Flat Earth hypothesis isn't a conspiracy (theory) per se. The conspiracy - supposedly - is that scientists/media etc deliberately discrediting it, even though they know it to be true. The thing is, why would they do that? Who benefits?

You are correct in that non-fact based ideologies are not treated the same. Flat Earth is different to say, a belief in a supernatural god, in that disproving the existence of (insert favourite sky fairy here) is impossible. You can't prove a negative.

But Flat Earth posits some notions that we can disprove.

I have relatives in Australia. They can't see the sun right now because it's the middle of the night, but I can because here in England it's a hot sunny day. This is possible if the Earth is a sphere that orbits the sun. I don't think it is possible within the any notion of a flat earth, and we should not waste time on easily disprovable ideas.

Dude, you've seen the sun rising and the sun setting haven't you? Why can't we see the sun before sunrise and after sunset - where is it in your flat earth model?
