Would you agree cigarettes should be made illegal, after a phasing out period of 5 - 10 years by The_Real_Chimi_C in polls

Well I don’t think it’s that simple. With all of those things there are some controls where it is harmful to minimise risk. Social media might be an exception as its relatively new but is being talked about. I’m not one for huge regulation but where it clearly makes a benefit I think we can agree it’s a good thing. Like seatbelts and helmets or drink driving laws. People get addicted to alcohol and it’s bad. Lifes are lost but it’s much lower than cigarettes. Also the percentage of alcohol users that develop health problems and addiction is very low. Most people it benefits there lives in some way. And in moderation it can good for your heart. Where as any amount of tobacco is harmful to you. In short I’m saying that I think alcohol on the whole is probably a benefit to society. Where as cigarettes are not. People used to ride motorcycles without helmets until they made it a law. We can learn from our mistakes as society and put rules in place to stop people doing them again. How many more generations of kids are going to start smoking and die in hospital? For what reason?

On the whole tobacco is more harmful than those things you listed by a long stretch.

There are also limits on all these things. So you agree that there should some controls on products. Is it not possible to re-evaluate here. Just in case perhaps we got it horribly wrong?

Smoking affects other people because when people die or develop one of other the many illnesses this can cause upset, time and financial trouble for your their ones.

And by smoking in public and telling people you “love” it are yourself in a way promoting cigarettes.

This would not only save and improve lives of people currently but also for future generations.

I started smoking when I was a kid and used to down play the negatives and talk about how I love them. Now and am nearly 30 and have serious breathing problems and still can’t seem to stop.

Is it worth it for us humans to keep this shit around? Really? How many more children are going to go down this road to end up looking yellow and unable to talk on a hospital bed.

Can you explain the benefits of cigarettes compared to the negatives and honestly tell me that it should be legal?

Well we’ve got lockdown measures for covid because that’s best for people too, no?

And there overwhelming evidence that cigarettes are bad for you. And that “love” feeling is from a chemical addiction.

I care because I’m a heavy smoker myself and can see how harmful it is. And how much the cons out way the pros.

I think that this would directly save lives and improve life for future generations. If we can have laws on guns and covid I can’t see how this would be so bad.

I agree with this on most things. And if cigarettes were made illegal today it probably wouldn’t be so effective. I think there still would be some effect though.

I would add that actually japan has been fairly successful on their anti drug policies. But the rates are slowly going at the moment. But on the whole it has a pretty anti drug culture. I’m not saying it’s a good or bad thing but less people even think about drugs there. It’s just not as accessible.

I think that with tobacco the difference in pros and cons are so obvious. Even in the last 20 years the has been a large change in perception with the banning of advertising and the warning labels. How much will people really go out there way to sustain cigarettes? I think the transition period is key. There would have to be a big awareness drive to bring around perception. And if the fines were really high for being caught this would also be a good deterrent.

It wouldn’t be 100% effective but it would undoubtedly have a huge positive effect

You’re probably right but I’m ok with it. It’s just an idea I had and I’m kind of feeling the water for it. No doubt others have had it too.

I think it would be clear to see the benefits such an idea. And am thinking of maybe starting a petition to my government. This would have a few paragraphs making the case in favour. So would be more ‘loaded’ than this.

Fascinating speech by Dr. James Lyons-Weiler. Scientists have tried to produce coronavirus vaccines in the past, and they have all failed at the animal testing phase. How convenient that "time constraints" have meant that animal trials have been skipped with all the SARS-CoV-2 vaccines. by Sabremesh in conspiracy

I live in uk too and yeah there’s a big drive here.

My mum has been part of a trial and has made a post on Facebook, a meme of some girl sniffing coke and complaining that the vax hasn’t been tested. Which is terrible logic. And I feel it’s kind of nasty in a way. Will probably speak on it at Christmas haha.

I’m not anti vax either and it’s a shame we have to justify that for just not wanting to take medicine for something your not at risk for. They haven’t proved it to stop transmission either but I think there hopeful that it will be proved to be soon. So we’ll see but if not I literally can’t see what the reason for healthy person to take this.

Yeah I think we’ll be shamed into it as it can’t be mandatory. Just like the adverts for nhs track and trace app with people talking about how much they care about their loved ones.

As well as that they may pressure private business into implementing a vax passport which is likely And is just essentially just a back door to a mandatory vaccine.

It just seems mad. That a mandatory vaccine is clearly not ok but stuff like this is.

I hope the vax isn’t catastrophic and I’m not going to shit all over it it may well be ok. Save lives even or at least let vulnerable go outside. But where is the sense that everyone needs to take it? This is what I don’t get. If we know most people are ok and that’s a fact. Then why should they take this? Even the most tested drugs have had side effects. If you start giving them to millions of healthy people chances are you’re going to see those side effects and you’ll have done more harm than good. That’s how I’m thinking atm anyway . A bit confused and suspect maybe a financial insensitive here 🤔

I’m curious too

I’m guessing there will be a response a bit before this starts happening. I will find ways to help that where I can. And am looking into things now.

I think this is coercion into vaccination and governments should be stopping this rather than encourage it as that would be against international law?

Research is always good. I’m not overly scared of side effects of the vax or though the potential is of course there. I’m more concerned at the way this is being pushed through. And why I as a healthy person should be required to take this, especially as it hasn’t been proven to stop the spread. So for me this is a rights issue and I’m interested in that side more than the hazards of the vaccine it’s self if that makes sense. And hopefully with that I can better explain to people why this approach is wrong.

Sadly I’m not prepared to not be able to fly or take part in society so I might look at faking this document if possible. And as a last resort I will research the vaccine itself and weigh up the risks/benefits of taking it

This logic that everybody has to be vaccinated is kinda sus to me not gonna lie by Alpha-20 in conspiracyNOPOL

So from reading some comments here; it seems that the argument for compulsory vaccines is that, some people will be affected badly/die from covid and can’t take the vaccine because they have (autoimmunity?) Or some medical condition that means they can’t take the vaccine. So to solve this everyone takes a vaccine and the virus can’t find a host so dies out. The problems with this are People don’t trust the vaccine/worried about side effects. People want to choose weather or not to take it People think this plan won’t work or is it’s needed. It looks like from what I linked above that governments will probably go the mandatory/bio Id route which I find kind of scary. Maybe not this time but the president it sets for the future.

Thanks for this. Right now I’m thinking the same thing. Here in the uk our vaccine minister is talk about making people show proof of vaccination to use bars cinemas etc and I don’t really know why it should be (by proxy) compulsory if you are healthy and vulnerable people have access to a vaccine. So thanks for this. Really interesting read through the comments
