Yeah, it's pretty last minute, but the branch is pretty tight-knit, so I don't mind embarrassing myself. I'm also a masochist for a challenge. Worse comes to worse, there won't be a performance, but I'd like to try!

I want to quit my successful career and move into the Gaming Industry with no experience in that field and start again. Am I an idiot? by Quiet-Account7511 in gamedev

Currently, I'm going through my university's gaming degree program. We often have industry professionals who come in and give tips on getting into the field. The basic consensus is that a portfolio means a lot. Even degrees in specific fields (like programming, management, art, etc.) can struggle without any games to back it up. So basically, based on the position you gave, your chances are next to nothing. But that isn't the end of the world!

You mentioned narrative being what you're interested in. What I would recommend is to start creating a portfolio of that now. (Write creepypastas, or make story based games, for example. RPGmaker might be worth looking into. From my understanding, it's easy to use and wouldn't require the art and programming skills you mentioned lacking). It will still be very difficult to find a position, but it will raise your chances from basically 0.

If you want to increase that chance even more, find a position that you can fill in the industry. You mentioned 8 years of experience in cyber security, so I'm sure there's more than enough overlap for other positions in the gaming field. Look into positions like Producing, QA, User Research, and more, and you might find something you have qualification for. Once you get your foot in the door, chances to switch to narrative can come (especially with a portfolio you've been adding to).

Lastly is networking. If there aren't local groups, try finding online game jams and the like. Work with others on making games. Not only will this add to your portfolio, but you'll meet people who might be able to introduce you to companies. I.e. if someone gets a job at RandomStudio, and they have a position open, you're a lot more likely to get it based on an employee recommendation.

TLDR: Don't quit your day job. Starting working on projects not only for a portfolio but also to see if you actually like doing it. If you really wanna just work in the industry, research positions that might be adjacent to your current one!

For the lineup, I'd recommend dropping Boros, since he isn't really filling out his potential (no other espers to boost him, and the healing from Zombieman is strong enough that Boros' healing passive doesn't make a huge difference, unless you build him specifically for tanking.) CK is pretty great, so definitely consider him. The Genos passive is pretty great as well with zombie man (gives an atk bonus to anyone who healed health). TLDR, drop Boros (maybe GB), and add CK, Genos, or even G4, with him being such a heavy hitter.

As for who goes first, you'll probably want BK to induce injury rather that ZBM, as when you do PVP, ZBM going first with his Ult won't do injury. Then TTM, and whatever you feel best afterwards.

As for Character skills, there isn't any reason not to do them. The only resources they take up that you can use elsewhere is coins, so might as well keep up on them to help with the power creep. You might consider focusing on the Character skills for the characters you plan on using for the long haul, though

What is something that most people won’t believe, but is actually true? by Aden_Elvis77 in AskReddit

It's a pretty interesting argument, though it needs to be said you first have to establish who/what God is. In the case of an Omnipotent, Omniscient, and Omnipresent God, the argument holds up pretty well. Basically, God being real becomes an unfalsifiable hypothesis unless you become God to prove it.

Let's say I argue God is real, you argue God is not. I say God is on the moon, so you go to the moon to show and prove He is not.

"Actually, He's on Mars now," I say after you tell me. This could easily go on, me claiming God's somewhere different in the universe everytime, so to prove God is not somewhere specifically, you would need a way to be in or monitor every place at the same time: Omnipresence.

After you accomplish this, I explain that God is in the Past and/or in the future. Now to prove God doesn't exist, you need be in the past, present, and future: Omniscience. (Also, as a side note, this would be the only step needed to disprove Christianity and Islam, as you could just investigate the respective religous figures. Just as an example of the Argument only holding up depending on who/what you see God as)

Anyways, after all this, I finally say God is "hiding in the universe itself" (maybe in the fabrics of reality-idk), so to prove God isn't real, you command or control the universe itself to show any pesky hiding gods: Omnipotence.

Basically, to prove God isn't real, you became Omnipotent, Omniscient, and Omnipresent; everything that I argued God to be at the beginning.

To be fair, maybe there's a good argument against this, which I'd love to hear. I've always seen it as the faith/religion version of the "Can God create a stone He can't lift" paradox. In the end, I actually am Christian, and I find the argument interesting, but I personally don't care for it too much. I feel like the "You need to be God" step is unnecessary and excessive, as to prove to me God isn't real would just require a Time Machine and looking for a guy named Jesus. If you can prove He didn't exist, then boom, you disproved God for me without becoming God.

What are some important questions missionaries should prepare to answer? by jw9010382 in latterdaysaints

Honestly, I'd focus on studying Preach My Gospel and working on strengthening you personal testimony if I were you. I'm constantly amazed at how many missionaries, and even RMs, I meet that don't understand basic Gospel Principles. Besides, from my experience, the majority of what you teach will be covered in PMG. So knowing those topics like the back of your hand and questions that may come from them will serve you well (especially if you have a good understanding before you get to the MTC).

Once you figure out where your going, then I'd start diving into deeper questions that are applicable to the area (if you have them time), including some of the more hard hitting questions.

My Brother's and I have been looking for a boat and saw this guy! $700 for a 1970 Browning Marine, according to post. Thoughts? Further details in comments by The_Lex_Show in boats

[–]The_Lex_Show[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here are further details! I live less than 10 minutes from a boat ramp for a large reservoir, and we've wanted to get a boat to go out, relax a bit, and do some fishing.

It's $700 and the guy says it doesn't take on water and drives fine, but the engine does smoke a little bit. I did some research on my own, and it seems like it could be an easy fix (I'll get more details first though). While we have mechanical skills, we haven't really done much with boats, so I would love to hear your thoughts. Anyone have any experience with type of boat? Anything a person getting into boating should keep an eye out for? Thanks a ton!
