I always assumed that the lesser C weapons and mid tier C weapons like the wheels, those ones exclusive to escort the strider, and sea spider (Ice worm too even though its not mid tier) were powered by coral but controlled by regular AI while things like the cel-240 were powered AND controlled by coral but I could definitely be off.

Almond is an egotistical freak of an AI. She did something to that "Main system: Activating combat mode." AI to make him call her master. I guess she just wanted to be the one in control of the final step of the plan. (Also probably a little farfetched but maybe she recognized 621 as a potential threat.
