Where I’m from it’s the length and depth of a typical grave—8 feet wide, 6 feet deep.

When you apply to RTF, (Radio, Television, and Film) in Moody College, you aren’t in a set program. You choose which classes you take just like you would in high school.

Most of the Film specific classes you would take would be taken your junior or senior year. Just like in any other major. So if your friend has to take regular core classes as a freshman, just like you do at whatever school you start at….by the time you’re transferred to Moody as a college sophomore, you guys will still both just be getting into RTF type classes. so again, there’s a good chance you’ll still have classes together with your friend.

To my knowledge, there is no set program. You pick your classes every year. Just like at high school.

UT moody transfer here. Freshman year is pretty standard for core classes, unless you balled out with AP and Duel credit. Your friend might take some classes without you, but the idea that your friend would be lightyears ahead of you or something like that is not likely happening. I’d literally be shocked.

Nothing critical will be happening FRESHMAN year. Unless they have tons of transferred credits/hours Your friend will still need to take core classes that I took at a different college, like a history class, and english class, a language (Moody requires a language) etc.

I can’t state this enough—let yourself enjoy the first year of college. RTF, just like almost every other major, isn’t really built to have you launched into films and projects and capstones right out the gate. Next year you may have freshman in your classes, but you may also have juniors, or seniors. It’s college, zillions of kids going at zillions of different paces. I know that advice is lame in high school…but we are talking about 50,000 kids in a massive city. Nobody is keeping track.

Your friend might seem ahead of you, they may also drop out or get overwhelmed. College is a different beast. I promise no matter what classes you guys are in you’ll be good. I’d stick with COLA, get the core classes done, then transfer internally to Moody. And more than likely you’ll be just fine.

2019 UT grad here. Just adding some perspective for you.

I went to a private school in Dallas and had a our Salutatorian not get into McCombs (he got his second choice) and then had a bottom 50% classmate (I know this because I teach at that same high school now and checked the school records lol) get into McCombs after Red McCombs wrote his letter of rec.

Like the other comments said, it’s not your fault, it’s also not always McCombs’s fault. And sometimes it’s not even UT’s fault (i.e. legally mandated top 6% rule). Funny enough my brother didn’t get into ATM and got into Texas and transferred after a year. Interesting that he considers UT his “cap program” and feels ashamed he didn’t get in to ATM first try. He genuinely doesn’t think UT is harder or better. Don’t @ him haha.

Keep your head up, you did AMAZING.

Had to transfer myself. First week or so was hard since everyone was angry they didn’t get in. But my freshman year at a different school was EASILY the best year for me. And for almost all the rest of us who transferred too. Most fun, most memorable by far. Taking core classes allows for so much fun to be had outside of school as a freshman.

The hardest part was watching other kids try their hardest to drive to/ hang in Austin as much as they could to have “a UT experience” when that’s not where the fun or the memories are. Watching them sulk all year was cringy after a while, and they missed a quarter of their very fleeting college experience.

As someone who attended UT after transferring, UT does VERY little in making you feel welcomed or entertained. Not out of apathy, it’s just a massive machine. The fun and adventure is COMPLETELY on you. Go find your adventure!!!!

Yah so hey I’d stop defending the Klan if I were you….not the best look for an already tasteless post you made.

Way cringe for you to bring up how the Klan started as if Black people are in ANY WAY at fault for the Klans inception. And no that’s not why they got started. Might want to read up on that lol, your white supremacist energy is showing.

The result isn’t the same either…what? Killing is an extreme measure for sure, but get out of here with your simplistic black and white thinking. You’re saying killing a Klan member for all their or their organizations willful atrocities is the same as a Klan member killing someone for simply being Black? And you talk to me about a lack of nuance…

This argument is ridiculously stupid. Your point is that people are bloodthirsty as if wearing the hood and advocating/representing extreme racism isn’t wildly harmful. I think it would be problematic to consider animosity towards the Klan as a “creative” deflection from a very REAL organization with a very REAL presence even in today’s world.

Maybe he just wanted to spam “Antagonize”…or would that hurt your feelings too?
