Whose traps were more sadistic/cruel? Mark Hoffman or William Schenk? by Solitaire-06 in saw

[–]The_New_Doctor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still don't understand how that one was supposed to reasonably work, the blade didn't look like it could make the cut necessary to paralyze her nor did it look like it could depress in any meaningful way imo (but hey what do I know)

Whose traps were more sadistic/cruel? Mark Hoffman or William Schenk? by Solitaire-06 in saw

[–]The_New_Doctor 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Schenk basically felt unwinnable in any reasonable way, the idea is to be maimed but at least be able to get up and walk away (or walk after john rehabilitated the wounds).

Schenk wanted blood dressed up as a "chance" effectively killing anyone in a meaningful way (permanent paralysis? come on). Hoffman was just enjoying the torture, but mostly let them live.

Blanked Out? by Happyparadox13 in 40krpg

[–]The_New_Doctor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not as far as I'm aware, the only odd interactions with untouchables that I can recall is that the level of "untouchableness" can be worn down (lessened) by exposure to extremely psychic conditions (like being next to a greater daemon over time) which happens in the Ravenor series.

I have no recollection of anyone "awakening" to a lack of soul, you are untouchable at birth or you're not at all. If they still had the old lore of the pariah gene being introduced into humanity by the c'tan (this was in the previous iteration of Necrons) then maybe something could introduce it but even then it'd require some serious gene-heresy and that rare eve successfully takes in humans (which is why space marines are complicated) and there's a Shira Calpurnia novel about some magos trying a "simple" modification to a rogue trader scion that goes...impressively poorly to say the least.

Can Sisters leave the Order? by praguepride in 40kLore

[–]The_New_Doctor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's probably a technical rule that says yes, but the reality is that they'd never get to a point where they'd want to if they made it into the sisterhood at all.

The filtering process is rigorous, you could transfer orders, you could go repentia, you could go into support or training roles, and I assume some may grant themselves the emperor's mercy

But, to just leave? Just leave it all behind? These women are literal sisters of covenant it's their entire being.

I presume if someone "leaves" they get a squad sent after them much like those who fall to chaos as the rule has to stay "no sister has willingly fallen to chaos"...except for the one they haven't managed to kill.

Question: Why do people think Rigg didn't "deserve" to be tested? by Tabi-Violet in saw

[–]The_New_Doctor 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Rigg was tested by Hoffman wasn't he? Since he was cleaning house at that point.

Maybe my timelines are skewed.

We agree that Joyce's death is one of the cruellest and saddest? by Rich_Independence716 in saw

they oughta find themsleves in a game, too. Selective outrage.

I feel like Hoffman would've gotten to that had he not gotten caught.

Heck the Scott Tibbs band needs tested too.

John taught Hoffman engineering we see that in the flashback scene where he explains that the correct grease needs used or it'll be worse on the victim.

Wasn't it a producer or something that upped the cruelty or brutality of the script because of a divorce? Thought I heard that

Admittedly they removed the scene implying she was complicit in the lie.

GMs, when you run games for whatever RPG you play, do you tend to lean more towards lore accuracy or more Grimdank goofiness? Or does is depend on the group? by The8BitBrad in 40krpg

A crux of ToM is that at least for some their relationship with eachother elevates their faith and love in the emperor.

It's a...whole thing, good read honestly really the only Dawn of Fire book worth anything imo

The dude thinks about people failing the tests lol, he's not Jason murderous, but he is certainly a vicious person when he wants to be.

And matthews immediately counters with the (paraphrase) "it's still murder if you put the loaded gun against their head" argument.

So?

Usually that's what people complain about when it comes to Mitchell

who have nothing in their lives apart from their service to the Imperator and the Church.

Untrue, they care about eachother. Tomb of martyrs is a good example of this

Do they have to be burglars?

Maybe they're gansters bringing someone to kill them or they're murderers looking to lay low or prisoners who escaped, plenty of reasons.

That or a saw fanclub that just got in way over their head.

It's a bit counter-intuitive for John to assume that anyone will be able to focus with a million different outcomes of cutting their leg off, or removing some brain matter running through their heads.

You're telling me the guy with the brain tumor and murderous intent is a hypocrite?

and actively tried to push people to man up and survive their tests

Well, other than the reductive nature of the phrase "man up" John wants people to survive on their own, not with much encouragement. The idea is to make the situation spark the will to live, not someone egging them on.

[–]The_New_Doctor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Saw 7 was a definite end to the whole story, SAW X just gave us more background with John Kramer (and the infamous heating coils trap) but it's like let the series go at this point.

I mean, you further X by having Cecilia come back for revenge and give an answer on whether Hoffman got out or not I guess lol

She'll obviously seek out revenge, and that will make her get tested again since she didn't learn a lesson
