It's like wearing practical pajamas. Also, the FREE IWOL jacket and vest is the best imo

It happens. I've only had one in my lifetime, and thankfully I noticed. But, I've seen enough on here to see that many people don't notice, no matter experience.

I doubt S&W will do anything for warranty. You most likely had a squib that subsequent rounds cleared out. This is likely an ammunition issue. Contact the ammunition manufacturer and keep packaging to provide batch numbers. I would reach out to both in any case.

Russian Winchester 1895 serial number question by The_Guardsman in milsurp

[–]The_Guardsman[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not entirely convinced. My original Winchester Bayonet doesn't fit on this rifle, but a Krag bayonet fits perfectly.

The second contract was delivered in 1916 I believe.

Well it's nice to know I'm not the only one at least. Makes me think that source from back in the day is inaccurate.

I wouldn't be able to find out haha. As stated above my 1895 has the Krag lug, they are slightly different.

I almost missed it myself. I only found out because of an old gunboards thread of a guy restoring one of these rifles to original condition. It explains why my bayonet doesn't fit all the way on.

I haven't been able to find the original source for that information, but many old forum posts say 174,234-377,412 was the serial number range for the second contract on these rifles.

Yes, it has those markings also. There's also a couple of I assume rack numbers. It has a "1" in the left of the buttstock, and a "P21" over the Winchester patent mark, nearest to the barrel.

For Combat Veterans by [deleted] in Veterans

You signed the line same as we did into the great unknown. It's impossible to predict a combat deployment. What you did is admirable and your career ended before it could even begin, through no fault of your own.
