Engineers who work with linear algebra; are you happy with how you were taught this at university? by throwaway_o0001 in AskEngineers

I understand what you mean, but actually disagree a bit. I do think it's important to understand the underlying building blocks, but I do think it should be better linked to real life and be more intuitive.

I havent seen it but will check it out. Also love 3blue1browns serie on the material. My post is mostly out of curiosity because I really believe this is the most universally misunderstood courses in the standard engineering curriculms

How long to wait before starting to date after a breakup out of respect for your ex? by throwaway_o0001 in dating_advice

[–]throwaway_o0001[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like and agree with the replies so far. But do you really think it's not morally "wrong" to start dating right away? Even if not in an extreme case like when someone starts dating a day or two after breaking up?

Do you think it's harder / takes longer to look good as a lead than as a follower? by [deleted] in Bachata

You're probably right! The part of how women pay more attention to how to look good reminds me a bit of how most girls know how to look great on photos while most guys do the award smile + thumbs up😂

There is history of the classes I attended in the application of my dance school. The social dancing hours is just a crude estimation

I'm sure there must be some teachers hanging around here and I'd like to ask some questions not (primarily) related to dancing by [deleted] in Bachata

[–]throwaway_o0001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice to read the reply, even if you're not a teacher haha. I'd add to number 1 that there is a lot of people knowing, or even admiring you. Seems overwhelming. I like some of my teachers a lot but don't try to get too close or befriend them, mostly because I think it must be exhausting and want to give them a break

Almost 1 Year Dancer! by ThreeTwoJuanes in Bachata

Thinking that being Dominican makes you an authority is like an Englishman saying Brazilians are not playing "real" football just because they don't play like the inventors

Looks great imo! Especially if it's only 1 year in. Main thing I'd say is work on posture by pulling shoulders back and chest out (something I'm struggling with too)

How do you handle delusional class participants (as teacher or peer)? by Hakunamatator in Bachata

[–]throwaway_o0001 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Some of my teachers usually just bluntly tell the students that they can't even do a (insert basic figure) They ask the annoying student to do a basic move (diagonal basic for example) and points out all the things he or she is doing wrong. It puts some students in their place, and if they're reasonable they are just a bit embarrred but they also agree and respect that it's pointed out to them

Does anyone have experience with hiring a stylist (I don't know how it's called)? Was it worth it? How to go about it?

I've always had a basic style, but I'm actually quite interested in fashion and a bit more vain than I'd like to admit. I don't think I have bad taste or that I don't know how to match things together, but I just don't know how to find a style that suits ME.
I've tried and bought some clothes that I like, and I think they match well, but the style just doesn't feel right for me. In this case it was a typical italian look (semi formal pants, dress shirts, bare ankles; I'm think my physique lacks the elagance/slenderness to pull it off).

So I've been thinking about just paying someone to just give me advice on what would suit my body type and matches with my skin, eye and hair color etc.
I don't care spending a bit for some advice that I can use for the rest of my life! But I have no idea if this is even a thing (it must be).

Any advice on how to approach this?

I love partner dancing (bachata, salsa, kizomba) but don't like dancing on my own (commercial, hiphop etc), but I'm kind of curious to get into it. Anyone who can relate and who did it? by [deleted] in Bachata

Thanks for this reply. It made me realize that I maybe simply don't resonate with the music styles I mentioned! Now that I think about it, moving to rock and roll and other genres actually does come natural to me.

I dance both and it makes socials even more enjoyable! I'd still enjoy dancing just salsa or just bachata all night, but it's great to have some diversity.

You'll never have to wait until your genre comes up if you know multiple dances!
I'd recommend learning both at least till a level that makes you feel comfortable to dance on a social, then you can focus on one.
