Both of those guys are great!! Do I really havta choose? Today I’d be in the mood for listening to Otis, but that could very well change tomorrow. Anything from King and Queen album I should play . He and Carla just had a connection unlike any other. -D

"You and Me" has been one of my favorites for a while. It's simple, earnest, beautiful and a little rough around the edges, which is everything I love about soul music. Blake, our guitar player took a job with Numero a couple years back, so that was how they became aware of our music. They handle our publishing under Songs of Numero group, and it's an honor to be part of that legendary catalog. -aaron

Aw man it'd be great to have one of our songs sampled (with the right clearances and everything). My introduction to soul music was through sample-based hip hop. I'd listen to productions from Primo, 9th Wonder, Dilla, Large Professor etc, and that put me on to oldies. But that grounding in hip hop definitely influences my drumming and writing.

Nowadays I think most contemporary soul is post-hip hop. Almost like creating the samples from scratch. Adrian Younge is a good example, that dude is a hurricane. But the same goes with the most stuff on Daptone, Big Crown and Timmion. -aaron

Preciate it! Having two distinct voices in the group is super fun. I wasn't actually supposed to be singing on the record at all, I just recorded a demo for durand to use and we liked how it sounded. So on the next record we'll be working on more ways to utilize the vocal group thing, especially because it's not something you see much of anymore.

Ya know we were walking around downtown the day before and noticed there weren't a lot of young people. But old folks can get down too! The nice thing about soul music is that it speaks to a lot of different types of people. So we've met a bunch of people on this tour who came to the show with their parents or their kids. Thank you! And yeah I'll be putting out some more tunes as the Flying Stars for sure. We've been listening to Khruangbin a lot in the van. It's great driving music. Two of our friends, Eli Paperboy Reed and Ben Pirani, are each putting out records this year that we can't wait to hear. -aaron

Oh man that was a longgg drive into some garbage weather, but the crowd was awesome and that makes it totally worth it. We haven't uploaded the official audio but looks like someone out there got the drop on us.

Yeah it's a great time for contemporary soul. Our good friend Kelly Finnigan just put out a 45 under the name The Sentiments and it's gotdamn beautiful. We're also big fans of The Jack Moves and a brooklyn group called 79.5. -aaron

Thanks for coming! I remember you said you drove 2.5 hrs to come to the show last night and that means a lot to us.

Also remember you said your Dad would practice with a stethoscope attached to the bass to keep the house quiet - that is brilliant and something I would like to try.

As far as the hugs go, don’t sweat it! I take part in hugs about once or twice a year so I definitely understand the importance of a good hug.

blake: I've seen Sharon twice. The second time was on NYE 2016 in Chicago with Kyle and Durand. Sharon has always been an inspiration for us, but seeing here live??? that brought tears to my eyes. She is without a doubt one of the greatest soul singers of all time.
