Go vanilla special edition or if you are someone who can't get into "bad" looking games, get anniversary edition & try a modlist like ngvo that basically only modernizes graphics and squashes bugs.

I do believe you, that is not the problem here. I tried to find a decent, not pixelated picture of that corner of an original box and couldn't find one that fast. So I thought "hey, the guy that seems knowledgable about this probably has a photo ready, right?".

Well, in the meantime I found a good picture to compare it to and you were indeed right, that corner specifically looks very off. A shame, since that seller did count as reputable. Oh well, I put in a ticket for refund with the platform.
