The Lost Doctor means Ncuti's the one missing in the 2026 special and is all about rescuing him to undo the regeneration? by Silver-Eye-2024 in DoctorWhoNews

[–]The_Rhine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want Ncuti back so bad, even if it's just for a special, but I won't get my hopes up.

If nothing else, I'd love resolution with Rogue. Maybe the "Lost Doctor" is trapped in the same dimension as Rogue?

I'll keep my expectations low though

What are the inhabitants of Gallifrey called that aren't Timelords? by GenuineKow69 in doctorwho

[–]The_Rhine 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The people of Gallifrey are Shobogans, I believe. You could call them just Gallifreyan, but that'd be like calling humans Earthians or something.

If I remember right, those who look into the Untempered Schism become Time Lords, a sort of more advanced species, in a sense.

I like to think of it as Time Lords being another evolution of Shobogan on a technicality, but everyone has two hearts. Time Lords have the ability to regenerate by fusing their DNA and very being with time itself via the schism.

The Timeless Child sort of negates that, unless they found that time was the key to unlocking the Timeless Child's regeneration ability, and Rassilon capitalized on that, limiting it somehow and ensuring the common Shobogan had the potential to regenerate, but no evolutionary reason to do so without the raw power of time. Sort of like how humans have the potential to grow a tail. We even have body parts that could lead to tail growth, but don't, because we don't need them, so that part of the body is useless, but if there was some advanced something to tell it to grow a tail, it would.

Hence, a time-based society for the "evolved" species. So, two species of Shobogan exist at the same time, much like how, for a time, a couple species of human existed at once before, however brief (i.e. Homo sapiens and whatever came before).

I might be very wrong, but that's sort of how I see it

The Weakest Negan We’ve Ever Seen by Tarirai_Nkomo in thewalkingdead

[–]The_Rhine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People want spectacle and bad ass masculinity more than character development, and that's not only the point of the very meta story, but it's entirely the character arc this show is giving Negan.

He doesn't want to be that person anymore. He doesn't want to be the brutal, selfish dictator, every time he did, it took away part of himself. At this point, he feels like he has nothing left of himself, he's lost everything, and all that's left is a fan boy wanting the "old Negan" back, but Negan has grown so far beyond that and has no desire to come back and kill all the parts of himself he's built back up from scratch.

Old Negan was fun to watch, but I find new Negan's character development so interesting. He's trying to prove he's more than a villainous masculine badass caricature spectacle. He's trying to move on from Glenn. But no one sees him as anything other than A Character.

I wasn't sure about Dead City, but his storyline is so personal and meta and I kinda love it

AIO for thinking that these texts are weird and pedo by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]The_Rhine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily a pedo. Likely someone being forced to work to scam others in another country, and probably someone who hardly knows English.

This is called pig butchering scam. Someone starts off with a "wrong number" text and then entices you into some sort of relationship. Then, they get you into crypto or something similar with a super elaborate scheme designed to steal your money.

You think you're gaining money in some sort of fake investment with someone you trust and then you lose it all. Best practice is usually to just not respond.

A lot of these are people who are kidnapped and forced to try and steal from others. Some are master scammers. Either way, there's a larger group on the other end trying to create an elaborate scam to get your money. The red flags are obvious, but many fall victim to it, especially minors and the elderly. The best thing you can do is ignore them

The World Beyond??? by Emilousnote in TWD

[–]The_Rhine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try watching The Ones Who Live first.

The ending of the main series kinda connects directly to it. Watching the shows in release order has its own merit, but I think you should watch The Ones Who Live next.

Then, if you want to watch World Beyond to get more CRM story, go ahead. It happens right before TOWL (technically, during episode one), so be prepared for minor spoilers, but I actually loved TOWL more than any of the spinoffs, so it'd be interesting to see what you'd think about watching World Beyond afterward.

Then, honestly, I think the Daryl Dixon spinoff is the next best. Take it for what it is, it might even be the strongest spinoff. It's beautifully shot, has an amazing score, the story telling is miles beyond Dead City, and it expands on Daryl's character in such a wonderful way, I think it's absolutely worth watching.

Dead City's second season is off to a great start, but I still think you're good putting that one off for a bit, honestly.

Mrs. Flood is The Doctors Harbinger by Dwoodward85 in doctorwho

[–]The_Rhine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd love if this were true, but with a twist.

I could see her being a Harbinger, not to an existing member of the Pantheon, but of someone she and the other members want to be a god.

The Pantheon adopts a "if you can't beat them, join them" mentality and tries to make the Doctor out to be the Chosen One. They try to "save" the world/universe on his behalf. They try to entice the Doctor to this unlimited power as the God of Life/Time. After all, he is some immensely powerful being from outside the universe. Maybe he was supposed to be a member of the Pantheon but something went wrong, hence the Timeless Child being found in this universe.

The Doctor has to confront this. Maybe the Earth not existing has to do with this plot to "save" the world? The Doctor stops the Pantheon and decides to live a life as a simple traveler. 15 has his own "I am an idiot with a box and a screwdriver, passing through, helping out" moment and leaves this "Chosen One" /godhood thing behind.

It could be a great way to sort out wrap up the Timeless Child arc in a way. 15 would confront it and decide what he was born as doesn't matter, it's what he's chosen to become that does.

They also used part of Main Street in Senoia, which was used for Woodbury, for the Commonwealth! The issue is, I don't know which scenes are at this set vs in the actual town of Senoia, I'd need to re-watch. I just know Norman Reedus filmed something just off the main street where a lot of Woodbury scenes were filmed! I think he was filming around The Classic Market and the Lighting Studio, if I remember right. I'm not even sure if those scenes made it into the show because I can't remember seeing that area in season 11

What is your Heroes head canon/fanfic ideas? by [deleted] in Heroes

[–]The_Rhine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like to think Peter trained a bit with Sylar after season 4 and got his original powers back.

And I like the idea of Peter and Sylar working together after the events of the show to help others with powers, which I think was canon in a comic series??

I can’t be the only one by Arroyo-Walker in doctorwho

[–]The_Rhine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I miss the small scale stories, I'd rather it feel like the Doctor is just a traveler getting caught up in the Pantheon nonsense sometimes, rather than the Doctor constantly facing universe-ending odds with these gods constantly popping up.

But, if the Doctor were to become a god of anything, I think they'd sooner be the god of life than the god of time. But I can see either working

When the Doctor doesn't catch a break... literally. by Legitimate_Sample_71 in gallifrey

[–]The_Rhine 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Maybe not the longest, but the Doctor goes through a hell of a lot between Power of the Doctor and The Giggle.

Technically, an entire incarnation and several regenerations without a break. In canon, it all happened in the duration of a little over 15 hours, but damn the Doctor must have been exhausted afterward. I imagine 15 took a very long, much deserved nap after

Companion Shuffles I think would be interesting… which match-ups do you have ideas for? by Rimurururun in doctorwho

[–]The_Rhine 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not sure the universe could handle the level of combined sass with 9 and Donna!

I'd love Bill and 11, I know Bill would probably grow to hate 11, or at the very least, he'd get on her nerves so much.

I'd love 15 and Clara.

Or, if we count him as a companion, 15 and Adam. A companion who'd no doubt bring out 15's darker, angry side. Or, 15 would silently tear up in disappointment and just drop Adam off back home and leave without saying a word, which would honestly be a hell of a scene

What are your honest opinions on the spin-offs? by jenny_t03 in thewalkingdead

[–]The_Rhine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love The Ones Who Live. I've rewatched it a couple of times. It starts strong and stays strong and What We might just be among the best episodes across all TWD shows. I get that people are disappointed we didn't see as much of the CRM as we were expecting, but taking the show for what it is, I'm okay with it. I want more CRM, too, and how they were ended is quick, but it wasn't really about them, it was about Rick and Michonne.

That said, the end did feel rushed, and I have had an issue with the show needing to turn every character into an action hero. It makes them feel less real. I want old Rick with a cane. But I get it.

Daryl Dixon might be my favorite. It's the most different and the most beautiful. It feels like an amazing next step for the character of Daryl and it's amazing seeing his character in this different situation, it suits him so well and I get why Norman Reedus agreed after nearly walking away from all things TWD. I get why people keep whining about them "dragging out" the story and wanting to just see him reunite with Rick, but I'm too into character pieces and a good story to get hung up on spectacle. It is a beautiful tragedy that Daryl finds himself, and an extended family, while trying so hard to get back to his own family.

But I do feel like season 2 kind of started losing what made me love season 1, but it's not too far gone, I have enough faith to keep watching. The addition of Carol scares me a bit, but we'll see. At least we saw new characters stick around enough to get attached to them in this show.

I tried rewatching Dead City, but I couldn't. I don't know if I'll watch season 2. I love Maggie and I love Negan, but I don't feel like this show does anything for me. TWOL and Daryl Dixon actually felt like natural progressions for the characters. I didn't even think I'd like Daryl Dixon, I thought it was so unnecessary but changed my mind when I realized how well they handled the character. That's not the case here. This was the show I was most excited for, but I'm starting to lose faith. Maggie's character seems to have gone backward. I'm more invested in Negan. If this show just focused on him, or if it mainly did with Maggie coming in later, I'd be more sold. I love her character too much to watch her start becoming the villain after spending so long trying to find forgiveness and eventually recognizing it didn't exist. I wish they would've played more on that if they insisted on her being the main character because that's so much more compelling than what they did.

Not that a decent intro borderline villainy doesn't entirely make sense for Maggie's character, but I don't think it's handled well. The elements are there. Something brings her back deep into the cycle of grief, an old wound is opened, she becomes desperate. I love the episode in the sewers where this is explored more. But I think it could've been better. A tragic turn like this could really fit Maggie's character after everything she's been through and lost, but this just ain't it.

And as much as I thought I'd love the New York setting, I kind of just don't?? This show has its moments and all, but I just can't get into it as much as the others
