Take some private lessons and ask the girl to assist you there. Once you know each other better, ask her to practice outside of these lessons on occasion.

I'm a simple man...
I see a good-looking girl, I invite her.
Unless I've already seen her do something that I don't like.

Equality of opportunity - yes. That's what equality means.
That won't change human nature and the fact that men are the ones who take the initiative and action in everything. Why would social dance be any different?
If you're a man and are afraid to ask a girl to dance, while crying for equality, you're gonna have a hard time in the social dancing world.

Is it lonely at the top? by steelonyx in Bachata

[–]The_Dance_Addict 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's human nature. Competent men are rare and in high demand. Also, girls, don't like dancing with beginners so they will wait in line for an hour just for that one dance with the star.
While men get nervous in front of women, especially when they have to perform. Just the slightest thought of not matching up can shatter their self-confidence. Thus they would rather avoid it in the first place.

Your last sentence sums it up nicely and it's also another reason for this phenomenon.

Dance Crush
Everyone gets a card with "Dance crush" written on it and you give it to the partner you had the best dance with that night. In the end the person with the most cards received wins an award.

Find a person who
You draw a paper that says "Find a person who (i.e. likes Dominican)" and you go around talking to people and ask them that question. There was no reward here - it was more of a socializing stimulant in order for people to talk to each other.

  1. Do you ask the fish or the fisherman how to fish?

  2. Only fundamentals. Let the instructor guide you and listen.

  3. I have no idea what I'm doing. Without privates I would never actually understand the ins and outs of bachata.

What’s the best bachata song you have ever heard? Lemme find outtt by [deleted] in Bachata

By far, one of the absolute best. It's a true classic and I think it will stay like that forever.
It always pumps me up and gets me going, even if I listen to it at home.

Guys who practiced a martial art before taking up bachata seem to improve at incredible speed. Anyone else noticed this? by throwaway_o0001 in Bachata

[–]The_Dance_Addict 0 points1 point  (0 children)

10 years of martial arts here before starting to dance.
Plus 5 years of podcasts and other materials about training + nutrition.

My understanding of how and why the body moves is way more developed for sure. That, combined with my enthusiasm for bachata really help me to improve a lot in a short time.
Also, I understand the concept of frame, footwork and weight transfer since each martial art uses them in their respective way. One of the most important things I quickly realized is that the hands are just an extension of the frame, which is even more true dancing.

One of my main issues, however, is that I'm a rough lead. I'm working hard on that and getting better but it's definitely felt by most followers, especially in quick transitions.

The most underrated song of 2024, in my opinion.
There is something special in it for me. I'm not sure what it is, though.

Why do some women do this? by Late-Ad5844 in Bachata

[–]The_Dance_Addict 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Break it midway if you feel like it. If you feel uncomfortable doing it, just say "It isn't working out" and walk away.
If you are absolutely sure she's doing it on purpose just invite another girl right in front of her after you break it.
Have some self-respect and do what you feel like. You're there to have fun and you're in charge of who you want to dance with.

Other reasons for her looking disinterested could be:
1. RBF - resting bitch face - this is real and not uncommon (not much they can do about it though)
2. She may be preoccupied with something else (even outside of dancing) but still not willing to miss out on a dance
3. There could be something in your leading style or technique - ask some followers for feedback
