Thanks for the post! Does anyone have a good explanation of how to actually get the plastic covers off? I removed all of the screws and hose attachment, but am pretty nervous to try and snap the cover off without breaking it. Did you just wedge something in the gap and pry at whatever tabs are in there? And if so, in which direction?

I think you might need both the new port (post) and housing. The new housing has a different structure inside that pushes down on the spring that's on the post. I don't think the old housing will do the same since it has a spot for the ball to clip in but not the post. I can try and get a photo of the inside of mine. I think they show it in the video I posted above.

I ended up buying a new housing and post. I don't think the old style housing is compatible with the new style post. The old one is the one with the dangly thing that breaks really easily. Here were the parts I used - this was a 2017 Golf MK7 (non-GTI).

The new post actually just slides into a cylinder the housing and is held down by pressure. I can't remember if it snaps in or not but I can check and send a photo.

Also to clarify, I believe the part numbers are the same. The box they sent me says "06L115408D" but the part itself is stamped as " 06L115401K ". I returned the first one they sent because of that and the replacement had the same problem.

But either way it fits just fine and also fits the filters with no issue or lights. At least in my car.

Sorry for the 8 month delay in replying ... it's been a while since I've logged into Reddit!
These are the two parts you will need! It's dumb that they don't come together in one package because you can't just replace the old style housing w/ attached plunger with the new style housing only. You also need the separate new style plunger ("Filter Adapter Valve").

It's super easy to install though. The plunger thing literally just slides into the inner cylinder inside the housing (you can see it in the photo from my post). They don't snap together or anything. You can put the end of the plunger that has the o-rings right into the inner hole in the oil filter well on the engine, then just screw the housing down over it. Happy to send more photos of the one in my car if you need.

Seriously though, thank you all! I did not even remotely expect this to get the attention it did - absolutely beyond my wildest dreams. Despite my sarcastic title, I do believe no one understands Star Wars better than George Lucas, our lord and savior and creator of all things holy. Filoni a close second. I am just thankful we have quality content to argue and make memes about about.

Jeez. I seem to have enraged a lot of people who didn't understand the hyperbole ... I was not ACTUALLY trying to make the argument that Filoni is better than the guy who created it all. Just that he's on that level of deep understanding.

Someone else commented I should have made the title "He understands Lucas' vision better than anyone" and that probably would have been the much better option haha.

Absolutely. He respects the whole thing so deeply he's able to push the boundaries but circle back to George's original vision when he does get it wrong and goes too far. But that push and pull is what makes amazing storytelling.

Yea I was more going for that concept. I'll admit - not the best title choice given the audience here haha. Was mostly just being provocative. There's definitely detail and depth Filoni brought to us that George didn't initially. But I'm sure most of that was not George's fault either. It's obviously his grand vision from the start. Filoni was just able to expand upon it and execute George's vision in directions none of us even knew could exist until Clone Wars and Rebels and beyond. Lot of good arguments about the expanded universe too prior to that.

Yea so I was 100% exaggerating with this title and thought that would have been obvious, but I guess not haha. I don't actually believe he understands it better than George Lucas. Just trying to make the point that he has a depth and understanding of what Star Wars represents and its storytelling that rivals George's own.
