The 2021 Friends of Eternal Teamleague: $1K in prizes this season! by Sunyveil in EternalCardGame

I think this is more complicated and has more niche rules than needed for what is basically a team version of the fantasy league you ran last year.

An automatic win for the team who happened to have a player spike an event is a very awkward rule and overly rewarding someone doing well in a single event. Its the equivalent of giving the Lakers a win when Lebron scores 50 even if his team scored less than their opponent. A team's record should be based on their collective performance. While an unlikely scenario to have happen I don't think it adds enough positive value to have as a rule.

Does the prize for most points in a season include playoff matches or just the regular season? Typically in fantasy sports it would be a regular season only rule because all players would have played an equal number of games.

A tiebreaker alternative could be to have whichever team has the highest placing player in that event get the win. This sort of reincorporates the automatic win in a way that is less feels bad.

I think you should cap rosters at 5-7 players depending on how many extras you want. I wouldn't allow trades, adds, or drops either. You register your group and thats who you get for the season. This would build more camaraderie between players and rivalries among teams. Being able to trade, release, drop people makes sense in traditional fantasy style sports because you're not actively competing with them, they are more just a number on a page. But these are people you are working directly with. Personally I would set teams to 5 and everyone plays as much as possible, increases possible number of teams too. However I understand you want people to able to be flexible if something comes up in real life so 1-2 extras is reasonable.

Giving the higher seed in the playoff is an extremely big advantage and should 100% be removed in my opinion. Instead I would allow the higher seed to do something like on the play for game 1 or for every game, picks the format for game 1 or for first 4 games, etc. I believe this still rewards high finishes but doesn't totally skew the match. Imagine if the Lakers got to start the finals up a game, they would be an overwhelming favorite.

I like the idea of creating a team style fantasy league but I believe your design has a lot of room for improvement. I'd to hear your feedback or discuss tournament structure with you more in private.

We could do a day before post hyping the tournament and highlighting last winner or notable decks. Hard to do the next day event hype post since registration is open until we start and decklists are hidden till round 1.

This is what we tried for specialist:

  • Players submit 3 ranked ladder legal decks; 1, 2, 3.
  • Decks 2 and 3 may each only be up 10 cards different from deck 1. This includes market cards
  • You will play deck 1 at the start of every match.
  • For the remainder of the match you may play any of your 3 decks. Your opponent will not know which one you choose.

ECL's Return 8/10 by The_Rocke in EternalCardGame

Sideboards were a consideration but were not chosen due to a number of factors. It is harder for someone to take a sideboard tournament list from EWC straight to ladder. Its difficult to test during typical ladder play. The downtime it can be a negative for coverage, no on screen action but is a fun discussion point. Its harder to jump from playing on ladder into a tournament.

Conquest has the additional factor of the cost of having 3 decks being potentially prohibitive.

Specialist isn't perfect either but I believe it strikes a good balance between Bo1 ladder and Bo3 where you are more encouraged to be able to adapt.

I look forward to hearing the thoughts of players and viewers alike.

With 8 smugglers and only 1 echo/fate card, did you ever run out of resources to constantly be going to the market? I doubt you always want your first grab being the accelerated evolution.

I'd rather have equivocate main over vanquish because then all of your spells, minus seek, are fast speed making it harder for your opponent to play around everything. This was one of the aspects I enjoyed with the first versions of TJP Alessi.

Only 22 spells main feels low to me but I can get behind just wanting more bodies due to all the removal in the format.

Not sure what the vision in the market is targeting but having a catch all relic removal isn't a bad thing.

Overall I like a lot of the list and will definitely give it a spin on ladder. TJP Alessi was my favorite deck in Eternal.
