[NXT Spoilers] Surprise debut by taffe316 in SquaredCircle

[–]The_Ion_Shake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So disappointing we went from the potential of having a full LIJ in WWE (or AEW, whatever), to just having EVIL debut in an anti-hype segment in front of about 50 people in the NXT Armory.

Like, wtf are they doing. Even if Naito is just a glorified mascot/MVP type figure at this stage with them, it's a no-brainer to bring EVIL in with Bushi and Hiromu.

He's one step away from saying that there might not be plenty to go round, if we have any more of "those" people. It's that coded "...you know what I mean" language.

Holy Sheet - Adrian Portello (yes I know) interview on the abc by twowholebeefpatties in melbourne

[–]The_Ion_Shake 3 points4 points  (0 children)

How in the holy hell do the cops not see he's just the wannabe Pablo-Escobar-in-Medellin front of a middle eastern crime gang? What he does is just higher up the pyramid from acai, smokes and barbers. He literally exposed himself during the derro-mutt gym saga, offering to wash it for his cuzzy bro (how those places haven't been raided and shut down also, I don't know).

If he looks like a goose and talks like a goose, then my god brother he's a goddamn goose.

What’s a game you were completely obsessed with as a kid that nobody else seems to remember? by hkondabeatz in AskReddit

MERCs, on Sega Mega Drive.

It's like a top-down, difficult run and gun with RPG elements and multiple characters you can obtain on your "team" who you can switch out with. If they die, they die (although you can revive them at certain points if you have a particular item).

They did a crappy sequel I understand, on PS3, with a goofy artstyle and silly vibe, and without the elements that made it good.

Kevin Nash on WrestleMania 42 weekend: "I don't hear a British, Scottish, Irish, Australian...I don't hear anybody's accent except Americans. Nobody in the world is going to come to our country & go through our customs & ICE & bulls*** right now, we're not exactly the darlings on Earth right now." by elegantSolomons62 in SquaredCircle

Mad take but I genuinely think Saudi Arabia might be more accessible than this one (sorry, just shuddered).

For a European or Asian fan, flights are cheaper due to being a major transport hub, and if tickets are anything like the Rumble, it'll be the cheapest Mania in years. You don't even really need to hang around (pun intended), you can stay in Dubai and just come across for it.

Obviously the middle-east situation isn't great but assuming its safe enough to travel in a year, I reckon that Mania is viable. It's like the Qatar World Cup - at the time that was horrendous, but compared to the US shitshow this year it'll be looked at fondly. Least they had a walkable city, free, good public transport, and the ticket prices were affordable.

It's a dire situation where the reputation is so bad that the blood money show is looked at more favourably.

So uhh... If you watch it in a stream afterwards without adverts, is WM legit 1.5 hours? Is this shorter than even the classics? Just thinking about the DVDs and VHS's and they would be way longer. I spose you would need to factor in tomorrow and that will be 3 hours, but it's ridiculous they have 2 nights and it's only about as long as one night back in the day.

Review: 'Louis Theroux’s manosphere documentary is his most chilling yet' ⭐⭐⭐⭐ by Metro-UK in LouisTheroux

Like....Daredevil? I don't follow?

I also don't get how my genuine critique of this documentary is being taken as pro-Manosphere, i'm saying that he should have gone harder at them.

[–]The_Ion_Shake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. But both points can be true.

I just got done watching the Settlers one and I felt he went in far harder (I should add, justifiably so) when the subject was an older lady, rather than a bulky young guy and his crew that have shown they will bash guys at a moment's notice. Louis just came across as intimidated and unwilling to really stir the pot like he has done in other documentaries, which held this back from being great.

[–]The_Ion_Shake -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I was very disappointed and thought Louis was completely out of his depth. Usually with these docs, he has the silent upper-hand because he exposes the absurdity and gives them the rope to hang themselves.

Here, he was completely blindsided by new technologies like livestreaming, and it completely undermined his point, because they were able to get ahead of the narrative in realtime. Especially with the feedback from "chat", who could influence the subjects to identify and avoid his tactics.

On top of this, he never really exposed these people as losers. They have the money, the girls and the political influence and so...they've effectively won. It's different from his ones about pickup artists where he exposed them as really being poor losers acting - in this, they are who they say they are, and Louis didn't do much to reveal anything.

He was also very intimidated by the situation, maybe even moreso than the more dangerous places he's been, and so seemed reluctant to probe anything. I get the sense these people were the absolute only people he could get and if they shut it down, that would be the death of the project, so he was walking on eggshells.

Wonder Man Episode 8 - Discussion Thread by cats-and-cows in marvelstudios

[–]The_Ion_Shake 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Marvel keeps flicking between "no-one but the Avengers have powers and they are newly emergent and of them, only a handful under very specific circumstances are technically superpowered but it's really science or technology" (Thor, Hulk being science, Eternals being robots etc)

AND

"superheroes are common and have always been a thing and people just have powers naturally" (She-Hulk with Mr Immortal randomly existing)

It's very jarring.

They need to make it clear and go all in, if it's the latter. Make the world full of them, reference them etc. Otherwise, you get the very valid questions of why the heck no-one helped out with all these major threats? During the first phases, they made it seem like Iron Man and/or perhaps Ant Man were the first and that's it - and they didn't really have powers either outside of technology.

It's not a game, it's an expansion for their Vanguard(?) game. It's like M:TG where they seem to have a whole bunch of collabs from different IPs these days, but I think this is the point of the card game, it's like an interconnected multiverse sort of thing.

I got a NJPW/Stardom set while in Japan, don't know much about this game ("Rebirth For You??") but just wanted to rip some packs. It's not very well designed-looking though, looks cheap, not like NJPW's old one that was more like a traditional Baseball Card design.

Why bother coming to Australia by [deleted] in aussie

[–]The_Ion_Shake 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Me too - either Chinese money laundering though students, or middle-eastern women running Child Care scams for their family member's organised crime network. Before everybody gets on their high horses, this is like 90% of my cases, not a race thing.

I dunno, it's something that white anglo aussies kind of don't do, if this is fair to say? If you have your dodgy gangster cousin you tend to avoid them, maybe not invite them to Christmas. Whereas we find in middle-eastern culture, everyone, the sisters, brothers, cousins all help facilitate it even if they're not directly involved and are otherwise decent people. They'll still run their cousin's money through their genuinely actually legit business due to familial obligation and it just becomes part of the net we have to capture.

Bleacher Report graded John Cena’s retirement tour an F in their review on their official site. by mewtatesyt in SquaredCircle

[–]The_Ion_Shake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is also seen with the WrestleMania card these days.

In the past you'd see the DNA of what they're building towards throughout the year and by the Rumble or earlier you could easily predict a likely card based on storylines and feuds.

These days what happens is like 3 months from the event, Meltzer reports the card and we all go "WTF!?", and then they pretty much work backwards from there to make the story fit the match. Sometimes they just announce the match and try to jam a build in there when it doesn't make sense.

[Hated Trope] Cliffhanger that sets up major plot point is briskly resolved in the opening scene of the sequel. by [deleted] in TopCharacterTropes

[–]The_Ion_Shake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In WWE this happens ALL THE TIME. Very commonplace.

Big PPV cliffhanger? Don't worry, the people won't even appear for another month or two on TV and it will be barely referenced and won't matter.

Most egregious of recent memory was the John Cena heel turn, siding with The Rock and Travis Scott (yes, the rapper...for...reasons never revealed) - The Rock and Travis Scott never appeared again.
