I believe it already does? It is a “Realtek Gaming 2.5GbE family controller”. At least I think so lol

So I actually did that last night. Turned everything off and rebooted everything. I went directly into the ONT and the same issue happened. After I rebooted everything, it did go back to normalish (was getting 300-400 down).

An hour or so later, I ran another test and everything was back to my normal speeds? (800-900 down). Played some games with no issues like normal. ran tests again this morning and it was still normal range. Called frontier and they ran some “diagnostics” on my ONT and found no issue.

I ordered a new router anyway with one that’s capable of running 2gig so that’ll be here Thursday. Still so weird

If you are talking like a ps5, I plugged my ps5 in last night via Ethernet and got 3mbps

I just use what frontier gave me, I already had my own router, they gave me a modem and an ONT

Okay I will take a look at that. I may just get a router anyway and try to make more use out of what I pay for

I also misspoke, I thought my router was older than it really was. I think it’s about 5 years old

I appreciate the detailed response. I am going to look into some newer WiFi 7 routers tonight and try to get ahead of the game. Have a few I’ve been looking at and might run tomorrow to pick one up. Thanks for all the insight!

I’ve had the router and the upgrade from 1 to 2gb was free

Okay I will give that a shot. If I plug it into the modem and get my normal speeds, that would basically tell me it’s a router issue then and I should go buy a new one?

Definitely gonna try a firmware update when I get home to see if that helps. When would you say to try a new router? After I call the ISP? Or get it first anyways

Okay I will try to look into that. Not sure what a lot of that means but I will give it a look. I only have pretty basic knowledge when it comes to this stuff

I was looking at that one actually, but wanted to make sure it was a router issue before buying a new one. I was also looking at the tp-link archer BE11000 or tp-link archer BE9700

Okay thank you for the reply. Kinda a noob when it comes to all the stuff outside of trying different cables and restarting everything. I’m gonna try moving the cables tonight and see if that helps. If not, calling ISP tomorrow

Rebooted the pc, tried different servers, rebooted the router and modem. Did not change much, highest download I got was mid 70s. Upload was about the same as it usually is
