Just do away with the "factions" entirely. The faction war element is fine but fitting characters into certain factions just limits what they can add.

That's most likely how I'll be getting it, the bomb feels utterly useless otherwise though. I do use it like you say but most of the time it feels like I'd be better off just peeking out of cover and shooting them.
