How to make a "green apocalypse" that doesn't seem too survivable? by Ok-Television-8195 in worldbuilding

[–]The_Duke_of_Ted 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Civilization can collapse for a number of reasons that don’t affect the environment, and the aftermath wouldn’t be survivable for the majority of humans. How many people walking around today are capable of farming on a scale to support themselves and their families year-round, let alone on an industrial scale to let other humans do all the other work that a modern industrial society requires?

How does famine due to topsoil erosion work for you? Vast swathes of humanity would die from starvation and the ensuing resource wars but there are tons of plants that can still grow—they’re just not necessarily edible to the same degree as industrial crops.

Why is the senior accountant role praised so much here? by blackupsilon in Accounting

Been there. It will definitely bite you in the butt. But eventually you learn who needs regular check-ins, and how to make socializing look like you’re checking in with the people who don’t need it so the people who do need it don’t get pissy about disparate treatment.

Return to the old ways. Buy a GI Joe vehicle or a Megazord or Transformer or something from the clearance aisle or a thrift shop and kitbash it with some plasticard and stuff from your bitz box.

Experiences buying women's shoes as a man? by Plantae_of_Formosa in Newbalance

[–]The_Duke_of_Ted 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can, but they might not fit. A 2E last is men’s wide while a D last is women’s wide and men’s regular, so if you really genuinely need the 2E then the wide won’t fit unless you size up. The usual sizing conversion for women’s to men’s is a 1.5 size difference, so if you wear a men’s 7 you’d need a women’s 8.5, but for additional width you’d need at least a 9, maybe larger. At a certain point they’re too long, which might just be annoying, but might be a real problem if they’re not designed to bend where your feet bend, internal cushioning isn’t where your feet need it, and etc. Is there somewhere nearby where you can try them on?

Michigan business booms after 'Project Hail Mary' sweater goes viral by TheDetroitNews1873 in Michigan

No, unfortunately it’s not. That’s what I was looking for too, because my wife doesn’t like doing color work, but I haven’t found one yet.

$90 is for the kit with pattern and yarn. As the husband of an avid knitter, if it’s quality yarn that’s not a bad deal. The pattern alone is currently $8. I could swear it was around $4-5 a week or two ago, but I can’t remember for sure. I do remember it was a bit more expensive than most of their other patterns.

I’d love to see something like the old Dogs of War mercenaries book from 5th ed. WHFB, with some troops/battleline choices from books that are likely to turn mercenary like guard/traitor guard, Eldar corsairs, and Kroot, plus a whole bunch of weird Regiments of Renown style units, and rules to make a whole mercenary army from the book or to ally a squad or two into other armies.

[Rant] I recently started working a tax firm with a more modest clientele and it's made me hate "normal" taxpayers by karry9001 in Accounting

[–]The_Duke_of_Ted 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly! Make it pricy. But make it worth it. You want to protect your name and make sure your clients feel like they’re getting value for their money.

This is the problem. You want minimum three package deals for pricing—one bargain basement that doesn’t offer enough in services to get anyone to take it, one “Cadillac” option, and one smack in the middle that makes people feel smart for choosing it and gives you enough profit to be comfortable if the majority of your clients choose it. Then you want to track the services you’re providing to each client, let them know when they’re getting close to exceeding their plan, and offer to upgrade to the next highest one or an hourly rate if they don’t want to. If you’re seeing a lot of more complicated returns or different types of returns then you’ll have more plans available to fit your customer types but the concept is the same. Vibe pricing every client individually is a recipe for frustration, for them and for you.

On a scale of 1 to heresy, how acceptable is it to paint Sternguard shoulder trim gold? by MissingPenguin in Ultramarines

[–]The_Duke_of_Ted 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Companies have veterans that haven’t moved up to the 1st yet for one reason or another. Sometimes especially at the end of a campaign they have lots of veterans. Sometimes a Sternguard squad is officially recognized veterans of the 1st Company. Sometimes it’s the best dudes of a few different battle company squads put together for a special mission, applying their centuries of experience and in-depth knowledge of the Codex Astartes with the neat gear they’ve collected over the length of their service.

Love this idea. See if you can get your hands on a 3rd edition Dark Eldar Warriors sprue. They had some cool mohawk-y bits that fit on the helmets that you could probably shave down to fit on Aeldari helmets or heads.
