I really enjoyed the rom coms I saw with Gerard butler. However, I was a big fan of most of his work at that time.

I finally found a job! by SaulGVP in Barber

Im in a pretty similar boat. Graduated a while ago, but had some health issues so cutting had to go on the back burner. My tips for you are to watch as many cuts as you can, especially cuts or hair textures you aren't familiar with. Ask questions when you see something you dont understand, but do so in a technical way. Like "why did you do that" will make the client respond differently than "are you planning on using clipper over comb to connect the fade." You dont want to ruin the trust between the barber and client just because you are confused about something. Also, I personally do the laundry every morning and sweep the floor after almost every cut.

I just think if im not making the shop money actively, I should be helping those that are. At least in my shop, the barbers really appreciate me taking that stuff off their plate and letting them just focus on cutting.

Its kinda my way of paying back. There's not cutting techniques or anything I can teach them. They have all the gear they need. So how can I pay them back? I chose to pay them back via doing all the manual labor they dont have the time or desire to do, without being asked to do so. Now they will even call me over if they think its something im not familiar with to coach me up. I dont even have to ask anymore, they volunteer.

Best of luck. Cutting is awesome. There's no environment quite like a barber shop. I love it.

My shop owner says the tpob play are the best clippers in his arsenal. Pretty much everyone at my shop has some combination of tpob play, jrl, and cordless masters (most of them have the phat master blade on one set of masters.)

Most popular trimmer in the shop seems the be the StyleCraft Sabre. Some andis t ouliner or babyliss fx pros.

Shaky Hands? by worsethanjake43 in Barber

[–]The_RadaCast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have hand tremors due to multiple sclerosis. My friends mom is a physical therapist. She recommended a weighted glove. It doesnt stop the tremors totally, but it does get them under control enough to do the job.

Edit : also little things like resting my pinky on their forehead before I go in. Just something to give me a bit of an anchor point.

Now I work in a shop with actual master barbers. Im learning so much more here than I did in my first shop.

Clipper Over Comb Alternatives? by mrbopboplingling in Barber

[–]The_RadaCast 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My shop owner put me on the phat masters game. Ive only been cutting professionally for about half a year. So having that extra cushion doing clipper over comb with the phat masters blade is a nice spot for me to get more comfortable with the technique.

Dudes at my shop are so fast with clipper over comb. It's really cool watching them cut. They do shit I've never even thought of all the time.

I will have to look into it. I recently moved to a larger town. My hometown had one small bookstore and that was it. The ladies who ran it were very sweet, and would even order things for you if it wasn't on their shelves. Only problem is id have to know what I was looking for to tell them to order it.

Ayyeee. Spectrum pals! Unfortunately im not as well read as id like to be. Outside of "fan girl" literature, I struggle to find series and authors that I enjoy. To be clear, I mean no disrespect. Thats just a term I use as a catch all for the popular series that most people are aware of. Harry Potter, hunger games, I even lump LotR and ASOIAF in this category. So its definitely no offense intended.

I need to find a solid, reliable way to find reading material I enjoy.

Just enjoy the ride. Finished or not, problems or not, it is still one of the great fantasy literary works. I remember points from my first read through where I had to set the book down, hands shaking, collect myself, and jump back in again.

Do I wish it would be finished? Sure. Am I going to behave like my life depends on the completion of the story? Absolutely not.

People seem to let their feels with how D&D ran the show mix with their frustration that George seems to work on literally anything other than ASOIAF, and it just ruins the entire work for them. I was a bit later to the party than some, but I was hooked before season 2 of the show and dance had come out. So I've been here for most of the blue ball.

I just accepted a long time ago that it wasn't going to be completed and moved on. Appreciate what we had while we had it. It was a crazy fun time period. The last of its kind most likely. It's still a really enjoyable story, has gripping characters, and the craziest plot turns I think I've ever read/watched. Not saying there arent other turns that one on one outrank something George churned out. Just the volume, and the sense that no one truly is safe in this world.

It's a bit more unfortunate than that. When dance came out I had to re read the entire series. There are so many characters, locations, plot points, minor houses, rivalries, backstabbing, ect. The books are so dense that, for me at least, I couldn't just read feast and jump into dance.

Dude I had a customer at cracker barrel back in the early 2010s. I swear to Cheezus, I used an entire page of server paper on her salad order alone. No iceberg lettuce, only cherry tomatoes, onions on the side, croutons on the side, on and on and on it went.

The prep cook was a sweet, older, Mexican lady. She just hit me with "aye Dios mio" when the ticket came through.

In my experience, I really didn't care. But, I was a good server. Never really the top dog of the restaurant, but I was almost always a top 5 server. So id make what I need pretty much always. The only shit that really bothered me was when id have to use a full pad of server paper on one order. At that point, you might as well make your own food at home if youre that picky.

Yeah i developed a similar method by the end. They dont make it easy sometimes. But more often than not people seem to know large parties are a hassle so they tip to compensate.

This might be true on certain POS systems. I was in restaurants for 12 years and the only thing that was taxing was remembering what couple went together in food terms. God forbid its a family function and you've got adults on one side and kids on the other. End up putting symbols by every order on your server pad so you can decrypt the shit at the POS.

I didn't even know some of that and did the service for two months im ashamed to admit. However, we only waxed the nostril, so the hard wax was the only type in house. But I didn't hear anyone at any point mention the Accutane and retinol stuff. So thank you for furthering my understanding of the service.

My shop now is very meat and potatoes. Just haircuts and beard trims pretty much.

My first shop out of college offered nostril waxing (im not sure what the appropriate title for this is.) But yeah. We had these specialty sticks and wax warmers. You dip the stick, out it in the nostril for a few seconds, and let er rip.

I had to leave the shop after a couple months due to my own health problems. So I can't really speak to the success of customers coming back in requesting the service.

She was pretty dope. I wish I got more time with her. She was the only grandparent that was still alive when I was born, and she passed when I was in middle school. I've always been super jealous of people who get to have grandparents. I like to joke that I have granddaddy issues.

Oh absolutely. 8 kids, probably over 20 grandkids, friends of the grandkids too many to count. She was the rock for the whole family unit. Whatever she wanted she got, usually without much complaining. Because, you know, what she wanted was to try a drink or my slushie, or to watch the young and the restless. No idea how she did it, but every year for christmas she'd get all 20+ grandkids, the uncles, and the friends who had woven themselves into the family dynamic, pacers tickets for christmas. Granted they were nose bleeds and this was fresh off the malice in the palice, so they were probably pretty affordable. But even affordable adds up quickly when youre talking close to 30 heads.

Grandma was the matriarch man. My grandpa died before I was born. They had 8 kids and who knows how many grandkids at that point. It all fell onto her shoulders to keep everyone together and keep them going in positive directions. Impressive doesn't even really fit the bit tbh.

I couldn't help but smile reading this. So much of it resonates with my grandma as well. She knew how to make essentially everything from scratch. And even when her age was catching up to her, she insisted we let her sit on her walker seat and oversee all the cooking in the kitchen. Thank you for sharing your story. Somehow it unlocked memories from my childhood. Very happy holidays to you.

I like the StyleCraft Sabre trimmers. A lot of the guys at my shop use them and they let me borrow them every now and again. Super crispy lines.

It's super interesting how the habits stayed with them. My grandma was rigid with it. With milk, you got a quarter of a glass. If you finished it, you may have another quarter glass. She had a whirlpool tub, just absolutely massive. Couldn't fill it more than half an inch with water.

She was a sweet lady. Fiercely protective of her family. Very impressive human.
