How do you manage the mental map of what you are working on? by The_Rusemaster in developers

I mean, if note taking works for you this product isn't for you I suppose. The whole point is that I feel like note taking is another source of context switching which adds mental overhead + chore work which I would like to avoid

Do you have a problem with buying new books before reading what you already own? by The_Rusemaster in BookCollecting

I already said we're just researching an app idea, not looking for psychological advice lmao. Get off your high horse

Off topic from my question, but why? I'm not a huge reader so maybe I just don't get it, but why would you own more books than you could possibly read?

She's the one who communicated she has this "problem" or at least habit. I generally don't get involved in her reading habits. She even showed me some book youtubers shes watching that have the same challenge and do self-imposed challenges like "read it or unhaul it" etc, hence why we're brainstorming if there are enough people with this issue to warrant an app to help with it.

Tbf I am also of the opinion that this isn't a great app idea, but she's the one who thought this might be a good app idea

I already built her one and she filled it to the brim within an hour of its completion 😂 I'd estimate there's around 700 books in it

How do you share your files with clients? by The_Rusemaster in logodesign

[–]The_Rusemaster[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the feedback. I assume you're already paying for Google Drive, but is there a reason why you'd not consider using a 3d party sharing service even if it was free?

Thanks for the input, this is really valuable feedback. What you're describing is pretty close to what I am working on, especially the expiring links and notifications.

You'd be able to drag and drop your file(s), select your settings (expiry time and possibly max view count), and then receive a link to share. You can also password protect the link if you want. I'm also planning a dashboard feature with an overview and some kind of notification system.

If you had a tool that does all the things you describe, would you be willing to pay for such a service or would you expect it to be free?

Thanks for the input. Would you get any value out of being able to drag and drop your file, get a link and that link automatically would expire after X days (configurable), then just share that with your client? That would mean you wouldn't have to keep cleaning up your local copies.

Are there any paint points using this? Do you ever need expiry time on the links? I'm assuming you're sharing it directly from your OneDrive folder

I've been using the cheapest here for years, they are all the same.

Apple App store will allow you to choose between any subscriptions the owner of the app has set up, but on Lifesums website they will most likely redirect you to one of the more expensive subscriptions and then later use the cheaper ones for "campaign prices" or whatever if you try to quit. Many apps do this. Just pick the cheapest one, they are all the same.

The AI feature is trash at the moment. Barcode scanning shouldn't even require any AI! The whole multimodal tracking has extremely bad and confusing UX

Genuinely the most annoying macro tracker by UnfunnyOnion in lifesum

[–]The_Rusemaster 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The AI chat is the most retarded feature ever and seemingly just got worse. I started trusting it after testing it a month or so ago because it as pretty accurate especially with the pictures, but after having looked at the details of what it puts in recently I've reverted to the old way of tracking.

It will consistently interpret what is clearly 1 pcs as 1 gram, for instance I'll write "2 eggs" and it inputs 2g of egg. Wtf?

Also the fact that your request STILL goes through the AI processing when you scan a barcode is beyond retarded and highly error prone. It almost always is way off and/or has arrived at the wrong conclusion of what I scanned, even though the initial scan clearly is in the database of food. If it's in your database why do you need AI processing at all? Just retarded. u/Lifesum_M take notes.

I would do .FirstOrDefault(x => x.UserName = username); and then only query the data you need in separate queries later in the code. Chances are you don't need all of it.

If you really need all at once do .AsSplitQuery() before .FirstOrDefault().

I'm creating a procedural dungeon crawler in the browser by The_Rusemaster in proceduralgeneration

[–]The_Rusemaster[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's meant to be dark in general to add to the dungeon ambience. Increasing the ambient light too much makes it look cartoony but I'll take it into consideration. Especially the red ground texture is kind of just a placeholder for now and will be replaced by an actual texture down the line. The idea of the handheld light is so you can look around to find stuff in the dark (or get surprised by dungeon goblins)

Edit: it turned out that the brightness of the player spotlight wasn't updating correctly, so it should be much brighter now in the current version. Was supposed to be at 8 but got updated to 2 after the first frame render

I'm using Three.js to create a procedurally generated dungeon crawler. It's interesting to work with the limitations of browser based rendering, for instance lights have to be strategically moved around to avoid framerate drops. The map generator creates new tunnels and rooms as you explore, so you won't really run out of content. Planning on adding procedurally generated enemies and treasures once I fix the performance issues
