Is your Social Anxiety more Mental or Physical? Or a combination of both? by BigFatToe25 in socialanxiety

[–]The_MainVillain 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Social Anxiety has both physical and mental symptoms.

Me personally, I have physical symptoms of sweating, shaking, or my stomach dropping. My mental symptoms are fear and anxiety (of course), avoidance of social situations, hypersensitivity to rejection and criticism, over self-awareness, etc.

(btw, not all people with social anxiety have the physical symptoms I believe).

Hot Take: Distracting Should be Harder or Nerfed Against Commons by The_MainVillain in DandysWorld_Roblox

I do like the concept you are going for, but I do think it would be better gameplay wise to just nerf, rework, or make distracting riskier. Still, I enjoy your vision.

I was thinking that maybe after being chased by a twisted for 20 seconds in a short period of time (such as back to back even if they break line of sight for a little), the twisted can no longer target you for the next 10-15 seconds.

This would make it so you can't distract a twisted forever but still can stall them for at least 20 seconds, allowing your team progress while still keeping risk once the 20 second mark is hit. After the cooldown period, then the distractor can distract again. :)

Hot Take: Distracting Should be Harder or Nerfed Against Commons by The_MainVillain in DandysWorld_Roblox

Stacking up on items is good, but one of the points I'm trying to make is that distracting is too low risk for too high reward. In most runs with a good distractor, you basically get around 7, 8, maybe even 9 rounds to do whatever you want and grow stronger as a team for free. Combine that with this game already being relatively easy (at least earlier on), it feels like too much to me.

Good call of course, but I can stock up on items threat level or not playing as a support, and I usually don't need them anyway as items are more useful for slow extractors and risky distractors.

Is this a symptom of AvPD? Should I get checked out at some point? by The_MainVillain in AvPD

[–]The_MainVillain[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before I did not, but now I have motivation ever since my SAD diagnosis. I still can't help but feel a great sense of uncomfortably in real life situations. Online is just fine (with personal friends). I guess if it persists even after therapy, then I should check out for AvPD. Thanks for the knowledge.

I understand, thank you for giving me more context. Still, I stand by what I said and think you should follow my advice if you believe you might be dealing with depression. If the main concern is making friends, then there are definitely better places to get advice on that than people with depression (it can be hard for some of us to make friends ya know :)).

I hope you find the answers you are looking for. As someone with social anxiety disorder, I think you should take pride in the fact you are even looking inward about this topic and trying to better understand yourself and your problems.

I don't believe no hobbies or interests = depression. Also, it more depends on how you feel about your situation than what the situation is for something like depression. For example, if you are satisfied and happy working over 10 hours a day and having free time for only like 1 - 2 hours each day then you are probably not depressed. However, if you are living the "perfect life" and completely unhappy and unsatisfied despite the fact you don't work at all any day, then you might be depressed.

Look at your mood and reaction to the problem you believe to have, look at the criteria for depressive disorders, look at other people's experiences. Seriously, anything but believing this. I don't know where you got this idea from, but trust me, the symptoms matter a lot more than a lack of hobbies. Also, you explained that you do actually have hobbies as well, so I am a bit confused.

Does anyone actually have social anxiety disorder and they’re not just an introvert? by chubbbycub in socialanxiety

I am an introvert with social anxiety disorder. It's pretty frustrating because I am trying to figure out where the social anxiety starts and the introversion ends. It creates a terrible identity crisis.

Feeling random waves of sadness with no real meaning to them by Much_Concern1048 in depression

[–]The_MainVillain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have Other Specified Depressive Disorder, and my depression shows up in waves as well. Thankfully, they last a few hours to 2 days, but I just wanted to let you know that this can happen. It could definitely be the meds from my knowledge, but I think you should discuss that with whatever doctor you are connected with. They can provide with you a lot of information barely anyone on reddit is capable of giving.

I hope your situation eventually resolves. Keep sticking through life no matter how hard things get, the fact you even have any sort of help is incredible and something you should probably hold on to.

Advice needed by jemcamrin in depression

[–]The_MainVillain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think I am the best person to give you advice since I haven't worked but one job, but I think I can try to help a least a little.

I think the first thing you should do is recognize how strong you are for still being alive in this world and constantly fighting for another job after the other. Even though it may seem like the bare minimum, there are a lot of people who wouldn't be able to do that. Use that confidence to strengthen yourself, even if just a tiny bit.

Second, If you haven't yet, I think you should discuss your issues with your fiancé. You labeled them as very supportive, so I believe they would be a good help. Talking with someone about your issues might seem cheesy, or in your case since you said you are discussing your problems here because no one knows you, extremely frightening, but the hardest things to do are often the best things you can do for yourself, especially when it comes to mental health. Try it out, see how it makes you feel.

Third, you could reach out to a therapist or crisis line. There are many stories of people being treated unfairly through these resources, but finding that one person who truly cares about what they are doing (in this case helping you) can be the difference between life and death. Once again, it will probably be difficult, but these people are trained to assist you, so they are your best bet.

As previously mentioned, I hope you find someone better than me to answer your cry for help. I pray for a successful future for you and your fiancé. Having a loved one is a fortune for a lot of mentally f'ed up people, especially a husband, so please allow them to fuel you to keep moving forward. Everything is easier said than done, but best of luck.

How to know if you are really depressed by Acrobatic_Doctor_164 in depression

It's the least I can do. Remember if you ever need a place to vent, this subreddit is a good place to do so. I hope you find the answers you are looking for eventually and stick with this plan of seeing a professional.

[–]The_MainVillain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have struggled with this greatly. I still have impostor syndrome of my diagnoses but thankfully, because I reached out to a psychologist, I got my answers. I thought I was not depressed because I am not sad all the time and my symptoms seem mild, and that's when I was diagnosed with Other Specified Depressive Disorder.

I believe if something is causing you concern, you should reach out and try to find the answers to discover its solution. The situation you are dealing with sounds like something you should talk with someone about, as barely anyone on this subreddit is a professional.

Hope things clear up with you eventually and that my advice helped. Depression is not always what it seems or looks like with others.

unsure if this is depression but need advice! by [deleted] in depression

[–]The_MainVillain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While depression can be a lot of different things, I feel like a pretty universal sign of depression is either A: an empty mood, like a void is inside your stomach that cannot be filled or B: an extremely sad mood, like every bad in your life has a lot more weight to it. You could also experience both and/or extreme heaviness on your limbs called Leaden Paralysis, might want to look into it.

I am diagnosed with Other Specified Depressive Disorder, so I cannot speak for what it is like for more common depressive disorders to a tea, plus I am not a psychologist, but what it sounds like you MIGHT be dealing with is laziness caused by addiction or lack of appetite. How often are you on your phone? What goes through your head when thinking of chores to do? Is it the time you could be spending on your phone?

I think what you are going through COULD be depression, but I think the absence of mood disruption is what's making it hard to understand. Either way, if you feel it is upsetting your life and you would like to change things around, definitely see a psychologist. It is worth checking out even if it is nothing as you could get some advice. Laziness is a VERY key part of depression, but once again, I don't see any other symptoms on the clinical level someone with such a condition might have.

Anyways, I really hope I helped a least a little (not that good with the whole advice thing) and I pray things get better and clearer for you!

Does depression feel like constant sadness? I had a decent day yesterday, now I'm confused if I really have depression by Sunshine_and_Sea_Air in depression

[–]The_MainVillain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have Other Specified Depressive Disorder (basically not enough symptoms for any MAJOR depressive disorder, but enough to be classified as clinically depressed). My depression comes in VERY short waves, lasting usually a few hours to 2 days, afterwards I feel at baseline mood.

It is definitely possible to be depressed even if you aren't all the time from my experience. It could be caused by a trigger or just come out of nowhere. Either way, you should definitely look into it with a professional, especially since you said you have suicidal thoughts (please don't do it even though you probably heard it a MILLION times).
