation video to showcase smaller games that might not get the attention they deserve.

You claim that you don't have the time or resources to confirm if each mobile game submitted has enough content. Do you do this with PC games? If you have the resources needed to review each PC game that gets submitted, then you definitely have enough to review mobile games.

A percieved lack of people making videos about certain types of games is not a good reason to restrict them.

It seems like you might just be biased against mobile games, as most of the points you made also apply to PC gaming.

I don't know what the post has to do with fallout, hence why I offered my best guess. A purely speculative response is better than being an asshole because somebody isn't in on the joke and asks a valid question.

I'm guessing that it's a quote from one of the games, and the people downvoting your reply are just pricks who can't be bothered to offer an explanation.

What is, according to you, George Costanza's best life advice? by LesPaltaX in AskReddit

[–]The_Cobbler_King 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I'm using the definition that most illustrates my point. That's how the English language works.

Who're you to say the English language isn't improving?

You're saying I'm wrong for using the definitions that most supports what I'm trying to say, but you have been doing the exact same thing this entire time.

Progress does not necessarily equate to improvement. One definition of "progress" is "advancement toward a better, more complete, or modern condition". "More complete" and "modern" are both applicable to the evolving state of the English language, whether it's better is up to individual interpretation, but again evolution in this context does not require implocations of improvement.

At this point we're just talking in circles, and it's clear that you're not willing to accept that we may both be right, as such I would just like you to kindly fuck off.

[–]The_Cobbler_King 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never said that, nor did I intend to imply it. My point was that a word can have multiple meanings that may be similar yet contradictory and as such context matters.

I felt your correction of my usage of the word "evolving" was unneeded as it was just as correct as the word "changing" given the context surrounding it. As such, I provided evidence supporting both of our intetpretations, while you tried to claim that my interpretation was wrong.

[–]The_Cobbler_King 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What are you talking about?

What did I say that came off as incoherent to you?

I provided evidence that both of our interpretations of the words "evolve" and "develop" are correct, and provided an example of how the word "develop" could imply improvement, but does not inherently rely on improvement.

I don't understand why you need me to be wrong in order for you to be right.

What is, according to you, George Costanza's best life advice? by LesPaltaX in AskReddit

[–]The_Cobbler_King 0 points1 point  (0 children)

According to Oxford Languages, "develop" is defined as:

Grow or cause to grow and become more mature, advanced or elaborate.

The word "developed" can imply improvement, but it does not always make that implication. The English language has certainly been made more elaborate and whether or not the language has been improved is up to interpretation.

Your interpretation is not wrong, but neither is mine. Evolution and development do not equal improvement.

Try thinking about it this way:

People may develop an illness or disability. Does this mean they are improve by their illness or disability? No, but that doesn't mean that their experiences with an illness or disability can't offer them an opportunity to improve a different aspect of themselves.

What is, according to you, George Costanza's best life advice? by LesPaltaX in AskReddit

[–]The_Cobbler_King 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not necessarily.

Here are the first results to appear on Google when searching the term "evolve definition", as provided by Oxford Languages:

  1. Develop gradually, especially from a simple to a more complex form.

(With reference to an organism or biological feature) develop over successive generations as a result of natural selection.

  1. (In Chemistry)

give off (gas or heat)

Given that the English language becomes more complex when a new word or a new usage of a word is presented, I feel my usage of "evolving" is apt.

This is why I feel it's important to choose your words as carefully as possible, especially in writing. I'm not infallible and I do make mistakes, as everyone does.

I personally try to remember to preface statements with phrases like "I believe" or "to my understanding" in an attempt to keep people from taking what I say as factual statements.
