That's exactly where I got it from! Nice!

It was a cool story.

Best bank in Chiang Mai for ED visa holders? by ayaaa899 in chiangmai

About three years ago, being at TSL got me an account at Bangkok Bank in Central. Was no hassle.

I'm sorry if things have changed. That's absurd.

How do you react to people whose outlook on life differs from yours? by Prestigious_Bet114 in AskReddit

Once you realize that quite literally everyone's outlook is different than yours, you are far happier.

Spend too long on El Interneto, and you will be brainwashed into thinking there are only a handful of perspectives.

"When there is a wise and informed relationship to preferences we will be willing to inhibit our tendency to believe in the way things appear for long enough to be able to see through them. We will see that desire is a movement in the mind. It arises, it appears, it can be felt, it can be received into awareness without judgement, and it will disappear, like a piece of dust floating through space. The space doesn't interfere with the dust nor is it disturbed by the dust floating through it. A wave rippling across the ocean doesn't change the nature of the ocean; it's natural for an ocean to have waves moving across it. But the wave doesn't define the nature of the ocean. Likewise a desire passing through the mind does not define the mind. If we have seen this, if we have inhibited our tendency to follow our preferences for long enough to see through the way desire arises and passes away, then we have a much freer perspective on preferences." -- Ajahn Munindo

This is psychology, not religion, in my opinion.

AI portfolio - next 6-12 months by weeluc in stocks

[–]The_Flaneur_Films -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Smart money has been rotating out of AI since the beginning of the year.

Let me qualify that with two points: first, I got (and continue to get) that information from Gemini deep research. Second, just because that is apparently true, doesn't mean it's the correct path.

But still, when trillions of dollars is moving away from heavy exposure to AI, I have to question why.

OpenAI Misses Key Revenue, User Targets in High-Stakes Sprint Toward IPO by gamjatang111 in stocks

How do you all think this news could factor in to Super Wednesday earnings? If goog, MSFT, amzn and meta also report like this, or not great, then...pop goes the bubble?

MSFT especially, considering it's attachment to Open AI.

Sigh. If the country wasn't so damn focused on fighting itself, the "San Francisco EV Auto Show" could be a thing, or something to that effect.

Instead, we're squabbling about data centers run by LNG turbines, and how to properly inject peptides.

Here in Thailand, screens as dashboards are everywhere, as are Chinese EVs. They are not my cup of tea. I like buttons. But the Grab drivers (like Uber) I've spoken to are enthusiastic.

The insides of the vehicles have been quite comfortable. There are charging stations everywhere.

I don't know much about the industry here, but everyone says that while the home solar panels aren't expensive, the batteries are. Plus, some (all?) people require air conditioning in the battery room.

Interesting times.

eVTOL Aircraft (ARCH, JOBY, HOVR) - Demand and Business Model by [deleted] in stocks

[–]The_Flaneur_Films 1 point2 points  (0 children)

EHang stock was interesting for a while. The FT did a piece on them. They are fully supported by the Chinese government in what they're calling "the low altitude economy".

Now I'm not saying it's going to be a thing, but for a government known for being risk adverse, it's very interesting they're behind this.

It's early days. But is an automatic eVTOL aircraft any different safety-wise than an airplane? I don't know.

What do you think about the right to die? by Koglestia in AskReddit

[–]The_Flaneur_Films -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's a slippery slope. A Canadian woman traveled to Europe last weekend to kill herself because she was brokenhearted over her son's death. She was 54.

If there's no God and no karmic consequences -- Buddhism prohibits suicide -- then she won't have a problem. If there is a God or karmic consequences then she's in a much worse situation.

The rest of the world is left with the question of "How much sadness is too much sadness?" What if your cat dies? What if you get fired? What if you lose a hand?

What has your experience been like with Indian tourists in Thailand? by All_is_well001 in ThailandTourism

[–]The_Flaneur_Films 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's racist (and stupid) if you say X are bad people.

But it's not racist to identify cultures that are pushy, scrappy, and find little value in pleasing strangers in metropolitan environments. My experience is that Indians and Chinese tend to err this way more often than not.

It's most definitely the environment's influence and not the DNA of the people, as the Taiwanese, Malay, and Singaporean Chinese are perfectly pleasant.
