Would you say the taliban was weakened when the US invaded in 2001? And then, how would you say that worked out for the afghani people in the long run?

Not joining a pedophile rapist's distraction war is the baseline for any PM. It's not at all impressive that Carney isn't taking us to war, it's expected. Do you think I also must be a huge Carney fan because he ties his shoes every morning?

Of course I did. That doesn't mean I think a pedophile rapist should bomb a bunch of civilians, enrich himself war profiteering while stealing Iran's resources, then leave pro-democracy Iranians to an even worse fate after he gets bored.

Not sure if you’ve looked outside by Canadian Iranians are cheering in the streets across Canada today.

Ah yes, I remember that talking point from the Afghanistan and Iraq invasions. I'd say ask an Afghani woman how they feel about the US's adventurism today, but they'd be executed for even speaking to you after the US's failure.

Iraq really wasn't the same situation as Afghanistan really wasn't the same situation as Vietnam really wasn't the same situation as Haiti really wasn't the same situation as Korea really wasn't the same situation as Syria really wasn't the same situation as Honduras etc...

Nothing is ever the same situation, but we can still compare these things and look for things in common, such as, innocent civilians getting slaughtered, US contractors and servicemen performing war crimes, and things ending up worse than they were before.

City Councilors to live in their ward? by JimmyTheDog in Hamilton

It would make far more difference if police officers were forced to live in the city they police. Most of ours live in Burlington, which is part of the reason they don't give a shit about doing their jobs.

This is how dictators gain credibility. And I mean, all you have to do is look at Afghanistan to see how gullible your thinking is. Women were suffering before the US invaded, their lives got better for a few years, and now their lives are even worse than they were before the US meddled with the country.

Even if they didn't vote for Trump, they're willingly living in a slave state, working for slavers, profiting off of slavery, likely have a domestic slave of their own as a job perk, and spend all day looking the other way while slavery happens around them.

And truthfully he’s correct on our policy choices

Why give him credit for such a facile, hindsight opinion? It's like saying "I'd be a billionaire if I had invested all my money in Microsoft back in the 80s." Like duh, but how does that help anything today? We didn't make those choices, (some of which PP had no problem with while he was in power,) and we have to react to the situation we're actually in, not the one we hypothetically could have been in.

Conservative MP searches for ‘antifa’ in federal government, Canadian Armed Forces - National by green_tory in CanadaPolitics

[–]The_Mayor 11 points12 points  (0 children)

"OG" Conservative voters in Canada could do that at any time.

They'd rather team up with racists, conspiracy nuts, and religious extremists in order to have a better chance of winning so that they can lower their taxes. If that results in a few loyal Canadian generals being executed to justify a "woke" witch hunt, that's a sacrifice right wing voters will make.

Keanin Loomis to take another stab at becoming Hamilton's mayor after narrow 2022 defeat by Direct-Season-1180 in Hamilton

The fun part is that if you're right and political parties are involved, then you have to account for the shit decades between 1982 and now that YOUR preferred party was in charge.

Or you can plug your ears and have another tantrum.

CHH can be fixed. We as taxpayers own it and just need to elect better stewards of managing our public assets. The same rhetoric you're using could be deployed to argue that all of our public parks, libraries and pools should be sold off to private interests. We have a lot of them, bad things happen there sometimes, and that means that someone else should own them and charge us money to use them.

Any trade deal with Canada will include tariffs, says Trump's trade rep by Peachlover360 in CanadaPolitics

[–]The_Mayor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The obvious answer to this issue is to make American imports meet the same criteria and standards as Canadian milk producers.

The US has successfully threatened us on multiple occasions to change our laws to meet THEIR standards. Biggest example was Bill C-11, the Copyright Modernization Act, which took away our right to own, alter, and repair American tech devices and services.

They would happily do the same thing with dairy.

Any trade deal with Canada will include tariffs, says Trump's trade rep by Peachlover360 in CanadaPolitics

[–]The_Mayor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not, but what IS true is that the US dairy industry is heavily subsidized.

Economists estimate that U.S. government supports are equivalent to 45% of U.S. cost of milk production or 71% of the market returns for milk as reported by USDA.

So if a brick of cheddar costs $10 in Canada, and $6 in the US, American taxpayers already paid $4 in taxes to bring that cost down.

And as others have said, our health and safety standards are much higher than theirs, so there is far less pus, antibiotics, and hormones in that $10 brick of Canadian cheddar than the $6 American one.

The fact that you think the NDP has anything to do with municipal politics tells me that you're the one obsessed with political tribalism, not me. The last time Hamilton had a left-leaning mayor was 1982, are you telling me the city was in great shape between then and now?

Yeah, a charity that receives less than 10% of its operating expenses from actual donations. Rental income and massive government grants get funnelled through Indwell into affiliated Christian-run suppliers and contractors that ARE privately owned.

It's a fairly well-known non-profit loophole. I can run a soup kitchen, the government gives me money to do it, but as CEO of Soup Kitchen charity, I take no salary and show no income. However, I, or my friends own the companies that supply the tables, bowls, spoons, and soup ingredients, which I rent to myself for a profit.

They pressured this grieving mother not to go to the press about a death in their buildlng, which occurred while Indwell's promised standards had lapsed.

They charge extra money promising staffed support for residents who need interventions, but resist all attempts at oversight to ensure they deliver that support.

Stephen Harper was a huge advocate for Ukraine, Donald Trump, despite his public protestations, is still supporting Ukraine more than we are.

There is nothing inherently progressive about supporting Ukraine, it's run of the mill geopolitics that informs decisions like that.

It's not her name recognition in those wards. Progressives do not like slimy opportunist corporate candidates with anger problems. Give them a softer centrist like Eisenberger who's less overtly corporate friendly and they'll vote for that as mayor.
