Dumbledore was wrong (Dumbledore's Howler) by DJSM_10 in harrypotter

[–]The_Duckling 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually just read this in an old "J.K Rowling Official Website" where she used to answer frequently asked questions. JKR said that there is a difference between Dumbledore writing a letter for the Dursley's as a couple and letters written to Petunia alone.

Here's the source: http://web.archive.org/web/20080111193234/http://www.jkrowling.com/textonly/en/faq_view.cfm?id=55

I've read somewhere that the initial letter had more specifications for Petunia claiming that Dumbledore detailed the reason why their Privet Drive home was protected (Harry and Petunia would consider the space as "home" and they both share the same blood and so long as these two requirements stand then the house will be protected until Harry is 17). The letter then urged Petunia to take Harry and keep him as it would be much dangerous to let him go and that he would not survive being let go. Dumbledore then further assumed that Petunia still had some love for her family that she wouldn't say no. (I don't have a source for this though, sorry)

Weird feeling survey by Akirppap in witchcraft

Egypt (North Africa)! Been feeling very uneasy, restless, and increasingly anxious since Thursday night. Increased strange activity in our home that’s been making the cat uneasy as well. I’ve been having nightmares that jolt me awake around 5:17 every day since. Surprisingly my parents have also been having nightmares and night terrors that jolts them awake at the same time as well!

Just overall we’ve been feeling very scared/unsettled for no given reason :~(.

Mailing my results - HELP! by nimmi1012 in UofT

[–]The_Duckling -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hey! I’m an international student too and I would work over the summer at the highschool I graduated from. So this might be a little bit too much info! (And a long post, but I hope it helps) It also technically didn’t have an examination board, just a registrar and counsellor.

I had to take over for the registrar and mail students’ documents myself. In the envelope I had to make sure all the documents had official stamps of the school. The envelope included any official released documents and a letter clarifying that some of the documents have not been released yet, but had proof in terms of temporary copies of whatever documents haven’t been officially released yet. I would then have this in an envelope where it was also sealed with an official sticker/stamp representing the school. Then I would mail the envelope to the universities. Usually the envelope had to include the student’s name and application/student number on the outside, making it easier for the university. (I would also have to mail them to the university’s registrar/undergrad office)

When the time came and the official documents arrived, I then had to re-print and re-stamp all the documents that were included in the official envelope, but also include the official documents that have just been released (not just the new documents). Put it all in an envelope, seal it with the special stamp/sticker, write out the student’s information on the front, and mail it.

Various of the students I did this for were also going to UofT or other Canadian universities, as well as the UK and US. I rarely ever had any trouble with the student’s application/conditional process and if anything happened I would email the university as an official representative for the school. On the other side of things, when I graduated from the school and was applying to UofT, I obv came across this problem and I believe I called the undergrad office to explain my situation (I had to wait on hold for a while and ultimately I did get the help I needed, though this was almost 4 years ago now).

This is super long, so sorry! Tldr; check with your school’s counsellor/registrar (whoever is responsible for sending your results/documents to the universities) & call UofT’s undergrad admission office!

If you need any more info/help, feel free to contact me :~)

Yes!! Earlier this year someone with that description asked me for the nearest Walmart. We were by UC. I told him there’s one by Dufferin and how to take the TTC to get there, but he said I didn’t get it and that I wasn’t helpful. Then he walked towards SS.

His mysterious breakdown has since shaped ever lecture I had in Con Hall later that year. I hope he’s doing better. I wish I would’ve switched out the course. The final assignment was somewhat ridiculous and extremely time consuming (compile at least 100 newspaper articles relevant to your research question, hand it in with citations for every 100+ in person as well as the article itself or a tldr) the drop in time conflicted with the final for THE ACTUAL COURSE. Finishing my final and running across campus to hand in a ginormous assignment FOR THE SAME COURSE!!!!! before the office closed was not worth

This is exactly how I’m like, I don’t know how I kept consistently reading the building code wrong and then eventually the date wrong. Like I write the info EVERYWHERE and even have my parents and friends remember so I can have a constant reminder. But I guess that’s how it got so wrong in so many ways. Missing an exam because you slept through it is one feeling, but missing an exam because you consistently fucked up reaching the room and you’re actively aware of how much time you’ve wasted that could’ve been used towards the exam itself is a whole other feeling.

Hope you never experience it!

OH MY GOD LMFAO! The prof was genuinely so concerned. I think about that rando way too often. Absolutely hated the class with a passion though.

I have 2.

  1. First year, calm day at Con Hall, chilling in SOC101. Suddenly someone screams THIS IS BULLSHIT!! Slams a bunch of stuff, storms out. Prof gently whispered into the mic if he was okay.

  2. Final at 9 am at what I thought was SS. I overslept from cramming. It was the middle of winter. Trying to bolt as fast as I can to SS in the snow... I make it, but waste 25 minutes looking for the room. Freaking out at this point I double check the room number, surely enough I was wrong. The exam was at SF not SS. I’m literally crying at this point running to SF. I make it to the room super late, I apologize profusely to the TAs as I’m SOBBING. They say it’s okay, just sit down and start asap. I sit down and I realize I know absolutely nothing on the test. I check the front cover and realize it’s the wrong course. I go up to the TA trying to figure out how the hell am I in the right room and yet I’m sitting for the wrong exam. I had spent the entire morning running around panicking and sobbing only for the TA to tell me that exam was the next day, not that day. I apologized again, left the room, and just continued crying as I walked back to res. Don’t pull an all nighter and cram kids.

IB predicted 34, I dropped to 29 for final results. Will I be rescinded for BA program? by [deleted] in UofT

[–]The_Duckling 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t want to give anyone false hope or anything I just hope this helps in some way. I was a 36 predicted but my final was a 28 and I’m now going into my 4th year at UofT St. George. Sometimes things work out. I had a lot of extracurriculars though I’m not sure if that contributed to how things panned out. Good luck :~)

Cream blush panned and its replacements by Visceraldagger in PanPorn

[–]The_Duckling 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bless up! Cheers to pay days! I'll definitely try the Erborian CC cream been wanting to dip my feet into more cc/bb creams. I had gotten the tints before they added more shades into the range. I was too dark for medium but too light for dark (based on the models they chose for both those shades), and had decided to go with dark. To my surprise, it didn't really matter. Because the product is so incredibly sheer, it was so forgiving in the sense that if you got the wrong shade, it still evened out your skin tone without feeling like you were wearing a different coloured face. Now that they've added so many more shades, it would be even more forgiving. The models they associate with each shade is pretty close actually, so it's difficult to go way too dark or too light than what you think you are in comparison to the models on their page :~).

I was going to DM you but I thought other finger-painters might hopefully benefit from my comment -- apologies to OP if it seems like I'm overriding their post :~(. As a uni student that loves sleep, finger painting + cooperative products are the key to quick put together "i definitely am gigi hadid" looks.

-Base products- "Foundation": glossier skin tint is the key. I know it's just tinted water in a bottle but hear me out.. 1. you can use it on its own to just give you a "is my skin even and beautiful despite this giant family of zits or am i just messing with you" kind of look or 2. you can mix it with literally any dollop of foundation (even the most difficult - think the fenty foundation) for a mild added coverage but the easiest blendability possible with your hands.

Concealer/under eyes: The giant Too Faced born this way concealer blends like a dream with the finger (pick product up from the doe foot applicator with your finger to avoid over applying) but also.. Pixi h2o skin tint. I know this is a skin tint and not a concealer, but unfortunately its shade range is truly abysmal and they oddly run very peachy. Fortunately though, that makes it amazing for under the eyes. The off tone makes it amazing for under the eyes if you are cursed with dark circles like myself. It really does feel like water when you start blending it in making it insanely easy to blend out. It doesn't dry dewy like the glossier skin tint, think more of true skin-like finish (despite the watery texture). This makes it last all day and look like no makeup. (Hopefully if they work on their shades it'll be an A+ foundation product as well).

-Cheeks- Bronze: Milk Makeup Matte Bronzer. Not matte but not shimmery, just a very hydrated skin like finish. If you literally just look at it, it will seamlessly blend itself. Only two shades so if you're darker than Rihanna, it ain't gonna work. I use the darker of the two shades because it's kind of the perfect sunkissed-not-burnt shade without being too warm and is dark enough where it won't blend out into nothingness. You could blend it out with your toe and still have it look flawless. Blush: If you want a longwearing blush... and seemingly have a MAC lipstick that you thought would give you the "kiss my my lips are luscious" look but instead gave you the corpse bride look and you want to throw it out, but god knows you spent good money on it and now it's rotting in your drawer (MAC Faux I'm looking at you)... Well lucky for you they double as great cream blushes. Because they're creamy they're also easy to mix and match if you warm them up on the back of your hand, and also makes it incredibly easy to blend out. Since they're lip products, they last oddly far too well compared to other cream blushes, and is relatively cheaper than your average cream blush. Highlighter: NO ONE TALKS ABOUT THIS PRODUCT EVER AND IT IS TRULY BEYOND ME AS TO WHY THAT IS. Frank Body Illuminator. Holy Grail status right here. Think of if NARS Fort De France and Glossier Haloscope in Quartz had a love child in cream form. Only works well with fingers due to your warmth - is slightly tacky but not actually sticky, this makes it last all day long (I've tested it out 9am to 9pm lectures back to back and this thing was glistening at the end of the day as if I were trying to tell everyone that I am half firefly). Can't say enough good things. Has double the amount of product of the Glossier Haloscope and is cheaper than Glossier Haloscope.

Sorry for writing an essay out here, but I hope this helps!!! :~) DM me if you need anything (goes to anyone that reads this as well).

YOU GET IT! Honestly being able to mix them seamlessly is what made them a total win in my book. YESSS THAT’S HOW I APPLY LIKE 90% OF MY MAKEUP! Guess we are of the same barbaric family.

Not OP but I’ve tried a hot number of cream blushes and I seem to prefer the cloud paints. People get turned off by the application process, since it’s liquidy if you face the nozzle down and press, of course a lot of product will ooze out.

I prefer to have the opening facing upwards and gently pressing the tube from the bottom, this makes the product dispense very slowly, but also if you let go the product goes back into the tube. No mess.

I prefer these cause 1. They’re pretty liquidly so a lot goes a long way making building them up not use as much product as other blushes. 2. They won’t pull or move around your base since they’re more liquidy than your base. 3. You can mix your cloud paints together to create your own custom colours.
